I don't know what's worse the newspapers or twitter. Twitter with out a doubt. Ill informed, uneducated group think is always bad. Yeah you're right. Have you ever had a peek on the Rovers appreciation groups on facebook? It's like looking into the demise of society

It's like looking into the demise of society Lol, no thanks. Gaschat is bad enough!! I'm not on Facebook and I don't use Twitter. I only set up a Twitter account so I could get a birthday shout from Nick Day!

I think it's probably already happened without you realising. Its called education. A bit like the BBC I'm afraid. Insidious brain washing. We're all victims to a degree. Respectfully I would suggest the daily mail and the sun at al are lowering the reading age of the populous not the BBC. Nah it's the schools, i used to read 2 or 3 books a weeks and enjoyed it(cant concentrate enough at present and it's something that really gets to me), people these days seem less likely to read anything other than a headline, do they still even test kids reading ages or spend time with those who read badly, if only kids left school with the ability to read properly instead of just being able to read the words and not able to think ahead with the ability to truly understand what they just read. Oldgas is correct in that TV really has made people stupid and likely to believe anything that on tv , even Lemmy noticed this years ago and wrote a song called talking head sums it up nicely. Lets face it the BBC are selective on what they broadcast at news times or try to change things so it appears pc.

But I can confirm they do spend time reading and they do also support the poor readers with 1:1 adult volunteers who go into schools and sit with kids. My mother in law goes into a school once a week to help the struggling kids. She feels strongly about it and finds it incredibly sad but incredibly rewarding.

Strangely enough was watching something last eve a headteacher mentioned the 3 r's and said the passrate for 11 year olds 53% nationally ,If these figures are correct then by god teachers and parents have a lot to answer for ,i know schools these days are challenging but even so, maybe it's time to do what the yanks do and hold some back a year. When i was at school i remember most people about to leave junior school. to go to the local comprehensive had a reading age of 12+

Now if they so much as try to improve a child's health and nutrition (sausage rolls anyone?) dumdass parents are at the Headmasters office demanding teachers be sacked. Schools are failing, but not as badly as parents are.

We don't generally ban people, or bring people into line, whatever that means. Gashead Gaz wasn't moderated. Not sure why all the 'stop moderating/don't ban people/hands off our threads' crowd are calling for moderator action suddenly. No one knows why GG deleted his account. Only he can tell us and as he's deleted it's reasonable to assume he won't be engaging on this forum again. Having participated in this thread and following research I floated the idea he may have decided to delete his account following a completely unwarranted and over the top volley of abuse because he cracked a weak joke about Middle Eastern men and terrorism. If someone had so roundly abused another poster for any other reason, the mods would have issued warnings re future conduct. The aggressor, on reflection, may even have issued an apology. Not so when it comes to charges of racism. In thes circumstances anything goes. The PC medal polishers consider it their right and sacred duty to treat their victim as a heretic for whom burning at the stake is the least they deserve. No one challenges them, and if someone does, others rush in to justify the accusers. Its a sad reflection of the times we live in. I am firmly of the belief that anyone under the age of 40 has had the ability to think for themselves "educated" out of them. The Liberal Left have held sway in this country for too many years. It's now a right-on paradise for the trendy left wing collective It it used to be called Brain Washing. I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu
