Thank you Steve for your very in depth report. These reports are important for the people who cannot go to away games. UTG

Be careful what you state, I put something on about him before putting cash into the club and got slammed, slated and made to feel like an outsider on thus forum. Am I right though in thinking that two clubs in the Football League cannot be owned/bankrolled by the same person or company? This due to it representing a conflict of interest. Yes you are correct but who's to say that a monies put in are done behind closed doors between two businessmen. I do hope anything like this doesn't happen but you never know with the AQ's

We need to move on players on good money, otherwise it’s not worth doing. The problem is that it’s harder to move these players on, for obvious reasons, especially if they are underachieving. In an ideal world we lose: Upson - not an awful player but we have enough options in midfield Payne - rightly or wrongly he is out of favour with the fans and will take a lot for him to turn it round Nicholls - can’t fault his effort but we need better and we need strikers who have the confidence to get into goalscoring areas Reilly - clearly not rated as good enough at present by DC so no point in keeping him Smith - just clearly doesn’t seem good enough and must also be on a fair wedge given that he wasn’t signed as a number 2. I agree with all of them bar Reilly, keep him but we will need to get the higher earners of the wage bill, I would have thought Bennett is on a fair wedge so he can go.

The problem lies in the fact that DC keeps changing it and doesn't play a settled side. To go forward he must changes this not change it!

If what LB & DC said is correct in their interviews at the end of last season then the club made no attempts whatsoever to offer him a new contract. I sense you're trying to rewrite history by saying he was worth £500K, when in truth he was worth zero in the transfer market. Walsall have seen both Etheridge and Oztumer leave on frees in recent seasons but are still doing OK. Let's be honest we don't need a 20 goals a season super striker all we needed were strikers capable of scoring 10 goals each a season, not just 1 or 2 by January if if we're lucky. If you look at the strikers we've signed since DC took over only Taylor has got into double figures regularly, Bodin only joined as he was mates with Harrison, and Harrison was already at the club.I don't think the present recruitment set up at the club as a clue how to sign a decent striker. The list of failures is endless White, Gaffney, Telford, Mensah, Nichols, Reilly, Jakubiak, Payne. Let's be honest, of the players that you have mentioned, only Nichols and gaffney have had a good run in the side and gaffer's not really, that's why he left. Reilly and Jakubiak need to have a run in the side, Reilly starting Saturday and keep playing him, he can score goals, look on YouTube, it might've have been in Scotland but he does know where the goals is. Nichols didn't score a one on one with the keeper on his debut, Reilly did.

Stockley from Exeter would be a good addition for striker, Padraig Amond from Newport for a goal scoring winger. Get rid of Payne, worst striker to play in the quarters, give Deon Moore a chance, he couldn't do any worse than Payne. Exeter will want anything from £700k to £1 million for Stockley. Maybe we could pay cash and swap for Nichols

I give you Jamie White, Zebrowski, Alex Wall, Goldberg and Adam Virgo! I'll give you Adam Virgo but at least the others put effort in, that cannot be said for Payne, anyways Zebrowski scored a few and looked much better than Payne. UTG

2 forwards 2 wingers, a tall centre back & sort the keeper out!!! Without filling those positions were down.... DC seems to have lost faith with Sam matthews but given games he could be an option on the wing...Deon Moore could be given an early opportunity too....Michael kelly needs to go back in at LB!!!! Joe Martin offers very little..... as for players going...... ?? Who knows??? Could be any 4/5/or 6 from at least a list of 10 that aren’t good enough or have nowhere near enough quality..... ive not Been a martin fan, but yesterday in the first half, he put in 4/5 very good crosses, but not once, did we get anywhere near them That is very true, I thought he had a good game first half, it was pleasing to see the balls coming into their box but as you said no one on the end of them.

