To clarify, I'm not saying it somehow makes JCH a poor player, or that we should sell him. I just don't think a professional footballer should be showing up in the shape he has - everyone else seems to have managed to stay in shape and, to be honest it's the least you expect from a professional sportsman. I just think it's very disrespectful in all honesty and, coupled with sitting on his contract extension for over half a year(?) I do think he's giving us the run around somewhat. Again, he's entitled to - but that alongside the lack of fitness could be construed as not giving us 100%, which I think is the least we deserve TBH. I get why he's loved by many - I'm a big fan too in the main - but, IMO, that doesn't mean he can get away with treating the club disrespectfully (which I appreciate is perhaps a matter of opinion at this point). Has JCH really been sat on the same contract offer for 6 months? Might be common knowledge for most but it's the first I'd seen of it. Sounds crazy if true. Not exactly - contract talks started in January but then got held up due to the injury situation with JCH. Then lockdown started and I believe contract talks have recently restarted. I assume his agent is trying to get a move to a "bigger" club and IF JCH refuses to sign an extension then regrettably we would have no choice other than selling him for the best price we can get. But the fact is none of us know the true situation and we will have to wait and see what develops. I hope he signs an extension and stays plus plays at his best all season!

Also season 18/19 he played 46 games and 40 games the season before that.

Maybe because we are only playing 1 up front then JCH is putting on weight to make it look like we have 2 up there? 😂
Early days yet! I find it difficult to understand how our fans question his commitment to the club when you look at what he has given on the pitch in the last 2 seasons. His work rate has always been up there and usually better than anyone else’s? He never goes missing! Give the man some slack, literally! We still have a month and these are only friendlies! JCH Always 4 Me!

You've used that statistic every time I mention his injurys last season, all this tells me is how desperate we were last season to keep pushing out an injured striker week in week out, your statistic only highlights the need for another, if we end up keeping him we are going to need to share the load

This place never ceases to amaze me. Get to grips,it is the second pre season match and we have many players playing their first games for the club and both games have been used to look at the entire squad with nobody knowing what will be the first choice at season start or if we will have another couple of signings through the door or maybe lose a couple of players. When did we last have so many players into the club for the first friendly? We would usually be saying that the friendlies don't matter because we still need lots of key signings. Personally the first two matches have given me hope both for the players we have and the team as a whole. Nobody was poor today and all did some good things throughout and some bad things but that is football. Impressed today with Little, Ehmer, Baldwin, Upson was top class when he came on and Nicholson showed signs of good things to come as did Josh Grant. Alright Little gave a silly back pass but it was a poor ball to him to put him in the situation but apart from that he had a sound game. Rome was not built in a week, lets just settle down and see what happens without being critical of every move.

Really!? Looks all the same to me. Your literary making up rubbish about a player and selling it as gospel. You never attended any of his fitness assessments on return to pre season and you know nothing more than the rest of us. Are you really trying to write off our best player over the last 18 months because he looked a bit leggy in his first pre season games after a 3 month lay off. He's not making up rubbish. It's a shame that JCH struggled to maintain his weight/fitness during lockdown, there aren't really any excuses for that - all the others seem to have managed to come back in reasonable shape. Hopefully the strapped thigh isn't a long term worry - I'd love to see him back to his best. Would physical injuries ,ill health , mental health issues , family issues or bereavements all count as inexcusable ? As to another persons point over the contract. Maybe he wants to see what the team looks like. After all BG took a promotion candidate position and turned it into a losing streak and mid table finish. Got rid of half the team and replaced it with mostly low experience youngsters. Perhaps he wants to hold fire a little ,make sure he doesn't sign a 3 year deal with a league 2 bound team. I do not think the team will be as bad as the end of last season .A 10th place should be achievable with some comfort. I fully understand if JCH is hesitant over committing though.

But I do agree we could do with another striker for competition.

If he’s still with us and fit and playing well by the time the season starts that’s all that matters.

I'd get yourself an eye test pronto. Quite clearly carrying a lot more than usual IMO and many others have commented along the same lines also. And irony is a stunningly beautiful thing - you claiming I'm trying to "write off" our best player when I clearly haven't done anything close to that. And in case the irony is lost on you, "making up rubbish and selling it as gospel". You literally stated in a earlier post we should get rid of him. I would put that firmly in the realms of a write off. Go on then - prove it.... this should be fun. stop making up rubbish.

What bigger club is going to sign him though, none of the present L1 clubs seems to have any money and I can't honestly see he's looked Championship quality since his last injury?

Agree but if he comes cheap, then ....? He did look a bit off at the back end of the last few games but if you don't get the service ..... Hate to say it but a club not a few miles away may think twice especially if JCH starts off good? I doubt that he would go there though!

Gangly and skinny Harry Pell like, one poster said he was okay, I was decorating so unable to view, just wondered if he was any good? I wasn't overly impressed with Trialist, I'm afraid. He was OK, but I can't think of anything that stood out about his performance.
On the plus side, I was really impressed by Westbrooke and Grant. Westbrooke seems to be able to control play well and looks to go forward a lot. For a young lad, Grant is strong and neat in his passing.
Whilst I agree that JCH was a bit below par today, there were plenty of promising signs throughout the side.
Another thing. For anyone who purchased the stream, you can still play back the game. I had to go out and missed the second half, but watched the game again last night. £5 well spent.

We out with my gf yesterday so couldn't watch, but nice to see that we got another win, this time against a quality L2 side.
I do think that whilst preseason is mainly about fitness and experimentation, building a winning mentality can surely only be a good thing. Particularly as Garner struggled for wins after he came in. Fingers crossed it bodes well for the season, but as we know from history, pre season results often mean jacksh**.
