I think GC didn't fit into the model of what Wael wants us to become. EG: Bringing young players in and developing them and selling them on down the line for a profit, all the while playing attractive football and trying to get us into the championship, or beyond one day. GC knew at Ipswich that his stock was at the highest level it was going to be at this club.I've no doubt he asked the owners for X, Y and Z ahead of the January transfer window but was knocked back due to his style of play.He probably got tapped up by someone at Mansfield and knew of there interest before his last interview, and as he got told no about having funds to strengthen, he left. GC did such a fine job while being a caretaker here, that he forced the owners hands to give him the job even tho he didn't fit into the clubs long term vision. GC proved himself tho, while BG has done far from that here but talks a great game and is what weal is looking for. I hope Ben turns it around and become a great manager here. Well all of your assumption is wrong because at the time of GCs appointment Steve Hamer was lobbying for Steve Cottrill to be appointed. GC got the job because he was so close to getting a No1 job at 2 different clubs and Starnes was the instigator behind lining him up for the job upon DCs departure. The fact he was appointed as caretaker instead of Marcus Stewart says an awful lot. GC was tapped up by Mansfield who made an emotional bid for him based on their location. Employees only get "tapped up" if their employers let them do it, looking back if the owners had convinced GC to stay, I assume matching whatever Mansfield were prepared to offer may have been enough, plus back him with reasonable funds last January we could well now be looking forward to a play off final. Now we're just all sat here hoping, even praying, that BG can't be a bad a manager as he appeared to be last season. Unfortunately we have little evidence to suggest he won't be. You do wonder if he's capable of convincing any player with experience to join us this summer. Even our club captain would sooner play L2 football then play under BG, you really couldn't make that up.

How are any of my "assumption's" wrong? Or proven to be so? If GC got the job in the first place over Hamer wanting SC at the time, doesn't this back up my point that our board had no other choice but to give GC the job after his caretaker run? Why would they give him it after DC if 2 other clubs were after him? I agree with the Manfield comment, but I still think he went to put owners and said I want - A,B and C and they said in your way so he left given tha5 and Mansfields location. Mansfield were aware of this and as you said made an emotional plea to GC .Thus the whole Ipswich episode..

Do you really have to lower yourself to such a level to prostitute yourself on behalf of others? What you are quoting is down right lies and is a sad reflection of the grovelling you are following to try and disgrace certain people. I thought you were better than that. But no, you appear to be speaking on behalf of others. It would be interesting to know exactly what your aim is because currently it looks rather weird. I really do hope that you have an answer that makes sense because under the right circumstances you could be one who is the future of BRFC? But on the evidence so far that is in doubt. Hello Roy, How are you? Nice to see you are ok, we haven’t seen you for a while. I’m glad you’ve stayed safe. Ummm, a fair amount of accusations there old boy? Prostituting myself how and to whom? Who am I trying to disgrace? Whom am I speaking on behalf of? The rest of your post is full of riddles I don’t understand. If you are referring to me standing as the fans director for the SC then it’s already well known on here and on social media. Take care old boy.

Are you guys still arguing on about what our former chairman did or did not do?
This constant digging back up old rumours/tales does nobody any favours, regardless of what side you're on, or if you're like me and the majority of Gasheads, neither side. Most people could not give a rats arse about it, and all it does is to serve as a giant fart of negativity stinking out the place.
Give it a rest.

But football is different where agents are conniving and are always looking out for themselves firstly, then the player/manager they represent. But let’s not rewrite history here. You’re making the assumption that it was financial decision and motive that took GC there. If you listened to Martyn’s interview after GC left, assuming he’s telling the whole truth and nothing he’s said so far would make me disbelieve him, that there were 2 approaches from Mansfield, the first the club rebuffed and the 2nd one on the Saturday morning, where they clearly offered him something personal which made him have a decision to make, but that decision was expected on the Monday when MS and GC would talk about it. However GC made his position completely untenable himself by his radio interview. MS also stated that formal discussions had been given in regards to Jan and a budget was available (subsequently proven by the budget given to BG). A lot of people here too slated GC, hated his football style, attacked him verbally on matchdays and allegedly his daughter on social media. Attendances were down and people were staying away saying they weren’t entertained. Hardly going to make an employee stay around in any job if he gets a comparative offer is it. Now these people are bemoaning the fact he did leave when most of them were party to the complaining to begin with. Even our club captain was slated so badly at times, you can’t help but wonder if he was as sick of the fans telling him he was awful, not captain material and didn’t do X Y and Z most of the time, that that wasn’t a factor in his decision to go.

Mansfield were aware of this and as you said made an emotional plea to GC .Thus the whole Ipswich episode.. That GC didn’t fit in with Wael’s methodology for starters. I think Wael was very happy to have us sat in 3rd place in December and GC had already started bleeding our own youngsters into the team like Kilgour, Menayese, Tomlinson, Hargreaves in various matches in his time in charge so he was quite happy using youth. GC gave a good account of himself as caretaker sure, but that never guarantees anyone a job. The board would have had 100 or so, but they chose the best man in their opinion. MS knows GC inside out from their time at Plymouth and he was once a strong candidate to take over there. Whatever the offer was, GC made his own position untenable, managers and players get approached all the time, it’s part of the game, but the ones with decency and loyalty keep their trap shut in the media and thrash it out behind closed doors first. GC didn’t show us any respect or regard when it came to that, he couldn’t wait to get it off his chest. Don’t confuse that with honesty, that was a man who deep down wasn’t committed to our club or clause.

Personally there is a lot here that I agree with as it makes sense. With OC leaving I think it was down to 2 or 3 things - a) He'd been with us his entire career and had got to that point that a lot of people do when they've been somewhere a long time in that it got a bit stale and was wanting to test himself somewhere else to freshen up and also prove to himself that he's a good player on merit not just loyalty; b) they offered a 2 year contract and we only offered 1 and in current circumstances that extra security was probably important and c) and this is pure speculation - money. The signing on fee and wage may have been higher than what we were offering (say it was extra £200 per week then on a 2 year deal that's an extra £20k....

Can someone substantiate the Ollie Clarke 1 year vs 2 year contract at Mansfield business or is that a gaschat fact?

Can someone substantiate the Ollie Clarke 1 year vs 2 year contract at Mansfield business or is that a gaschat fact? The club never revealed the length of the contract offered to Ollie but the Post reported it as being a one year extension. Mansfield confirmed they had signed him on a 2 year deal. Don’t know if that substantiates it given the post’s track record but there’s at least something to it.

Can someone substantiate the Ollie Clarke 1 year vs 2 year contract at Mansfield business or is that a gaschat fact? It was quoted in the EP that we offered a 1 year extension (not totally reliable I admit) and in his signing release at Mansfield it said he’d signed a 2 year contract..... That’s what I think I read or heard in his interview

If the recent board changes had happened say one year or nine months ago for example, do you think things with GC may have been different? With Wael more prepared to invest maybe he would have given GC more of a budget in the transfer window or offered him a better contract? Not that it matters now!
