The one thing the Gaschat optimists, pessimists, quiet watchers, jokers and WUMs can all agree on is there is a lot of work to do between now and the new season. Probably most importantly the back room staff/recruitment and coaching team for the long term sustainability of the club. But as far as players are concerned, we have 3 categories, imho:
1. Build the team around these guys for the coming years: Evans, Taylor, Thomas, G.Ward, Conteh, J.Ward
2. Young(ish) with a season to prove they are part of the future: Hoole, McCormick, Connolly, Gordon, Jones, Greenslade, Lawrence
3. Experienced heads with a season left Finley, Wilson, Hunt, Martin
The rest are loans or fringe players who will be gone (i expect). Would love to convince their parent clubs that Vale and Crama would benefit from at least another half season here for some continuity, but expect to see them in the Championship next season. Plus there is Josh Grant and Brown. They don't really fit anywhere. The former a squad player. The Latter could become part of 1 or be shipped on depending on which Jevani Brown we see. His game time could be very limited with the new loans.

Groups 2 and 3 (plus Hall or is he likely to be off?) seems to be our Second XI. We clearly need more in our starting XI. Could we line up like this next season?
J Ward
New Taylor New
Thomas Conteh G Ward New
Evans
New New

Aside from the players, I'd like to see progress on:
Backroom admin/running of the club Scouting and coaching set up The Quarters phase 2 Plans for the Mem rebuild phases 2A, 2B and 3
Busy few months, or not. 🤔

Sam Finley out of contract in June He’s one of the few I would offer a new deal. He’s reliable, hard working and a great injury record. Something that we’ve soon enough of in recent years.

I can see what you are saying; however, very little work can be done on the playing front during what is now a dead rubber (that's also accepting BRFC do not get pulled into a relegation battle) between now and May. Also some of the better players may not be happy and decide they want to leave in June, coupled with the crop of loanees going back to their parent clubs, could result in the usual perennial panic, and so it goes on. I believe the whole BRFC congregation, regardless of our own individual persuasion want the club to progress, I just hope Taylor and particularly the owners have a coherent plan. Only time will tell.

I am getting fed up with us always having another rebuild. Good we got some bodies in, but we have loads of loans that will disappear at the end of the season.
Let's face it there is no chance Vale will be with us next season. Cox is also a No. The new lads, probably not either.
Whilst I do accept MT would like to bring his own players in, if it means we again sell our better players I will be most annoyed. Not with MT, but the board.
I really think we could have done with making another permanent signing and done with integrating them.
Why wait for the summer, everyone is trying to sign players so not sure why given we probably knew Collins was off, we never had all our ducks in a row to sign players. I don't buy into the idea you get a better deal in the summer, you pick up players who are surplus and there is usually a reason for that.

Sam Finley out of contract in June Yes, but would hope we would offer an extension and he would want to stay.

Always a summer rebuild at this football club when there is no joined up thinking and succession plans in place.

I'd be happy if he did stay but also think it might be a good time to move on and go in different direction. He has some excellent moments in games/form but also some inconsistencies. Will be 32 in August and injuries are still a bit of a problem with him.

It’s a huge rebuild and unless we are very lucky stability is going to take a while meaning yet another season might end up getting written off by Christmas. We should have got 3-4 in during January to get the rebuild underway and get newbies bedded in and ready to go from day one of next season.

Seems a bit harsh to me!

I agree, another two new faces would have been worth a little premium imo, within reason of course and that may have been a big influence. We've had double figure new players for a few summers now (does anyone know the actual numbers?) and a bit of consolidation would have been better. Looking at the squad, it may be we will need fewer, perhaps 6 or 7 but they will need to be First XI ready and that won't be cheap.

love this thread, you all know that 75% of clubs have a rebuild every year don't you? I mean that why most of the transfer at L1 and below are free.
Sam Finley id sign in a heartbeat hes a decent experienced pro at this level, cleanish injury record and has been a Captain. If we signed another player with similar stats we'd all be lapping it up.
WRT loans take Cox, if we'd signed him permanently at the start of the season we'd all be lapping up he premier league and England U21 pedigree, reality is he's not for us. But we sign a Indonesia International and we all scoff at it, we need to give these players a chance even if they aren't ours. They need to be viewed as potential signings, Elkan wont make it at Ipswich especially if they go up, he'll obviously end up lower than that, these type of loans put us in the drivers seat for when they become available, just like Conner Taylor.

I know Rossiter is always injured - but doesn't he have a future here too? Not sure when his contract is up though.
