Gasify, I think you are being a bit too much the other way with your post against us. No way on Saturday was there a gulf between the two sides. All home teams except us probably tend to start on the front foot and that was the case Saturday however that balanced out after 20 minutes and what was 70% possession for Barnsley ended up pretty well 50% by the end of the game with us having six or 7 clear opportunities. Even the home commentators were praising us for the way we played! We were the better side by a mile and had we scored one of the numerous good chances we had I am sure we would have gone on to win by 2 or 3. They did against Blackpool too. Its all well and good that the commentators praised us, but did they say we deserved to win? They had 52% of possession, we had 48%. We had 7 shots on target and they had 5. They had 6 corners, we had 3. The oly stat that really mattered is that they had two goals, we only had one. I thought for the first 20 minutes, they looked really dangerous. I thought overall, their skill level was better than ours. Their goal keeper commanded their area better and their attackers scored a higher % of goals to shots than we did.

The issue with Thomas was that he got it onto his left with only the keeper to beat and then basically passed it back to him. If you look at the two side by side. Thomas also had quite a bit of the corner of the goal to aim at. Frustratingly, he just hasn't got the end product. Which is why he is in league 1, rather than the Premiership. Reminds me of Bodin for us except Bodin could finish. He is great to watch and he puts in 110% effort at times. He does seem to scuff his shots for some reason.

It's an interesting debate and I'm happy to stand corrected but I genuinely havnt seen a team I thought were better than us this season. I think if I saw peterboro again then I may stand corrected as they really seem to be flying at the minute.

Clearly some fans see it different than others and that's ok. Football is about opinions. "but I genuinely havnt seen a team I thought were better than us this season" So we don't need to strengthen the squad?

There have been quite a few ive seen that were better than us this season, although nothing like Ipswich away (this season and last). Definitely a missed opportunity to get out of this league in the right direction, although we would get severely embarrassed at the level above imo

I personally feel that the better sides are hard to break down , don’t concede many goals and are clinical up front. We’re rarely all of those things in one match , when it does come together like v Pompey , Bolton and Charlton we do look one of the best sides but that only seems to happen in about a third of our matches. In my opinion the reason for that is because we’re not one of the best sides , we’re an average league 1 side. We’re just as likely in any given game to switch off defensively or miss loads of chances as we are click and everything goes right. The teams at the top are at the top because they’re better and they’re the the most consistent at keeping it out of their net and putting it in the opponents net.

You sense we're closer this season than we were last season, perhaps we can make another small step this window &/or in the summer, however weak the league is this season it's still, mainly, still the same to top 6 or so sides.

Played the entire top 6 (7 of the top 8) away from home already and 3 consecutive league matches at the Mem coming up, starting this weekend. Where we’ve lost only once this season.
I haven’t written the season off just yet.

We definitely are better than last season you’re right and at the beginning of the season I would have taken that as it’s progress. We’ve had decades of league 1 relegation scraps and league 2 football with very few seasons where we’ve been comfortable in league 1 so with the stadium progress as well I’m fairly happy with how things are. Perhaps league 1 is weaker than usual but we ain’t one of the best sides and we haven’t got a top 6 budget so it’s hardly a chance squandered as some are saying and if the club had increased the budget any more we may well have been over the financial ruling anyway. Barton has taken us forwards after the nightmare that was garner and Tisdale and i think Taylor comes across as the right man to keep that going but time will tell.
