Whichever way you look at it neither DC or GC failed. UTG! Both failed to get a goal from Nichols. Both failed to get any effort out of Bennett.

I do remember, with total disbelief, watching as Nichols scored with a diving header at Ipswich.
That was the strangest of days. Seeing GC celebrating like a lunatic on the touch line in front of the fans, to sitting on the train with my mate and our 2 lads, discussing a great performance and wondering if GC had found a way of playing decent footie, to total disbelief on hearing, as the train pulled out of Ipswich station, that GC was ‘considering’ his future. Which of course meant that he was off, and that statement was made as a ‘come and get me’ message to the Mansfield owner.
unforgivable.

Whichever way you look at it neither DC or GC failed. UTG! They failed personally with us as they both quit for differing reasons, DC just lost his way and GC seemed to have some dispute with the owners given his post Ipswich interview. I'm not saying they were failures with us but clearly their relationships with the owners wasn't perfect come the end, perhaps BG's approach may work as success must be us eventually making the playoffs, not just winning a few games then quitting, for whatever reasons, as GC did,

EG: Bringing young players in and developing them and selling them on down the line for a profit, all the while playing attractive football and trying to get us into the championship, or beyond one day. GC knew at Ipswich that his stock was at the highest level it was going to be at this club.I've no doubt he asked the owners for X, Y and Z ahead of the January transfer window but was knocked back due to his style of play.He probably got tapped up by someone at Mansfield and knew of there interest before his last interview, and as he got told no about having funds to strengthen, he left. GC did such a fine job while being a caretaker here, that he forced the owners hands to give him the job even tho he didn't fit into the clubs long term vision. GC proved himself tho, while BG has done far from that here but talks a great game and is what weal is looking for. I hope Ben turns it around and become a great manager here.

GC left for different (personal) reasons? and nothing to do with club owners? His Ipswich ending with the supporters was unusual for him but probably because he knew he was going and was saying Thank You. UTG

He just came up with a load of bollocks about how he didn't think he could take the club further and seeing which way he would wake up in the morning.

He's not even managed for half a season, bored of reading these posts, they're for the people who love to wallow in depression. Who knows, maybe he'll be the worst we've ever seen but at least give the guy a half season with the team he produces before we start slagging him off The problem with that it is (a) the team he produces might not be very good, and it could put us down before we can change anything (and cost a lot in transfers) and (b) we might never recover, go back to Div 2 and we could be there for years

The saving grace for me is Widdrington has a big say from the looks of it. Then again a new manager will have to instill his philosophy and we’re back to square one.

I may live to regret this but personally I think Garner is going to be a success.... I have nothing to base that on other than gut feel and the support that I read in the press from others at different clubs etc, but I just have the feeling.... He came in at a time with a team that had been well drilled to play a specific style of football that was effective but not pretty. It was completely different to how Garner wants to play. He didn’t have the players to play in the way he wanted and he had some that didn’t want to play in his new way - the result was the poor form we saw.... (Not forgetting the personal issues he was going through too at the time) He recruited in Jan with a view for this coming season and he’ll bolster that in this transfer window. He is supposedly a fantastic coach and the players he’s bought so far are in that ‘potential, talent, coachable’ space. The Jan players now have also now had 6 months to get used to the new surroundings and we have Hare returning which I think will make a difference. I do think he’ll buy a little bit of experience to balance things out but the core group will be similar to what we had when first in the conference - young, hungry, wanting to improve and with a point to prove. We may not see an amazing level of consistency initially but I do think he and the team will come good.... Building a decent training ground etc all points to putting the right foundations in place to support this... I really do think we’ll be a higher performing team this year with one eye on promotion maybe next year with a team capable of holding their own in the championship with a decent LG 1 season followed by a LG 1 promotion season and that experience behind them.. Personally I think we should cut him some slack, get behind him and support him and see how the season pans out.... And the plan is then to sell our best players

Martin Dobson was totally useless as a Rovers manager sacked after 1 win in 12 - 8.3% win rate. BG talks the talk - now he has to deliver - his record to date is totally abysmal. Personally I'd give him another 12 games or so to deliver a reasonable return - maybe a 40% win rate. Wasn't Dobsonas as a bloke a complete and utter asshole in everything he did? He completely alienated the players in every possible way as if he was desperate to get fired. I don't sense that BG is unpopular, in fact players have gone out of their way to praise his training methods. Just sayin. Not true about Dobson. Two of the players went to the board and said they would like to be Player managers. The board said No, and appointed Dobson. As a result the players wouldn't play for him. Remember he gave Stewart his debut. Ask Twentyman, he was one of them

As an interesting aside, here's the record compared to DC's last 16 games... DC P 16 W 3 D 5 L 8 GF 9 GA 16 Pts 14 PPG 0.875 W% 18.17 BG P 16 W 2 D 5 L 9 GF 9 GA 25 Pts 11 PPG 0.647 W% 12.5 Yet, most agreed on here that it was time for DC to go. So the Best ofGarner V the Worst of DC. Not much to choose from really

Well all of your assumption is wrong because at the time of GCs appointment Steve Hamer was lobbying for Steve Cottrill to be appointed. GC got the job because he was so close to getting a No1 job at 2 different clubs and Starnes was the instigator behind lining him up for the job upon DCs departure. The fact he was appointed as caretaker instead of Marcus Stewart says an awful lot. GC was tapped up by Mansfield who made an emotional bid for him based on their location.

Do you really have to lower yourself to such a level to prostitute yourself on behalf of others? What you are quoting is down right lies and is a sad reflection of the grovelling you are following to try and disgrace certain people. I thought you were better than that. But no, you appear to be speaking on behalf of others. It would be interesting to know exactly what your aim is because currently it looks rather weird. I really do hope that you have an answer that makes sense because under the right circumstances you could be one who is the future of BRFC? But on the evidence so far that is in doubt.
