He could also be thinking that with 6 months left on his contract in January, he might as well run his contract down and be in a better position to negotiate a good wage and big signing on fee as a free agent in the summer. We could pick him up for free then and for a lot less cash (depending on competition from other teams).

Would having JCH in our squad significantly increase our chance of promotion? I think so.
Do I personally have to hand over my savings to help pay his transfer fee? No
If the owner(s) are willing to use their own cash to buy him, whether that was Aug or in Jan, then all good as far as I’m concerned.

That c.£400k difference would have been paid back with a minimum of a play off place. Whether he would have proven the difference we'll never know. |

Remind me, what did JCH do Sat? I'm not sure judging against a team he'd clearly like to play for is the best way to judge him, although he did make a decent block on the line to save a certain goal. |

I thought we originally were interested in Alfie May, different type of player than JCH.
Was JCH last throw of the dice or was the May chatter just a rumour?

Barton was open about us going after May, but has always rated JCH too. I wouldn't class the near signing a last throw of the dice at all, and expect he'll be our main target in January |

Macanthony did say in an earlier interview they wanted a deal done as soon as the window was open on Jan 1st.
That would suggest a deal may well be in the offing.

I suspect it won’t be allowed but then again is it something that happens but well away from the eyes of the public so we’d never have heard of it happening? |
