Born in Bath, played youth football for City, decent scoring record and 6ft tall. I can see this happening. He also used to bang them in at Mansfield, DC’s club so no doubt the manager knows a bit about him. At 31, he’s been around the block and I actually think he would be an alright signing. Would be an incredibly disappointing signing. 12 goals in open play from 45 appearances in League Two last season and 8 goals in open play from 42 appearances during the 16/17 season. so... on a par with Ellis then...

so... on a par with Ellis then... Ellis was in League One last season, not League Two. Ellis has just stepped up a League....so why can’t this player do so? (For clarity I know nothing about him other that what is said in here - just asking)

One of the very few things I dislike about DC is his knack of making each transfer sound like war and peace. Bradford sell a player and bring a new one in the same day. We sell one asap and then enter into protracted negotiations that sound like we are trying to secure the release of hostages. I wish we were as efficient at signing players as we are at getting shot of them! True but I thought we signed some guy to deal with recruitment for DC? Another pointless management role imo. DC said that he and Widdrington had given the owners our list of targets. As yet nowt has happened. I can understand a club like Peterborough having a head of recruitment (although they seem to be doing quite nicely as it is) whereas for us given how sporadic we are in making signings it seems like another waste of a wage that could go towards the playing budget.

He has played against League One sides 8 times over the past couple of seasons and managed to score one goal.

I'm sorry, but this absolute nonsense. Apart from the manager, the 'head of recruitment' or 'chief scout' has to be one of the most important positions at any football club.

We can only speculate on how much of a contribution our head of recruitment makes- but just going by how we are struggling to sign a striker whilst other clubs have got it all sorted I would say that there is a problem in the system somewhere. It may not be with the head of recruitment, it may be the budget or whatever but either way if there is a problem somewhere it doesn't help the head of recruitment do their job and naturally lessens the value they bring to the club.

AND I take it, you've not seen him play!?!

Our 'head of recruitment' has only just arrived - it took Mike Ashton at City several months at least to make an impact - and look how much money his signings have made for them - give the guy a chance -

It's ridiculous to compare the two players because anyone that has seen the two players knows they are in different leagues, both metaphorically and literally. And yes I have seen Green play.

You can't compare players by stats all the time, if we did that Aden Flint would be a good replacement for most strikers in the leagues below. Matt Green is a very average league 2 striker tbf and is be very underwhelmed if we were to sign him.

I would think the hold up is due to the fact that the board and Clarke are miles apart. DC wants a quality centre forward but the board want to spend as little as possible. Those two things don’t go hand in hand unless you unearth a gem and even then it takes time for such players to develop.

Which is why I think we are putting the cart before the horse by appointing a professional personnel infrastructure when we don't know if we will ever have the sort of conditions to allow them to do their jobs properly. Just seems mad to me to have the ceo, head of recruitment, office in london etc and yet we won't even have a training ground in 12 months time.

Probably, I just would have thought with a head of recruitment we might be a bit more efficient in the transfer market. Again it seems so backwards that we can't be organised enough to know pretty quickly how much we can spend of the Harrison money. And then we dither and other clubs leave us in the dust when it comes to signings. I still struggle to believe that two days from the start of the season we have two recognised strikers neither of whom has any sort of pedigree in league one.

When DC says we will have to see what's left in the budget for a second striker it suggests he has the funds for one striker and he knows what the budget is. We wait to see how much choice one costs before we slag anyone off.

It's a bit different to appointing a CEO when you already have a chairman and renting a seemingly expensive office in London. A head of recruitment is vital. End of. I can't believe we're even having this discussion. If you want to hear how vital the role is listen to this when you get chance: downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/5live/5lspecials/5lspecials_20110803-1154a.mp3

Let's be honest. I am not expecting the club to splash out millions on players like Marriott Pitman Wyke . However; if we expect to push for the top 6 then we should be recruiting or competing for players like Eaves Doyle Taylor Henderson Marquis . What is now clear is the club are miles away from this. We haven't the budget resources or vision to attract even mid table top div one strikers.
So were does it leave us ?.
I am guilty building up expectations and believing under Walel and co we would attract the best. Having reflected I now accept we are a moderate division one club with very limited resources. This is reflected in our 'wish list ' of players . I don't expect too much this season survival would feel ok. So now I know this reality I suppose we all need to accept loans free's and average division two players. After all : could we raise the money for Ian Henderson or John Marquis ? Not a chance..
