Garner’s lack of proactive management in matches like tonight is starting to concern me. We looked toothless & ineffective in the second half, barely created a chance, and yet all BG could muster was a few like-for-like subs (again). If a game was getting away from us under DC, he’d change the shape, give the opposition something completely new to deal with & often swing the momentum of the match in our favour. That’s management. Why not take off a CB and go 4-3-3 for the last 30 minutes tonight? At least Posh would have been caught off guard by it. But no, we just carried on in the exact same pattern as the rest of the game, with Posh getting more and more on top, and went down with a whimper. Inspiring stuff. Don’t worry though, cos it was a top team and no one expected us to get anything from the game, so really it doesn’t actually count . . . Reading the pre-match stuff I thought the same. Blimey we were playing Peterborough not Man U. They were good but only scored with two worldies. (Yes I know, “only” 😉) I hope BG wasn’t reading it, or perhaps he was and that’s why he was too negative imo. Defence played very well and kept Posh at a distance after letting Dembele in twice at the start. At least they learned from getting away with it. UTG!

P’Boro are a very strong side. They didn’t destroy us but deserved the win. No huge defensive blunders, ok could have defended better but how often do you get punished twice by such amazing strikes from distance? We were poor in the final third, both wingbacks were disappointing and our most attacking theee players didn’t perform well at all on the night. A few calls for early subs but the brief cameos from Oztumer so far have been a bit disappointing, I fear he may not be the player of 5 years everyone thought we were signing but need to see him with more time on the pitch before making judgement. Grant, Westbrooke and Ehmer all very good. Agree eric, except for Oztumer comment. You may be right because we’ve only seen him in small bursts and he may not be as good. But I thought tonight his small burst was his best. He actually runs with the ball and creates something. We need him to start imo so we can actually see if he’s as good as we hope he is. And of course Liddell must be coming into contention. I can’t believe he’s another Johnny Burn, we sign him from Middlesbrough but never play him! UTG!defenders have the easiest job in the world ironically i thought that Oztumer was starting to look for the ball more when he came on and i was more optimistic than in the previous game. We are too content to play the safe ball and build slowly so the defenders just wait and crowd out our strikers . At the beginning we had a couple of quick shots from midfield but the stopped . We need a forceful player driving from midfield

This is why some of us were concerned about giving Garner more time- he can have his own players, fine, but that doesn’t fix whether or not he has the nous, or even the ability to figure out the nous, to be a league manager. Even in our wins I don’t think he has pulled any sort of master stroke mid-game to turn the tide our way. After so many games you might think he would have learnt to switch things up a bit. It doesn’t seem like he is that concerned about chasing a result once the opposition score. It’s very much a case of still keeping our shape at 1-0/2-0 down even though he must not be confident of us getting back into it because we hardly score many even when we are on top let alone when trailing. My take on it is that he is coming at it from a football purist’s point of view. It’s all about being disciplined having unwavering faith in your methods and sticking rigidly to the game plan even when it’s slipping away from you. The evidence is that it’s not worked too well so far with 3 wins from however many games. I somewhat expect it to still be the same in April, games where we are heading for defeat we still see subs being made too late and even then just like for like with no attempt to adapt and try something different. I worry that Garner is too wedded to his beliefs to do anything radically different to get better outcomes.

The highlights don’t paint it as evenly as I would have liked it. Thought we may have made something other than Hanlan effort in the second half. Because we fell short just before taking a shot on. 10 corners suggests we got up the pitch but didn't create much clear cut when we were there. Slightly clutching at straws but there were a few good blocks from them too that rarely get a look in on the highlights. Hare's delivery was atrocious. On another night I'm convinced we would have had some solid opportunities if he hit his mark like he usually does. Countless balls in from the right.

Had a few doubts when he signed that the hype was just a bit over the top and expectations too high and based on performances we all witnessed quite a few years ago. The little bits we’ve seen so far haven’t been great but need to see longer spells on the pitch before making any final judgements - I hope he becomes the player he was once again.

That's the issue it was pretty clear BG needed to make changes at halftime but, as ever, he waited until we'd concided the second goal before making any changes, although even then he stuck to his rigid 5-3-2 formation, why not go 4-4-2 or even 4-3-3 and take the game to Posh? I fear DC's Walsall will now beat us on Saturday, particularly if BG decides to treat it as another training session.

