If we sack Taylor then we need to bring in a firefighter type in the short term rather than a long term project. If things get really desperate then there’s no harm bringing in a Holloway type. I don’t think we’re quite at that stage yet though. Not sure after half a dozen games we need a firefighter surely that's a January type appointment?

Slim pickings on the free managers that will actually want to come to a mid league 1 club. I doubt anyone could get rid of the curse of us playing in this league. All they need to do is keep us in this league for 2 or 3 seasons! What other mid table L1 clubs spent like we did in the summer and have both a decent fan base and training ground?

BG MK2, who'll probably be in a state of shock when he sees how we operate in the background? Like i said, i dont think he would but don't ask don't get etc. They don't all turn into Ben Garner. In the extreme Kieran McKenna proves it can be done, albeit Ipswich obviously more setup than we are. But even like Michael Skubala at Lincoln, sure we'd all be happy with where they are currently. Understand that people will want a more sure thing with some previous experience. But personally I'd rather see us go out and take a chance on a hungry up-and-comer. Rather than cycle through the same old names that always get linked and always seem to be available for a certain reason.

You just sense Rovers are run so poorly that the club need to appoint somebody who is streetwise, we hardly seem to be run like Lincoln, whether the owners are brave enough to appoint somebody like that is another matter.

At least if we bought in Ollie we’d get some interview entertainment

Realistically what sort of candidates are you expecting next then? No idea, I just hope it's better than a non league manager with no prior league managerial experience, you've always said MT's out of his depth as he only managed Exeter in L1 but now you're suggesting we appoint a non league manager. Personally I'd try and get somebody like Ryan Lowe, who's managed in L1 and also knows how a club of our size operates. Ryan Lowe is a good shout, as is the previous suggestion from someone of Stephen Schumacher. However, would they be interested ? I'm not sure. Certainly names George Friend should be considering and sounding out in the background. It would be nice to be ambitious and target proven if the right candidate is out there and the owners are willing to spend, but I suspect the list of quality realistic candidates won't be that extensive. I like the job Damien Duff has been doing over in Ireland with Shelbourne and he'd also be one I'd be interested in talking to if I was Friend, but I suspect he'll be a man in demand once the League of Ireland season is over and doubtful he'd come here. As for Rob Elliot, early days for him, but the football and results he is producing at Gateshead are impressive, so he would definitely be one worth looking into and evaluating if he'd be the right fit or not. Having previously briefly been in a DoF role himself, he know what working in such a structure involves too. Others doing a good job in the National League like Kev Maher, Dean Brennan and Adam Hinshelwood should also be considered.

Little hope of us getting him I’d guess.

Anyway , good news , Sheeds losing in South Wales

We need a manager who’s brave enough to pass the bloody ball and use the talent we have in the squad not one that wants to continues trying to eke out clean sheets with a slow 1pt progression every other week crawling out way to 52 points and 20th!! Jesus no wonder some of you people are happy with what you see each week I disagree, if that were true he’d take us back to basics. One of Taylor’s biggest problems is that he doesn’t know his best team and is too reactionary with his changes, his management actually reminds me of Gareth Southgate.

I think Lowe might end up dropping into League 1, so he could potentially be an option. One of the reasons he left Plymouth, was to go back up north though. But I'm sure the extra money, would have played a part as well!

What and going back to 442 and picking as an experienced a team as he could and giving his players “a comfort blanket” of being able to “put the ball as far away from their goal as possible” isn’t? 😳🤦♂️

Like I said on another thread , when Barton was sacked the owners said it was because of poor results, well since Taylor took over results have got worse, so how can they justify keeping him. I would perhaps replace him with Holloway as caretaker to boost moral, but would like to see Glen Whelan offered the job, played over 600 games across all divisions, over 90 times for his country, was coach and player here, knows the club well and is now a fully qualified coach at Wigan. He has a wealth of experience in the game and is probably ready for management.

I’m done with Matt Taylor after reading this :- For me that’s throwing your players under the bus by stealth. its insulting to each one of the players on the bench who have worked so hard and been through so much to get to where they are in their careers, to have a manager who barely knows some of them, question their mentality or mental strength so publicly and use it as an excuse to cover his own insecurities and fears is just cowardice in itself. Good manages use the fact they’re young and fearless (providing they’re ready) to go out and he encourages them to play with no fear and gives them the confidence to trust their ability. Matt Taylor has just made it a bigger issue than he ever needed to. Right from the start of pre season he’s done the same.

MT has given them chances but they've been mainly woeful, perhaps it is MT or perhaps they can't just step up to the pressures of L1 football in just a short period of time, as I've said before if it's so easy to just sign youngsters and expect them to immediately perform to L1 level why do most clubs have a decent mixture of youth and experience. Yesterday's subs all had points to prove but apart from Hunt they all went missing.

How do you know Holloway would boost moral, bringing in a football dinosaur who hasn't managed for 4 years may have the opposite effect on a young squad? As far as Whelan you sense he didn't leave on the best terms and as recently got a coaching job at Wigan, so why would he want to return and is he even ready for management anyway, getting Mangan back makes more sense but that's just as unlikely.
