Have to say most have been really kind to the team on here. Personally i am a bit disappointed that we couldnt get a results against what was a complete Cardiff reserve team. After two games cant really be too individual on performances but defensively I would say there is a big improvement on last year but that apart we look totally devoid of any creativity. The squad seems to reflect the transfer activity which IMO has been great on the defence but needed some spending on the attack and the creative side. I thought we would play a pressure game but that does not appear to be the case with the main stroker being the only player that trys to on his own. Tell me if you think I am being harsh but I feel our expectations have really been lowered if we think a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff reserves is ok.

Tell me if you think I am being harsh but I feel our expectations have really been lowered if we think a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff reserves is ok. Don’t disagree with that. I too have been surprised at how certain players seem to have received quite high praise in comparison to what I’ve actually seen. However on the flip side of that, although I agree on it being Cardiff’s reserves and a game we really were or should’ve been capable of getting a result from, we too didn’t have our full strength side and most definitely weren’t at our strongest from an attacking / creative point of view. Saturday really wasn’t much of a gauge because Northampton made the game so direct and so scrappy, along with first day nerves, the heat and the kick off time which all played a part in the game lacking any fluidity or skill but there were moments and passages where we looked far more capable of creating chances and last night those players weren’t playing. Over the two games personally I’d take Lindsay over Grant, Hutchinson miles ahead of McCormick, Bilongo loooks more a threat as an attacking player than a defensive one and I’d take Sotirou or Martin over Sinclair so that’s a big difference in creativity / attacking right there.

First goal last night was Identical to the goal Bilongo scored against Northampton on Saturday.

If that was a Championship reserve side, it highlights the magnitude of the divide .

I too was a little disappointed considering the side Cardiff put out.
We looked okay defensively until they scored, but could easily have conceded 3 or 4 after that when we were having to commit more players forward.
We created very little, and that didn't improve even when we were chasing the game.
It wasn't awful and I'm not going to single out individuals at this early stage, but there is plenty we'll need to improve and I doubt many of the 6 who came into the team last night will be expecting to start again on Saturday after that.

I think the term reserve side is out of date now. It’s a squad game these days and they had players coming back from injury too. Think we looked better than last season but do need to shoot more if we are going to improve at the sharp end.

A little bit disappointed we didn’t have more of a go at them, especially having looked at Cardiff’s starting lineup, we always seem to take a long time to get into the game. But there was a few positives, Mola looks a great addition with his strength & willingness to go forward, Garrett looks a promising talent & young Kofi Shaw really does add something when he comes on & tries to make things happen with his nonstop harrowing & running. Will be interesting to see what starting lineup MT goes with at Rotherham now Sotiriou had a few minutes & Chris Martin is available again.

Oh my! It sounded much better with me not knowing the words!! UTG Yes - watching on TV I could hear a few words like this, and I think that chant is a common one with those lyrics so guessed. I’d just like to say I copy & pasted that off a Twitter post and didn’t spend my evening trying to work out the words…

Given it’s basically a new team I doubt many have overly high expectations but fans have always liked a team of triers and it’s only rovers 2nd game with changes to it. I think most are just being more realistic Steve.

Conner Taylor is given 8/10 in the Post ratings and Matt Taylor is quoted as saying he was our best player. Nooo a fit and on it Connor gets in my team, last night he was unfortunately neither, he will of course get there, but on last nights showing lethargic and not taking responsibility

What a load of bilge that is. Would hope we could come up with something about him as a player rather than a chant that belongs in the 80s about the size of his penis.

Thought we looked solid first half, but 2nd was pretty one way traffic and the deserved team won.
Whilst the defence looks very solid overall and I was impressed with Griffiths last night, I feel like we're missing an Evans type player and another striker.
Hopefully Martin fills that gap, but it feels a bit like last season, just the players look like they are really trying.
Thomas needs to be far more attacking on the wing though.
Whilst I understand the comments of it not being Cardiff's best team, it wasn't ours either. I agree with a bit of the 'squad' comment too. Don't forget Bonham was 3rd choice keeper at Championship Brentford and came in as one of the best keepers in the league.. The gap is big.

Fair result from what I could see on sky+..
Only one group of supporters could be heard. A fair result and no complaints.
Nice to see new striker off the bench getting some minutes, as well as Kofi....I would like to see more inclusion of our young exploit.
I couldn't get excited about last night match and we now move on to Saturday...

Conner Taylor is given 8/10 in the Post ratings and Matt Taylor is quoted as saying he was our best player. Where they were watching a different game as Cardiff could have had 5 or 6 goals if JG hadn't pulled off some decent saves. Probably only Garrett & Mola, along with JG, had good games. the rest were average at best, Shaw showed the attacking players up with us cameo performance.
