Yeah we definitely had an option to extend Martin's contract.. but then in the retained list post they had him down as a "contract offered" rather than an "extension triggered" or something. Suggested to me that we had opted to renegotiate from scratch? Perhaps we didn't want him on as much as we brought him in on and gave him a reduced terms offer Nope "The Club can confirm that options to extend contracts by one season have been triggered with Chris Martin and Jerry Lawrence. Striker Martin joined Rovers in September 2023 and has scored 16 goals in 38 appearances this season. Young midfielder Lawrence came through the youth ranks at Rovers and has been involved in four senior matchday squads this campaign. Bristol Rovers can also confirm that new contracts have been offered to Scott Sinclair, Jordan Rossiter and Luca Hoole, and further updates will be issued as and when appropriate." Yeah that is pretty clear!! www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/20242/may/bristol-rovers-issue-202324-retained-list/www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-retained-list-seven-9258016No idea where I got that from then **shrug**

No guarantees Martin will be as potent next season. Just look at David McGoldrick, ripped us to shreds last season and only managed about half his goal return in the league below this season. He was a lot more mobile than Martin too.

There's no guarantee with football full stop; Jamie White scored 36 goals in 69 games in the Conference before signing for us compared to 0 in 11 for us (0.52 GPG vs 0 GPG). John Marquis scored 68 goals in 202 League One games before signing for us compared to 13 in 71 for us (0.33 GPG vs 0.18 GPG). I could go on...

None of us really know if JCH had any real interest in moving back to Bristol, given that he seems to have messed Charlton about in the last window just as he did with us in the previous window. You can imagine JCH always wanted to join a potential top 6 side, rather than one which might have made it if everything went in their favour.

got to admire a fairly big transfer being done early by Rotherham - we're all waiting here looking at the 30th June for the first arrival. Now they have JCH, Tom Eaves and Sam Nombe in a similar mould, one of the others has to leave surely? We also have jordan Hugill

I was always surprised that Tom Eaves didn’t go on to have a top flight career as I really rated him when he was on,loan from Bolton way back . He was a good old fashioned centre forward and they are always useful to have around . I was told towards the end of last season that he has local family and tried for a move back here a while ago but we were not receptive at the time . Not sure how accurate that wa.
