I suppose it’s a tad annoying to miss out to a target in a straight choice between us and CAFC. But it’s a left back and without disrespecting that position I’ll not lose too much sleep over not getting what may have been our first choice for that position. If it keeps happening then I might but not yet. So I guess it gives us more money to spend on strikers where our priority has to be. And it does show that we’re looking to improve what we’ve had and not just settle for anything. A shame but perhaps not a real disaster.

You have to wonder if this was just another PR stunt by the owners, as what ambitious young player is ever going to choose us over Charlton, particularly if we're telling prospective signings finishing mid table is the aim.

Plenty of realistic good LB/LWB's out-of-contract across Europe this summer. 👍🏻

Don’t be silly. With all these alleged pr stunts we’ll end up signing someone who costs us a fortune. Gaschat conspiracy theories.

Should we pull out of any potential deals as soon as we find out a supposed ‘bigger’ club is also making an offer? Perhaps we should only target players that nobody else wants to save face and stop anyone of accusing us of publicity stunt offers? I’ll bow to your superior knowledge of previous PR stunts as I can’t recall any.

Yes I have thanks and it is a million miles from being a “crap” facility. eric .... I am saying the Mem is crap ...the Quarters is ok. Fair enough but that wasn’t clear - you said our crap facilities (plural) were likely to blame for failing to sign the player. We only have two facilities - the ground which is crap but which we have plans to improve and a good training ground where any new signing will be spending the majority of their working week.

Which L1 sides have better facilities, as when I looked at Oxford's and Exeter's recently they seemed no better? Our training facilities aren't a "game changer" as someone else put it, but they are adequate enough. They are at a similar level to those you mention, Oxford and Exeter and also those clubs I mentioned previously. But your implying they are L2 standard when the truth is they are L1 standard. Which is all Wael ever suggested would be built, it seems the Al Saaed's now have plans to improve the facilities at some point in the future.

Time will decide whether we lost out, plenty of options out there, UTG.

Have you forgotten about JCH already, Rotherham didn't seem to have any issues closing the deal and they are hardly going to be the biggest payers. Let's see how the summer progresses, as if we were going to spend a six figure sum on a full back I assume that money is still there to be spent on another player.

I do remember the JCH deal collapsing at the last minute - I found it very frustrating as I’d been aware for a number of weeks that he’d visited the quarters a few times for talks and assumed it was nailed on. You obviously have better info than the likes of me to know for certain it was nothing more than a publicity stunt. On your second point I agree that although it’s disappointing to miss out on a signing (presuming we have?) it’s positive we may have a transfer kitty as I worried we’d just be looking at kids on loan or freebies.

Plenty more fish in the sea. We can’t pull out of every player we are looking for as soon as someone else is interested, that would be daft.

They are on the level of Mansfield (Now L1), Colchester (recentlyish L1) Accrington Stanley (recently L1), Oxford (now Championship) and Exeter (L1). The original plans were actually scaled back and changed, and then when Joey arrived he pointed out further changes that needed to be made to bring the place up to standard. A purpose-built bespoke facility would have been nice, but it is what is...adequate enough for the level.

You may be right Topper but tbh, Charlton haven’t been that great for sometime and I’m not sure they’re any sleeping giant. As always time will tell. UTG! I missed the part where the club told us about the bid?? Wasn't it a Scottish paper that reported it?? So unless we have good contacts to there, it was hardly a publicity stunt. Are you saying we shouldn't attempt to sign any playing that Charlton or bigger clubs are trying to sign?? I was told that Conteh turned down bigger clubs, as he thought he could develope better under Taylor. Maybe we shouldn't have bothered trying to sign him?!

Run by fools Also gaschat: this news (none through club communications) was an intricate 4D PR stunt to fool our fan base into thinking we are willing to sign players.

As far as Conteh I've not seen it stated anywhere that he turned down bigger clubs, pretty certain in it was suggested we were the only club who met Grimsby's release clause.

The fact we haven't signed one single player and the existing players are also showing no signs of signing their new contracts, hardly suggests we're run by anything but useless fools. I hope Almondsbury Gas isn't walking his dog when we return to training, as both of them might be asked to take part in order to boost the numbers.

But you still believe they are clever enough to fake interest in players and get all sorts of media to report it ok. I bet there are 3 or more signed already you don’t know about. Chill, window opens ina week.

He turned down 2 offers from L1 clubs and Taylor was the deciding factor in him coming to the club.
