Makes you wonder what the hell is going on in training, how many players have been injured now. Negligence? These are all silly comments. As last season we hardly had any major injuries. Players need to be lucky, if they are going to train and play with full commitment then you would expect some injuries along the way!

Well at least we know one team will be well up for it tomorrow. Or too pumped up and get a man sent off or give away an early penalty. Sir Alex was a master of the mind games.

Like most of the whingers that turned up last Saturday, it seems to have continued on here in predicting our fortunes for this weekend. Yes of course it’ll be a good result to get a point, why would anyone expect us to go there and get all 3 normally. Joey last year predicted we should get promoted out of the terrible league that is league 2. This year he’s been very clear we need to survive. So why don’t we all get real and except we are going to be scrapping for our lives this season in a tough league 1. And get behind the boys, rather than moan about ever player we have when they make a bad pass or moan about a transfer window.

I love supporting my football club and maybe my tolerance levels are becoming less, but for as bad as we were today I really can’t stand to turn up and be surrounded by fans who moan and groan at every mislayed pass from as early as the 3rd minute. One nause behind me kept saying ‘what was that!’ And ‘that was another £&@£ ball’ even when it turned out to be a good ball. Do these fans not realise that we really aren’t helping out the players. There has and will always be a few that always watch the game and love moaning at every bad pass, I’ve never ever know as many and as noisy as it was today!!
We’ll beat Exeter, let’s get down there, create some positive noise (as we did against Walsall last season) and bring home 3 points UTG

It’s amazing how delusional we all become and so quickly. We are at best a club needing to secure league 1 status and then build over next year or two and then have a push. This is where we’re at, let’s just all try and enjoy it. The team always fight and have a go, what more can we ask at this stage. Tough game every week, it’s a strong league. Hopeful if nothing g else for 3 points today

Sadly because he’s ‘Joey Barton’ no one in positions of power will take him seriously and try to do something about it. Got to love his passion…. Let’s hope the lads take that into tomorrow’s game and we humiliate Morecambe

I would drop Evans - Needs a damn fine kick up the arse - He is way better than currently showing. One moment of quality this season the free kick at Burton. The rest has been woeful and the penalty last night was embarrassing. I don't think Coutts has been much better - gives the ball away far too easily in dangerous positions ... Loft deserves a start ahead of Marquis who has been a real disappointment so far although we are not playing to his strengths. It's no wonder we are struggling ... we only have a few consistent decent performers at the moment - Collins / Belshaw / Finley - the rest are either still growing into the season or actually haven't realised the season has started yet. Coutts isn’t 100% match fit yet, can tell that. When he is, he always buys himself that half yard on the ball. Was the same last year took him a good 10 games to get sharpe

I watched most of the game and he was pretty good, just kept things simple. I did notice how deep he was coming to get the ball, and didnt seem to want to take players on like he did for us. Still think he is best out wide left getting chalk on his boots though. Maybe wrong, don’t feel he’s quick enough to lay wide at prem level. Obviously different tonight but you need pace to play wide in attack. Elliot doesn’t posses pace so maybe long term position is an 8 / 10

Your Mr Barton doesn't need a microphone. Your bloke that tackled Thompson was given a yellow card therefore the ref deemed it a foul. I hope he's feeling bad about it. Looks like Thompson could be out for months. Stats say you had 2 shots on target and one of those was a gift from our donkey Raggett so thats why you got beaten not dodgy decisions by the ref. Yeah silly arguing that Whelan has intended to break someone’s leg. Don’t believe for one second, any professional footballer would ever have that intent. As posted, contact sport and sadly these things happen. Wish him a speedy recovery but not having that nonsense.

Interesting listening to Danny Cowley… He thought his players were fitter- kept going to the end and that was one of the decisive factors in the game. Not heard that said very often that the opposition were fitter than our boys. That said we have a number ‘ in the process’ of getting match fit so hopefully better times ahead. Absolute none sense that they were the fitter team, but he would say this as his team won!! On another note we almost went toe to toe with Pompey in their back garden and without the extra 5 players to add depth to the squad. They had depth to their squad as shown by their substitutions. Encouraging signs… not sure when I’ve last said I’ve enjoyed watching rovers when we’ve lost. More cutting edge needed in the final third please

Let’s also remaining grounded to the fact that Barnsley were also in the champ playoffs only 2 season ago.
On wards and up wards. These players under Barton have shown in the past they often bounce back from adversity. 3 points Saturday!

It seems like I am in the minority based on constant moans around the Thatchers End but I love seeing us play it short and try different corner/free kick routines. Two of our 6 goals this season have come from these, our last corner goal last season at Port Vale was a short corner and more often than not when we change that angle or get a couple of extra players involved we look more dangerous than just lumping the ball into the box. So despite the moans of "get it into the box" (one guy who stands behind me says this almost as much as "just run with it" and "play it down the middle") I'd like to see us mix it up a lot more. Keep it up gas and stick with the short set play routines!!! Couldn’t agree more, great post! Those 3 man corner routines initially baffled me, but we have scored a few and seem to cause opposition defenders problems with them. No better feeling than 3 points. Loving life! UTG

The lad had a good debut today, well done to him. I would add though that the defence wasnt really tested much today and much tougher games will come. Yes I think even Trev Clarke would have shone today I think the point about Clarke is, he doesn’t have the ability to want the ball off the keeper and to play the ball out hence why he’s not got a future here, regardless of what other qualities Clarke may posses. Against 10 men you need players who want the ball all the time and can keep possession. Barton doesn’t feel Clarke can offer this.

If Barnsley get in what they perceive to be better than Luke then of course there will be a deal to be done. Not done yet.

Don't forget Whelan could start. If we throw Saunders on from the start then we lose any kind of impact sub we might need to make later on. Saunders has to play, his pace is a constant threat and looks really sharpe after a decent preseason. Could be his year! As any league 1 lump of a cb will tell you, they’d love to see him on the bench.

If charlton want a full back that is constantly caught out of position, and therefore has to make lots of last ditch slide tackles. This isn’t signs of a good defender, and even after a slide tackle always gingerly returns to his feet. It is bizarre, but sure the reasons are massively valid. Joey knows what it take to be a top professional player and Clarke clearly is falling way short. If that's the case then why did he offer him a new 2 year contract, with I recall a further 1 year extension in the summer, it's not like JB couldn't see his weaknesses last season. This is the head scratching bit. Don’t fear though with the rhino at left back and Harvey Saunders flying down the right wing.

Somebody mentioned clarke and charlton beginning of the week. Wonder if there has been movement on there and barton is trying to force a fee for him. Weird isn't it. If it does materialise will look even more strange given he'd be good enough for Charlton but seemingly not good enough for us! If charlton want a full back that is constantly caught out of position, and therefore has to make lots of last ditch slide tackles. This isn’t signs of a good defender, and even after a slide tackle always gingerly returns to his feet. It is bizarre, but sure the reasons are massively valid. If Man Utd fans have to put up with this then I’m sure we can. Connor wickham and Matt up front for FGR are a handful Wickham's got a shocking scoring record for a centre forward, averaging around 2 goals a season. Yep agreed, didn’t say they’d score goals, just will bully defenders as we saw Matt do against us on Saturday .