I've watched Rovers since 1978. It was 12 years before I witnessed a promotion and a further 17 before it happened again. 29 years, two promotions. There were three relegations in that time. Hardly spectacular. Then there was Darrell. This man has given us two promotions in two years. He followed that with our highest finishes in the best part of 20 years. Make no mistake, his achievement has been huge. But that is just the statistical part of the story. What Darrell Clarke has also done is almost single handedly been responsible for rescuing our club from a life outside of the football league. He has achieved everything he has from the lowest starting point in our entire history, with a club that quite frankly was facing oblivion after years of neglect in the boardroom and a succession of poor managerial appointments. It is no exaggeration to say that Torquay's fate could very easily have been ours, were it not for Darrell Clarke. Darrell Clarke also gave us our club back. Not Nick Higgs, with his doomed efforts to secure a new ground. Not Wael Al-Qadi, with his equally well meaning and equally baseless ambitions. Darreĺl Clarke. Having watched Rovers for most of my life, like most people I don't expect to see great, high quality players. I don't expect to see us play in the Premier League. I'd love both to happen, but I don't expect it. What I do expect though is a committed bunch of players who bust a gut for the badge and never know when they are beaten. We've had that over the last four years. Darrell Clarke gave us that and for me, that is what we meant when we sang "We've got our Rovers back". No-one, not even his biggest fans (who thankfully, still appear to be in the majority), no-one will say that this season is going well. It's been a shocker so far. Most of the summer signings haven't come off yet, although his record over the years says to me that the charge that his recruitment has always been poor is just a myth. The fact that they've not been successful this time is no surprise though. Replacing (relatively) expensive players with cheaper ones is likely eventually to result in a downturn in quality. Worryingly though, there seem to be one or two who maybe don't meet that criteria of busting a gut and not giving up and if that is the case it may be that swift and decisive action is needed in these cases. The point though is that Darrell Clarke deserves the chance to put this right. He has earned that chance. To do this though, he needs support from two places. First, he needs it from above. Not just a wooly vote of confidence. Not some platitudes about confidentiality clauses. Not hiding away when the going gets tough. Not failing to give any meaningful communication in a year. Not appointing a CEO who does what apart from take a player's wage. And most definitely not issuing pithy tweets about collective responsibility. What this club...that's Darrell Clarke, the staff, the fans, all of us...what we need now is proper leadership. Outlining the ambitions for the club. Outlining (broadly) how that will happen. Outlining what has happened and what will happen to the training ground. There's so much more, but this post is long enough already and I'm starting to enter rant territory! He also needs that support from us, the supporters. We should be able to cope with that as it's kind of in the job description. Darrell Clarke is the club's biggest asset. His stock has fallen since the Leeds approach but he remains one of the best managers in the lower leagues, with huge potential. He has earned our support. He showed us loyalty when we needed him to. Let's show him the loyalty that he now needs from us. Bloody well said. UTG

As much as I love Darrell Clarke and the memories he has given us, I do start to question his methods and tactics. I mean, we concede two goals in quick succession, we desperately need a goal or someone that can create one and what does he do?? Bring on Lockyer! 1. Lockyer played an international game on Tuesday night and flew back yesterday morning, What’s the point of Broadbent or Menayese if they’re not on the bench in these situations. 2. He brought Lockyer on for Kelly. Lockyer = CB, Kelly = LB. we had Holmes-Dennis on the bench he’s a Left Back but doesn’t get a look in, completely baffling 3. Matthews and Lines remained on the bench while Lockyer and Leadbitter came on, against a conference side at home I just don’t understand If someone has valid reason behind these insanse decisions then please enlighten me I want to know I haven’t seen much about Lockyer’s substitution on other threads which I’m surprised about, apologies if already been said. 1. Broadbent is injured. Menayese was on the bench. 2. Holmes-Dennis wasn't on the bench in the end, think he was replaced by Menayese - not sure if something happened to him in the warm-up. Agree that the use of Lockyer was baffling to say the least! Not sure about Broadbent being injured but has anyone heard of a falling out between DC and Broadbent?

Seriously? Didn’t Rovers turn him down a few seasons back? Seriously, Steve Cotterill, you've got to be kidding, never ever do we want that Fool at our beloved club. He was there on Saturday too, box 2.

Saw a rumour on twitter that Payne and Smith both told the fans to f**k off after the game. May be BS but wouldn’t be surpised. Can anyone confirm this? [br To be honest, Payne just stood staring at the north terrace, not sure if he said anything but you could tell he's got a serious edge to him.

*ing embarrassing. Bet people still clapped the team off. When will people stop accepting mediocrity. No, we had the loudest 'What a load of rubbish' and 'You're not fit to wear the shirt' I've ever heard. I have heard louder, the Graydon and Atkins years were worse and let's not forget buckle.

Great, a defeatist negative manager putting his excuses in already. Thanks Darrell. [br You thank him for that, I’ll thank him for rescuing this poor excuse of a football club. I will also forgive him if we go down and hope he gets the chance to get us back up again if that happens. Each to their own. Well said that man 👍
