I heard last week of a Latvian under 21 international midfielder/striker coming to England looking for a club,so going into the ground yesterday I saw Ian Holtby and Marcus Stewart and started to tell them of the player,i was given the brush off and told to get the player to write to the club asking for a trial, like he is going to do that.
It strikes me that a) the club aren't interested in new players
and b) definitely not interested in recommendations from anyone outside of the inner circle.
This is not the first time over the years have recommended a player to the club and have been ignored, but it will definitely be the last

No, we should have signed him up on a 3 1/2 year contract forthwith.

Wouldn't the approach suggested be the normal one Padstow? As a scout you must have been told this a hundred times.
You might have got a better reaction if it wasn't on the biggest match day of the season. I suspect messers Holtby and Stewart were rather busy and had other things on their mind.
If you believe in the Latvia, I would suggest phoning or writing to the club to get him a trial, or get some video to the club of him playing.etc.

If you have an issue with the thickness of your gravy, he's definitely your man but I'm not sure how much much input he has on the playing side. I think the club probably gets a lot of tip offs from supporters and inevitably most will be a waste of time e.g. proud dad seeing junior through rose tinted specs and thinking he's the mutt's nuts. If you're a scout (and they know this) you'd expect them to take an interest though.

Perhaps they don't value your opinion That is their prerogative but managers from bigger clubs than Rovers have employed me to look at teams/players and taken my comments on board, but hey ho they can do as they please. As for the ridiculous comment about a contract I was only suggesting they give him a trial
