A bit classless of Barton to publicly hang players out to dry. Giving the JB fan club the excuse to jump on the bandwagon and slaughter Westbrooke. Ok not a good performance but no one in the starting XI played well. Not slaughtering any of them though, eh? It’s not hanging them out to dry. Listen to the interview again, he said, ‘if you’d asked me at the END of LAST season if they’d both be in the starting 11….’ Well he’s right. Our best team that won us promotion wouldn’t have had Clarke or Westwood in the starting 11. As for Westwood, I’m not sure fans are saying he’s the sole cause but after having plenty of chances in a rovers shirt and still not put in a shift then it leaves a bitter taste. And I expect comments which are always tongue in cheek about players ‘stealing’ a living and should be arrested, well why not use humour to deflect the disappointment of an opening day defeat. Westbrook just shouldn’t be in the building come end the window and I’m sure he won’t be.

It's odd we've made so many defensive changes, of today's back 4 only Connolly played regularly in the same position last season. Perhaps it's no surprise they defended as if they'd only met up at 3pm. We need someone to lead the back 4 and that's clearly not going to be Hoole this season. Bought back 4 played well. Midfield in front of them all over the place shape wise today. And Westbrook is just a body and someone pretending to be a professional footballer

Can’t wait to hear good news about him coming back on loan. Does anyone know what’s happened with his suspected heart condition?

Agreed. I think this is the first season where our stadium capacity is going to hold us back. 😢 Don’t think it will hold us back… a pack to the rafters mem full of supporters who are genuinely desperate to be there will create atmospheres that will be like having a 12th man. Exactly what Nottingham Forest did this season. Literally can not wait to get this season started

Nice story and picture about Elliot Anderson back training with Newcastles first team squad this week. Geordie Boot boys is the source if someone can put the link up. May be involved on the weekend then as a reward.

Said it before, ZW will never play in a Barton side as he just doesn’t tackle. All the great successful teams have talented players but they are talented and don’t mind putting a foot or head in where it hurts when needed. Luxury players don’t / can’t exist at clubs and teams like rovers.

Assuming no one comes and takes him off our hands, Joey will need to give him one last chance to save his career. Get fit. Wow me in pre-season and give it one last go. If he does, fair play. If (as expected) he doesnt then loan him for a big loss of wages back to League2 (or National league) and watch him disappear. Absolutely zero chance… he shirks every tackle so will be bombed out this summer in some capacity surely.

I think Evans may sign a new deal but may well have a clause which allows him to speak to any clubs that show interest. Thomas im not bothered about he has been disappointing for me Personally think Thomas has been excellent these last month or two with limited opportunity. Has provided more direct running and threat than Nicho has in a while. Would love him here. Would offer him a year, but needs to be coached how to strike a ball when on the move as he doesn’t really seem to strike the ball true.

Again a player probably being linked with champ clubs, but I reckon Ebou Adams of Forest Green would be a great signing. Tempted to play in front of a full mem might sway it.

It was well taken but in a one on one the striker is favourite and should score. Very pleased he’s off the mark because he hasn’t looked good since signing. Hopefully he’ll kick on now. I’d still start with Collins Saturday though. Marcus Rashford just completely messed up a similar chance at Anfield! I'd start Collins v FGR as it's his previous club, however, if he doesn't score again and Lofty comes on and plays well again then how long can we keep picking a non scoring striker? Football is all about opinions, but I have to say, can not drop Collins, offers so much more than goals. Starts the press and does not stop running. Agreed, he hasn’t been at his best with the ball the last 4/5 matches but still worthy of his shirt.

Pretty possession football without a consistent goal scorer is not a one season problem. We went from ugly, low possession football with JCH regularly scoring to what we still have now. Three managers have so far failed to deliver a consistent striker. I would be intrested to see how we got on had pitman still been here. He managed to score goals without us creating much. We now regularly get into decent positions, but with no one central to get on to things. I really like collins, but he is not a centre forward. After reading this and reacting initially, I sort of agree. However, due to the way we play with all 11 mobile players working and chasing and being athletic/ mobile players, he may only really have still had about 10-15 mins at the end of games similar to Leon. And would argue Leon is just a good a finisher and still slightly more mobile than pitman. So still think for both parties a sensible decision.

Never score any goals from our numerous corners. Not being clinical enough with all the pocession is likely why we will most probably scrape a playoff place! Would take this now, and fancy us against anyone over 2 games!

Thanks. Talking about not copying clubs.. I know a few clubs are doing this Nottingham Forest for one… if we win, Depeche Mode Just can’t get enough is a banger… Just saying

Too reminiscent of Colchester and Salford for my liking. But we won and played some decent stuff for most of the game. Flip knows what happened in the last few minutes. No leadership on the pitch perhaps? Having 5 attack minded players leaving only Coutts to hold the shape together. Impossible. But hey, 3 points are all that matters and bar a crazy last 10 minutes a very solid, gritty and controlled game. UTG

I don't think some people still understand what Covid does to you. I am triple jabbed and tested positive on Christmas morning and it has hit me for six. It affects people in different ways and your breathing suffers as I have found out. I am also suffering from lack of energy and have no appetite so imagine being a professional athlete/footballer,this stops you doing your every day routine and it will take time to build back up. If it has spread in the camp it can take weeks for people to fully recover and to call the game off is the only sensible decision the club can make. Great post! Exactly this. Un-vaccinated is a different debate.

Not sure how likely, but go and offer a deal for Jonny Kenny at Sligo Rovers in Ireland. Might cost a few quid as he's under contract, but an outstanding prospect. Failing that, approach the lad Colm Whelan at UCD with an offer where he could finish his City Planning and Environmental Policy degree over here, whilst still playing for us at the same time. Think if we were to stand any chance of signing Whelan then that type of arrangement would have to be agreed. Get in ahead of the pack when there could be a clamour to sign him next summer. Alternatively, Mark Doyle at Drogheda is out of contract this month and is a versatile forward that could do a good job for us in a fluid front 3. Think Glenn Whelan could help persuade one of them?

This also raises the question as to what fans want from the club. 1. Surviving in leagues one or two. 2. Losing a fortune and playing regularly in the Championship 3. Struggling in the Championship and losing shed loads of money 4. As above but in the Premier league 5. Playing comfortably in Premier league but not feeling like the Gas are our club anymore. Growing up I always dreamed we'd join the big boys, but now I'm not so sure, football isn't what it used to be and I don't want the Gas to sell the soul of the club. This is a great post… I sadly don’t know the answer

Moor, Lost and Grounded and Good Chemistry all reasonably close too. Although some of their sites could be at risk of being developed I guess. I would HAPPILY do a brewery pub crawl through St Phillips before every home game! Hoping the club take advantage of having such brilliant brewers on the doorstep. Maybe even a Gas beer/ale..... [b Like Spurs have with Beaver town
