Another thing to consider is the JCH situation. He is clear that he wants to move closer to Bristol. Maybe the board are torn between going back in for JCH or going for Martin? Would be Martin for me on a free. I agree that it’s alarming, if only for the reason that Taylor doesn’t seem to have anything like the final say in this. Where's it clear JCH wants to move closer to Bristol, all we know is his father lives here, there's nothing to say a 29 year old man wants to move back to live near his dad? Although surely earning potential £1m+ from a tie at Liverpool will change our spending in this window. Perhaps every is on hold until the result of Wednesday's game is known. The rumour during the summer was that it was to be closer to his partner. Joey said on the Saturday before the end of the window that he wanted to get back to the area due to his family so does sound like the story about his girlfriend and/or father is correct unless his family liked it here before and they wanted to move back to the area.

Don't think we would make £1m plus from a cup game as Liverpool discount pricing will apply. £5 for kids, cheapest entry for adults £9 and best seats in house £31. Still would be useful money particularly with TV coverage.

I can never understand why fans worry about transfer fees it's not like the owners are going to ask us for a contribution or share out the profits if we make any money. Tom Nichols was never worth £350K nor Payne £150K but we've never suffered because the club paid those fees, nor benefited from the transfer fees received for Lambert's & Harrison's. Personally I'd sooner we gambled on JCH and went for a top 6 finish than not and consider a top 10 finish a success. A club like ours should be looking at how smart clubs operate in the transfer market and get some tips. I'd personally rather we were more efficient and self sustainable in the market, building a squad capable of challenging at the right end every season, which is why potential sell-on value is important to a club like ours losing money hand over fist as It allows a certain percentage of fees generated to be reinvested back in the squad. During the previous five years to their £70m stadium getting built, Brentford had sold players for a combined value of £150m, and up to 2021 the average age at which players were signed at in total since the 14/15 season averaged out to 23-years-old. “Recruitment is the bread and butter of Brentford because we have one of the lowest revenues in the league. We need to make the business sustainable by buying cheap and selling expensive, which is what we’ve done over the last few years. “The key is being able to identify undervalued talent in the market, develop them, and then sell them on for profit, gradually building more value into the squad and gradually increasing the level of the squad” said their DoF at the time. Im not necessarily saying we can replicate what Brentford have achieved, but what we can do is be smarter and more efficient, rather than the 'boom and bust' approach. Often wondered why the club never approached Gary Penrice. Still lives locally I understand and works on a freelance basis but not sure who with? Read he specialises in identifying overseas talent.

In the past I believe the club have approached Pen and he was willing to work for Rovers again, but apparently there was a sticking point with terms. He wanted a potential sell-on percentage for any gems he discovered and sold on. Disappointing we couldn't come to an agreement because his eye for a player and knowledge is exceptional. He still has his own agency, but last I heard he was also contracted to Leeds. Lives in the Cotswolds.

Is Martin starting so much and staying on an attempt to say - stay here if you want to play?

Yes, ok for tomorrow and Exeter. Not for Oxford. Would start him on bench tomorrow either way. I agree, and definitely feel like our best strategy is Marquis running them ragged and winding them up for the first 60, then Martin coming on to capitalise on a tired and frustrated defence.

All this talk of pacey strikers who press and the only guy doing what he is paid to do is 35 and barely moves

All this talk of pacey strikers who press and the only guy doing what he is paid to do is 35 and barely moves It does seem an incredibly short sighted decision if true. This sesson is done so we should only be signing players with an eye on next year. Much rather we got in a younger player on loan who might he available in the summer.

martin will easily be ok for this division next year.He is a class act and getting fitter each week. He has never had pace so that has never been his game so he good well go on at a good level similar to Milner. We have too many young players already and need a good mixture. Todays game was a big disappointment but really shows our lack of players in certain positions. There is no point giving up on the season now because that is a route towards relegation. Our target should be too fin ish top ten and for that we need three or four signings.
