I’m not underplaying his importance and his contributions went beyond just goals and assists but you’re in danger of overegging the importance a little. Evans only scored 4 league goals from open play. He’s thought of as a set piece expert but only scored one league goal from 16 attempts from a free kick. He’s gone now. We lost 12 goal contributions. We have signed Soterio and Hutchinson who had 39 (16 and 23) league goal contributions between them. Ones been injured and ones played one game! To say we haven’t or can’t replace him is premature. Stats can be massively misleading. As a whole Evans was one of the best midfielders in league one. If he did a terrific piece of skill played it to Collins who then crossed for us to score. Evans gets nothing In the stats column. People arguing 500k is a fair enough price for one of the top midfielders in league one need to give their heads a wobble. In today's market that is pants. No question.

Evo said he didn't want to join a Championship side and you can't just guess that Brum would have been interested or, even if they were, Evo would have considered joining them. If Huddersfield said take their offer or they'll sign another CM what are the owners supposed to do say "do one" then be stuck with nobody wanting to sign him when there's not many L1 clubs who are prepared to pay £500K for a CM, probably just Huddersfield, Brum & Bolton and they don't seem to be spending big this window. If Brum came in with a decent offer I'm willing to put my house on it Evo would have been interested in joining them. They are a huge club , are paying huge wages and transfer fees now and are clearly intent on going places.

Evans the 20th best performing player in the whole of League One last season according to Opta. 3rd best for xA Expected Assists, only behind Burrows and Mason-Clark. xG on target (xGOT) in the top 87% percentile ranking, with Successful Passes in the top 98.1% percentile ranking, Tackles Won in the top 96.3% percentile ranking, Duels Won in the top 90.7% ranking, with Interceptions, Blocks and Recoveries all in the top 92% or higher. Outstanding season. Outstanding player.

Regarding the Promise song. I know a player who had a similar song about him years ago, and that he hated it as a racist trope. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11604099/amp/Leeds-urge-fans-change-lyrics-chant-Wilfried-Gnonto.htmlThis article is about Gnonto but also touches on other recent cases involving songs about Diallo and Lukaku. Another era but I know for a fact that Carl Saunders hated being called Billy Ocean. It seems some people never learn. The Fernando Torres lyrics were: His Armband proved he was a red, Torres! Torres! You'll Never Walk Alone it said, Torres! Torres! We bought the lad from sunny Spain, He gets the ball he scores again, Fernando Torres! Liverpool's number 9! Surely we can write something similarly supportive and non-offensive about Omochere. Could start something like: He came from Dublin town to join the Gas, the Gas, He likes to dump defenders on their ass, their ass, But I’m sure there is someone more creative than me who can do better.

Yeah I couldn’t have been much clearer :-
“his contributions went beyond just goals and assists“
I was responding to the poster who said we couldn’t replace his goals / contributions and that, that, normally led to relegation.
As a point of interest do you think Sotiriou and Hutchinson didn’t do anything that the stats missed either? I’m trying to go like for like in the argument that yes he’ll be missed but that saying he hasn’t or couldn’t be replaced is premature.

I have to be honest it genuinely baffles me that some on here think he’s not that all that, he’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen play for us. Technically a fantastic player but I loved the fact he was very tenacious and worked extremely hard for the team, a combination that is rare to find in attacking midfielders. We had our pants pulled down It also baffled me how posters think our owners just sell players for the first offer they receive, the fact is the offer we received from Huddersfield was the best we were going to get this summer and if we'd rejected it then we would have probably had to sell him for substantially less in January. Hopefully we've included some decent promotion clauses etc included so we'll be looking at upto a £1m if Huddersfield get promoted. I don’t think/assume the board did that if you meant that directly at me. I think it would of been difficult to get more than 750k with 12 months left on his deal. I do think £1million for both Collins & Evans is a little bit of a light figure considering how key they were for us for a little while. But I guess that’s the cycle of players, we are yet to see this board sell a player for high value with a long term deal so I think it’s unfair to judge fully at this stage.

pretty sure 60%+ of the posters that moaned to * about Collins and Evans over the past year or so are the same ones using the "pants pulled down" moan.

I like both Sotiriou and Hutchinson, but with someone like Hutchinson I thought he would have been a good addition to come in alongside Evans, as the added pressure of being first choice and the one to replace the Evans contributions is a big ask having stepped up a level. However, I do think he is a good player and has the potential to do well at the level in time, but we will need to be patient and Hutchinson might take some time adapting, as is the case with others like Micah Anthony and Bilongo etc. Decent numbers for Sotiriou last season, but a squad option for me. Losing one of the top midfielders in the division in Evans and the League One Player of the Year in Collins for what is peanuts (relatively speaking) in the current market is galling, but the board were happy to accept the derisory offers and that is that. To a certain extent the pressure will be on the likes of Hutchinson and Sotiriou to perform (and of course Chris Martin), because I don't really see many goal/assist contributions from the defensive minded midfielders we've brought in and other than Chris Martin and Scott Sinclair, nobody really has a proven record at this level or above, and Sinclair hasn't exactly been setting the division alight since he joined. With Omochere adapting to more of a central role, hopefully Chris Martin has his shooting boots on again, because his contribution is going to be vital again.

Christ. What a load of bilge that is. Would hope we could come up with something about him as a player rather than a chant that belongs in the 80s about the size of his penis. Agreed that is atrocious, I really hope that doesn’t catch on and our fans are discerning enough to realise it’s stereotypical, crass and not even remotely funny. If I was him I’d think seriously about whether I’d want to play for a fanbase who think that’s a good song to sing about me. Let’s bury this chant Gasheads. The song says everything about the people who sang it and nothing about the new player. It's incredible how 10 years of free education has had such little effect on the minds of certain people.

Totally agree with this, it takes time for players to adjust. Just like it did for both Evans and Collins when they first joined. The pro active approach would of been to get players in last season to play alongside, then you have a kind of conveyor belt of talent/players. I presume the reason why we have handed out longer contracts is in hope the new players will just get better and better. I get the players effort, the defence looks stronger, we just need to see that bit of quality now and start creating more chances.
