We have competed way better today and been undone by a CHEAT … f**k Portsmouth …. eternal L1 Big Boys! Not even a big boy anymore. I reckon 5 bigger clubs in League 1 than them this year. First thing I think of about Pompey is that Fat, stinky, bellend in a Waistcoat and silly hat. F*ck em!

Officials are getting worse.
It's not just lower league ones either anymore, the supposedly 'Elite' Premier League refs are a joke as well. I.e Anthony Taylor/Mike Dean last weekend.
I am sure Joey will be mentioning Mike Jones later, hasn't done that for a while🙂

Think it could be another Barnsley I fear. Pompey 2-0 Gas. Until we get some more quality at the back and some additional options on the bench I don't think we'll be able to compete with he best teams in this division. I haven't seen much of Gibson, but I doubt he's come here to just sit on the bench. He's the replacement for Connor Taylor I'd imagine. We need more depth of course, but I think Joey will see Hoole, Gibson, Connolly and Gordon as his 1st choice Defenders. Replacing Elliot Anderson like for like is going to be near on impossible, but 2 attacking wide players, another creative midfielder and a striker are the positions we desperately need filling. Oxford on paper at least are one of the best sides in the Division, we've already beaten them. Hopefully Barnsley was just one of those days, better to get those games out of your system early. I think we'll bounce back with a win today

The last time we lost back to back games was almost a year ago, back in September away at Hartlepool and home to Leyton Orient.
We did lose back to back league games away at Forest Green and home to Port Vale in December but there was the FA Cup game v Sutton sandwiched in the middle so technically not back to back defeats 🙂
We tend to bounce back from defeats these days, lets hope we keep that record going.
I sense a smash & grab 1-0 away win, with Marquis getting it.

So do the supporters who want to sit in any seat regardless at away games do the same at home games? Or is that different! It’s possible to buy tickets in groups so the excuse of my mate is over there is limp. Just sit in your own numbered seat when the allocation is 95% filled. It’s not difficult We don't have many seats at The Mem, so it doesn't really apply that much to us does it? We can stand where we want in 90% of the ground. Home games are completely different anyway as you have more choice. If an allocation is sold out or it's a big away following then I'm sure most people will have etiquette, courtesy and use common sense.

I think he created all 4, Guy Whittingham definitely scored all 4. Whittingham ended up scoring 48 goals that season. Just checked the 92/93 table. That Rovers side only managed 30 goals all season between them 🙂 He did, Guy Whittingham 'only' tapped them in. It was definitely the Paul Walsh Show. Another example of how Footballs changed since then. I mentioned on another thread how a player like David Lee who played over 150 games for Chelsea would very rarely end up at Rovers now at the age of 28. He'd probably be on about 80k a week. Even more so a player like Paul Walsh, played nearly 100 times for Liverpool, won a league title played in European Cup Finals etc, then a regular for Spurs winning an FA Cup there. England International. Again a player like that at the age of 30 wouldn't drop down to The Championship now either and would probably be on 100k a week if not more. No wonder he ripped us to shreds.

Haven't been away to Pompey since 92/93. Boxing Day game we got battered 4-1, Vaughan Jones got sent off and Guy Whittingham & Paul Walsh ripped us apart. It looked like we had turned a corner, winning 4 straight games after Malcolm Allison had replaced Denis Rofe, including a 4-0 win over City. This put us firmly back in our place and we went on to only win 3 more games all season to finish rock bottom of what is now The Championship. Who'd have thought we'd never be back at that level since? Same here, Paul Walsh was unplayable that day. I think he created all 4, Guy Whittingham definitely scored all 4. I suppose it all depends on what game it is.
If it's a Tuesday midweek away at Barnsley where only a few hundred will be there and there's probably 2k empty seats it doesn't really matter.
If it's a Wembley Final, big game, local derby or where you know its going to be a biggish allocation it's a bit different.
As the thread title suggests, use etiquette and general common sense.

Your reply would be laughable if it wasn’t so damaging. Yup. No one, except for middle-aged white men, refer to any mention of racism as 'playing the race card'. Laughable isn't it? Embarrassing in fact. That's a pretty 'racist' statement in itself.

With you bideford. I think we will lose at Pompey but your point still remains. Oxford have done loads of their business early doors and we did alright again them! Exeter have hardly signed anyone and started well. Splashing the cash early on in the window isn't always the way either. Oxford start slowly every season, then just when you think Robinson will get the sack they start winning games. A bit like us always seemingly finding it a struggle to recruit players, which is particularly odd this season after the success with EA & co. Is it odd?
Or does it prove that you don't need to rush to bring players in?
Our(Excluding Connor Taylor) 2 best players last season were imo Anthony Evans and Elliot Anderson. Evans didn't sign until 31st August and Elliot Anderson not until the 31st January last season. Both very last day of the deadline deals.

Also, Pompey’s recruitment puts us to absolute shame. Think we’ll get a hammering Saturday and the clubs hand will be forced to improve the playing squad. They paid £2M for John Marquis.
Do you think that's putting us to shame? Or just being reckless with your money just for the sake of it?

Truly disappointed with how this summer window has gone. I just don’t see where we’ve improved the squad at all compared to last year. Less than two ‘proper’ dealing weeks left were left with more questions than answers. I would like to think we’d have 3 out of our 6/7 required in before deadline day. Thinking of previous loans in the lower leagues, Harry Kane to Leyton O (and I don’t think he had the impact Elliot had) and Jermaine Defoe at AFCB all those years ago (who had an almost similar impact) are the two who stand out for me. But even with those Elliot A had a bigger impact (promotion). Any others? Jack Grealish was on loan at Notts County in League 1 for the 2013/14 season. He scored 5 with 7 assists in 38 games.
The following season he made 24 appearances for Villa in all comps.
Whether Elliot will make 24 appearnces for Newcastle this season is yet to be seen or indeed whether he'll become the most expensive Premier League player by the time he's 25!

We've been very poor tonight, but I think we should cut the lads some slack. The last time we played this badly was probably way back in Nov/Dec last year. Shows how far we've come. Not sure tbf, FGR was pretty poor. I do have a bit of a worry here that we're game on, game off in form. We got 'lucky' against Crawley as it was a cup game but otherwise we've actually been pretty inconsistent We've just got promoted.
We've got 6 points from our first 4 games. I'd be happy if we carried on like that, it would mean we would be comfortably mid table at least come May.
We're still not by any means full strength either, with probably 5 or 6 more additions to come in.

Also worth notong that Barnsley got to the Championship play offs season before last, and were 2 divisons above us a couple of months ago. Better to get these kind of results out the way early! Last time we were really bad was last Tuesday at Crawley - admittedly not as bad as this. Who cares about 1st round of League Cup?
League performances I meant

Remember that 5th Round game v Barnsley very well.
They had just came back down from the Premier League that year, Craig Hignett and Bruce Dyer ripped us to shreds that day. Scott Jones also played, ended up signing for us 18 months later and was absolutely sh**e.
Another very young Rovers side with Stephane Leoni, Steve Foster, Mike Trought, Trevor Challis, Rob Trees, Jamie Shore, Roberts & Cureton all in their early 20's or younger.
Also just shows how times have completely changed in Football even since then. Rovers would never be able to sign a 28 year old from Chelsea who had played over 150 games for them, like David Lee these days. He'd be on at least 80k a week!!
