Oh? What about the points dropped elsewhere in the season? If we hadn't have thrown away points we might have gone up as Champs. The fact is we did drop points and only beating Scunthorpe secured promotion. Right, but not Rochdale or Port Vale beforehand. There's 46 games not 1.

Or Belly’s stops, the relationship between Taylor & Beefy, Coutts captaincy, Finley’s dogged displays, the Rhino, Collins, Evans… Talented kid & he gave us an edge but only getting promoted because of him alone is just nonsense. If EA hadn't played v Scunthorpe then we wouldn't have been promoted. In April we were 1-0 down at home to Bradford, Finley scored a second half banger & Taylor bundled in a late winner? Evans also scored a late rasper free kick to edge past Barrow 1-0 a month earlier. Wouldn’t have been promoted without those either, just two of many examples. Ya can’t pick & choose your moment in a 46 game season to suit.

No doubt everyone played their part, but I agree that without Anderson we might not have even made the play offs.
He was so good, even when marked by two men, he made space for others that they had time to take a touch and look up. Take those couple of seconds away and look what happened.
I don't think it was a surprise the midfield and defence didn't look anywhere near as good on the ball the next season.
Lots of posters thought Evans, Coutts, Whelan, Finlay and Connolly etc all had a loss of form. Instead there was one major common denominator - EA was not playing.

It was the arrival of EA that galvinised our season and promotion. Hats off to JB for securing his services. I clearly remember us losing to FGR opening game we lost, and turning to the supporters next to me and saying, "we're just an ordinary Lg 1 team now." We still are. My biggest gripe is the lack of shots on target or excitement. The chance to cross being declined and the ball recycled back to the half way line. EA did upset opposing teams with his runs at the defence, it pulled them around. Sinclair tries but hasn't got the legs or the bottle to do it now. I am yet to be convinced this style of football will get us top 6.

Problem is when we do cross the ball it's mostly gobbled up by defenders, as for some reason none of the forward players can keep possession of the ball. When it comes to shooting only Collins, Brown and Evans are prepared to shoot on sight, we would never score a goal like Lincolns as our wide men would never shoot in similar circumstances.

EA may have been a major factor, but there’s is always a stand out player or players in any promotion Lambert, Roberts, 2006 Taylor,2013/14 to name a few others. To use a cooking analogy you can have all the key ingredients but you have to have the right recipe and JB had the right recipe to get us promoted.

Whatever happened in L2 We are now in L1. Posters are very quick to dismiss players as being a level below where we are. Maybe it applies to the manager too? Joey needs to show he can manage a team in L1. Not just have contacts and talk the talk. 8-10 games to get something from this talented squad he has put together.

Yes he did. In the first leg they had a sending off which effectively ended their chances of progressing. Pure speculation as to what might have happened with 11v 11.

I missed the game again unfortunately, given how close we got to signing JCH (and fair enough it was probably to late to play him) but in theory if he was up top for the 90 minutes do people think he’d have turned that draw into a win? For example did we miss anything he would have scored all day long, could he have kept the ball in their have for much more of the game and as he does, won lots of free kicks in dangerous areas that could have lead to goal opportunities. Generally do people think he would have been the missing piece in our team??
Apologies if this isn’t a thread about JCH I only had a quick look, now I’m not so sure haha

However, as out front line were down the channels there was no one there to take advantage.

He used to do a good job up front completely alone half the time when he was here last time, I’m so gutted not to be able to see what he could do with the talent we have in attacking midfield. I’m just hoping we’re not to far behind the pack come January. Look how low we were with little time left in Trollopes promotion season, if we sign JCH in January I’ll believe again!

I think we need a boost, not sure how we achieve that. Maybe bringing someone like Lyle Taylor on a short term contract, maybe bringing Connor Wickham in. I'm sure the JCH issue has had an impact in the dressing room. Personally, I think Marquis should start. He always batters the defenders, even if it's just for 70 mins then we can mix it up and play the tippy tippy through the middle with downtrodden defenders to face. Sinclair is a super sub, he shouldn't be starting. (Controversial alert) I don't really rate Thomas. He huffs and puffs but has no final product, maybe he should be playing on the left? We seem to be set up to play with width, bringing defenders out and then Boom make that killer pass-out wide. Problem is, when it goes out wide we just aren't doing anything with the ball. Brown and Collins seem to be too alike, both should be rattling them in playing off a number 9 that can win balls in the air and flick the ball for them to run onto. I do think we are only one player away from having a team that can compete well in this league, certainly against Wycombe and Lincoln, if we had got the first goal there would have been a different result.

When has Marquis ever battered defenders in a Rovers shirt, he gets stuck into the task but like all the rest of our strikers always seems too lightweight to cause any problems for defenders then, when he gets a chance misses. Although at least he makes the odd chance.

Although at least he makes the odd chance. It's not about battering defenders, it's about holding the ball up backing into defenders, generally putting yourself about a bit. Marquis is the only forward we have who can do this. Collins and Brown are too lightweight and get dispossessed to easily. All this team is missing is that physical presence, that Collins Brown or Marquis can play off. Having EA in our promotion season was like having a big man up top because he was so strong, he made it difficult to get the ball from him... If we could just find a number 9 who can hold onto it with runners off him..

Although at least he makes the odd chance. We've agreed on quite a few things over the last couple of days. This however, I cannot agree with. When Marquis is on the pitch, don't watch the ball watch Marquis. He is always having a tussle with a defender. Normally, the defender falls on their arse and no free kick is given. When Marquis goes down (oooer!) 9 times out of 10 we get a free kick.

OK, JM is a pain but he hardly batters defenders like JCH, or even Coburn/Harrison, we lack a natural CF in the squad but have loads of No 10's. I can't understand why JB didn't bring back up in for JCH, as it's unlikely he would have played every game even if he'd signed.