Thought we were beaten by the better team, tbh.
Two absolute screamers sorted us out. Championship finishing, where really we had little answer.
Posh showed more temperament, played the ball better looked dangerous everywhere (but particularly on our right of defence) and were worthy winners.
We had a couple of spurned chances, but Jaak made two fantastic saves, one tip onto the post that looked in....so it could so easily have been worse.
Dembele m o m for me. Jaak our m o m for me.
Positives include credit to BG for having faith in AK and sticking with him. Hanlan again tirelessly ran his heart out, even created one great opportunity for himself. Jaak goalkeeping kept us in it. Hare got alot of opportunity for his sometimes pinpoint crosses. Decent defence to shut out and keep quiet jch..
Negatives include not Daly day. Alfie committing himself to lead to first goal. I still think BG does not have a clue how to manipulate or change a game when it's slipping from us, an unforced change after 2 down is naive to think we can claw something from a match that had slipped away. BG acted too late again, and I still haven't seen anything to make me think he can affect a positive result through his changes or subs.
Ok, Peterborough showed us some classy, sophisticated football even without a jch input, and we did compete alot in first half.
Maybe it's just me but I was left a little disappointed we couldn't have made it far more difficult for them..

There is a pattern developing which shows us where we are, we are not yet a top six side and although those that are are not hammering us they are beating us quite comfortably. It is a bit disappointing that we do not really look like we can trouble them to much but we are evolving slowly and in another 10 games or so we should be a lot closer to them. We have a lot of options with players and have not really explored these options as yet ,perhaps its time to do so. I think we sit in the middle third of the division twixt 9 and 16 at the moment and that will be our lot this season , this is acceptable IMHO given the huge turnover of players and with the training ground development think we are heading in the right direction for a sustainable successful future. think Wael believes in the club and the direction the coaches are taking us and is willing to be patient , think we must be as well , frustrating though it is sometimes, we must get past these over the top reactions to every win or defeat, entertaining though it may be! upthe Rovers!

The stats seem to reflect the game I watched last night and to be fair I'm a little surprised by some of the comments on here. I thought we played well and it was 2 evenly matched teams in the main. Kilgours mistake cost us the first and the brilliance of the shot was the 2nd... (Yes he should have been closed down more but the shot was a 1 in 100 rifle into the top corner). The main difference between the sides were in the final 3rd where posh were taking longer shots and had more penetration whereas we kept trying to walk the ball in the net. I thought Grant was excellent - many a time he got a foot in or broke up play and turned his man and was simple and effective. Westbrooke played well too apart from set pieces which were overly predictable and not executed well enough. Hanlan worked tirelessly as always and I thought Ehmer played well too in the position I'd prefer to see him in. Jaakkola was Jaakola. ... solid and dependable and pulled off a couple of great saves and could do nothing with the goals. Hare was disappointing. ... got done too often and his normally brilliant crossing was off. Also Tutonda was ineffective .... I rate him but personally I would have preferred Leahy to have started last night and Tutonda to have been rested. I know this will be an unpopular opinion to many on here but I actually see real potential and progress. We are a developing team getting better game by game and it's just the final 3rd and cutting out individual mistakes that needs working on....

Agree with much of that, especially on Grant who was very good last night. Our wingbacks were disappointing in attack yesterday, especially Hare who has set his standards high. In defence of Hare he is still relatively inexperienced at this level and won’t come up against any tougher opponents than Dembele so he’ll definitely learn from the experience and continue to progress.

At present we are simply not good enough to beat the top teams in this league. We will get few points from the top teams and Peterborough are definitely one of those.
I predicted on an earlier post that we would lose by two goals. For once I was right.
This Rovers team rarely scores more than one goal a game and rarely keeps a clean sheet. With that level of performance, the top teams will have little trouble with us.
On the positive side, we can use this season as one whereby a young team gains experience and avoids relegation. Hopefully by playing attractive football. Next season, a tilt at the play offs is a realistic aspiration. This season, we are simply not. up to the required standard for anything more than survival in L1.
