We play 5 across the middle. It's not too much to ask for one of the CMs to get himself in the box once in a while is it? Maybe his presence at 6 foot plus might occupy one of the defenders that would otherwise be battling our forwards.

This isn't a knee jerk reaction bit something we have struggled with for years, including last season in the Conference where a lack of goals and the ability to create chances ultimately cost us the title. We could have the best strikers in the world and they wouldn't score as they are being provided with nothing from midfield. Now it would appear that DC has learnt nothing from the last time he managed at this level. Goals win games. The strikers we have will score if you give them the opportunities. The tone of the game was set after 20 secs today. Lines first pass went straight to an opponent. The next pass saw Parkes put it straight into the crowd. But what has baffled me was his post match interview saying that we need to take our chances. What chances. Apart from Lines free kick and Parkes free header what did we create. We have so far beaten three very poor sides in Luton, Yeovil and Barnet. It isn't a striker we need and how much we arr missing Monkhouse is quite staggering Missing monkhouse hahahahaahhahahhahaha sorry ahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

People stop fretting, we are one or two players from being a side that could kick butt in this division. If Portsmouth are the best side we have faced then we need to be a little bit more confident in ourselves. We need to be brave enough to try that killer pass. Patience, we have faced some good sides recently and not been to far off turning them over. I will take a season of acclimatising for us to tear this division apart. As for the board we are, maybe, being held back by a Chairman's ego from moving forward. At the end of the day we will prevail. The light is at the end of the tunnel we just have to go and switch it on.

How can anybody post we don't need to worry unless they don't actually Rovers at the Mem, apart from Barnet we've created virtually zero chances in 3 of the 4 home games, apart from a couple of Lines free kicks and Parkes headers? I distinctly remember 2 very astute through balls in the first half that any decent striker would have converted. However Easter faced about and lost the ball on both occasions. I thought the Portsmouth defence looked pretty vulnerable at times, no more so than when Easter hit the post. small margins I think, because if that had gone in we would probably have won. I agree reed with many other posters, what we need is a big, hard forward to beat the opposing defence about and let them know they're in a game. At the moment we're just too light weight and nice.

I've been worried for over three years now! I'll raise you 50 on that. Never been a smooth ride in my lifetime - it goes with the territory. Still love it though. UTG

In the 4 games we've played against last season's Div 2 clubs at the Mem we've scored 1 goal, that's a shocking stat. We need to get a decent CF and winger now not in a month or two when all last season's confidence has been sapped away.

Actually, we put about 15-20 crosses into the box yesterday from wide positions. However they were only contested by 2 strikers at most with our midfield nowhere to be seen as they were too deep. We had 2 set pieces on the right in the second half and Darrell was screaming at Lines to leave them to someone else and get himself in the box. For some reason Chris Lines does not like getting in the box for aerial chances, unless anybody can remember a single time he did this yesterday? Perhaps if we had a decent CF like Pompey's we wouldn't have to worry about Lines being the next Alan Shearer? Spot on!

It's well known that joe has some real issues with Lines, I believe that even if he was replaced with Messi it wouldn't solve all our problems.

For some reason Chris Lines does not like getting in the box for aerial chances, unless anybody can remember a single time he did this yesterday? I'm sure you're right but almost all those crosses were from the deep - easier for big defenders to attack. Our goal came from a cross near the by-line - defenders don't like those. The trouble is we don't have the creativity out wide where a wide man will try and go on the outside of a full back and pull a ball back. We need a Carayol type player on both flanks - then we might see more shots on target ( only 1 v Accy and only 2 v Pompey) and maybe more goals. The second point - we have a team all over the pitch which is poor in the air - especially Parkes and Lines; I'd only say that Sinclair and Lockyer are good in the air for their height. I certainly aint expecting us to score many headers this season that's for sure. UTG !

This time last year was a time to be worried, as was the year before that.
This is simply a slight wobble in and amongst a time to be glad that we are back in the football league and have a very good manager at long last!
As somebody else has also mentioned today, we have so far played many of the top 8 or so including Orient, Portsmouth, Northampton and Plymouth. All of those will be there or there abouts come May, now when you consider we have 10 points from 9 games even including the above, is it really that much of a concern just yet? I will start to worry when we are losing to teams at the other end of the league. That hasn't happened yet.
He will get things right, of that I am sure. I have seen enough in the 4 games that I have seen this season (inc Orient and Northampton) to suggest that we have a good enough team o compete at this level.
Leadbitter's injury came at a terrible time for us, we had just figured out the best formation and line up for this team and leadbitter was probably the most important piece of that jigsaw. Had he stayed fit I honestly feel that we would be in the top 5 at the moment. Barnet were poor, but we were exceptional that day! Allen even said so himself (best team we have played this season I believe what what he said).
Unfortunately he got injured in that very game to be replaced by Little in the next game. Well that didn't really work out and to be honest, I don't think we have really recovered properly yet.
I wasn't there Saturday so I can't comment, but weren't terrible at Orient as some have said, certainly weren't great mind you! But we weren't terrible. Now Northampton, then we were terrible!!! But thankfully we have banished that sort of performance.
If we can get Leadbitter back fit and perhaps add 1 more up top we will be just fine this season. Play off area I would expect.
With that lot over the river looking already as if they are heading back to league 1 and us showing glimpses that we have the potential to join them, is it really a time to be worried?

So they are going down and we can go up? In September. Agree with most of it but all this talk of play offs and promotion is baffling. We've lost over half of our games!

I said it's perhaps a little unfair to place to much judgement on Saturday. They are a very good team and we have just got our preferred team back out.
Honestly feel from here on in we will get back on it.

Whilst I very highly doubt we'll go down, I don't know where these glimpses have come from that we'll be playing the sh** next season? We're not even in October, a lot can and will change.

Well, it is simple really.
They are rock bottom of their league.
If we can get our house in order and (as I have said above) I absolutely believe we cam, the we have every chance of being fighting at the right end of the league come May.
I don't know much about that lot in terms of performance, so have purely based my opinion on their potential league standing on where they sit now.
