Blimey you can tell it’s the boring season Chris Lines, Harry Anderson and Akinde. If Friend can’t do better we will be in serious trouble next season. UTG I’m sure he will. UTG!

Too many doomongers on here! No one knows what will happen before it happens. We are about to start a recruitment process with a new team of staff and I can completely understand everyone’s concern about next season. But just like the past 50/60 seasons we have to wait and see who we recruit. I’ve got to be optimistic and trust those to build a decent squad ready for August. It’s the way it’s been for years. The big difference now is that we have forums for people refresh 20 times a day to catch up with nothing happening. People on here demand something to happen and if it doesn’t happen it must be bad news. It’s almost as if it’s got to be either fantastic or awful when in truth we will be average, just like this season.

Yes, that’s a very good example. I doubt OC would have downed sticks like so many did in ‘21 and this season gone. What is it they say? Treat people the way you’d like to be treated. Football is a very different matter I know but how you treat people is relevant in every aspect of business. Including football. UTG! Notice that Ollie is out of contract having led Mansfield to promotion. I bet he's not on anyone's radar, but I'd definitely welcome OC back to the Mem.
Alfie Kilgour is still under contract, but JJ O'Toole has been released. WYHHB?
Yes, possibly a good call. I guess it depends on where he wants to live at this stage. I bet DC at Cheltenham will have at least a conversation with him to see his intentions. UTG!

It's also worth noting the clubs treatment of Ollie Clarke. 271 appearances for the club, two time player of the year, over a decade service and he was given a derisory contract offer and no goodbye. I don't really think we can get too uppity about the Lockyer situation after the way the club treated Clarke. Yes, that’s a very good example. I doubt OC would have downed sticks like so many did in ‘21 and this season gone. What is it they say? Treat people the way you’d like to be treated. Irrespective of what fans said, in the two years before he left he was clearly an important part of the team and plenty good enough and seeing him go for nothing was poor. Yet tbf to the club we are told that they offered to renew his contract on several occasions but he was determined to go. We got nothing. MT signed a short term deal and we got £300k as opposed to £0 and MT gets pelters every time. TL, I think, had a long term plan which he stuck to and we lost out. For clarity I loved TLs time with us and have admired his climb up the leagues and have great sympathy for what’s happened but I’ve often shaken my head at the comparison of our treatment of both players. And before anyone comes back at me I do understand the anger over those few days in Jan ‘17 and who he went to. UTG! A rare example of a footballer having a brain! Yes, probably. UTG!

I think when you look that Taylor, Bodin, Harrison and Lockyer all left for less than what we got for just Barry in 1998 it's pretty damning. To be fair, Taylor/Bodin/Harrison didn't play at the level that Barry Hayles did. Lockyer, we so messed up there. No fee and some fans were saying he wasn't good enough for us. A steady decline, maybe 18th next season? Then league 2, artist impressions of the new East stand, local objections, planning delays, East stand development put on hold temporarily for 5 years while we bring in new CEO or owner, a man in suit who’s brother had something to do with building the new Wembley, sacking the same 6 months later about the time I celebrate god willing my 70th birthday, I’m 63 now, a second spell in non league, Wael back in charge with brave new plans, unable to speak about due to confidentiality agreements Have I missed anything? You old cynic! ☹️ It is what it is, and hasn’t changed greatly in 55 years. UTG!

What about 1974? But if it’s excitement you want I guess it’s the 7-0 but the ‘74 was great. It’s very exciting when from the first match in August you know you’re going up! Not going to happen like that anytime soon. ☹️ UTG! 74 was great and probably my favourite Rovers team. However the nil nil draw at Southend to confirm promotion doesn’t rank with these other games tbh. No, you’re right of course. As a match not a patch on D/R or the Scunthorpe match. But the whole season was very exciting watching the best team in the league! UTG!

That must be the first time in a while right? Especially as Rotherham have been yoyo-ing so much. It shows the level of investment you need at the Championship though, Plymouth spent a solid amount of money under their American owners and they only just stayed up. Kinda worrying Ipswich deserve many of the plaudits they're getting, absolutely superb what they've done. But tbf, their squad by the end of L1 was probably a solid Championship team, they were signing players for extreme L1 money. Still, to get promoted on that is massively impressive From The Times this morning: Last season FGR were above Ipswich when the teams met in L1in August 22 but next season Ipswich will be in the Premier League and FGR will be a non league club. Almost unbelievable isn’t it? Blimey! That’s some turn around. A timely reminder as The Equaliser said. UTG!

Liked the look of Bryant Bilongo on loan at Ebbsfleet second half of this season. Attacking left-back who could make a good option for next season should Gordon depart. Middlesbrough's use of London as a scouting area has proven to be successful in recent years with the likes of Isaiah Jones and the promising Pharrell Willis being unearthed as well as our own Conteh. Would like to see us use similar methods should the development squad actually return. Didn’t we have some kind of ‘London base ‘ a few years ago, prior to Covid? Istr a thread on here about Wael opening a base and team in the London area. Great idea if any club has the support to give any players a platform to perform but without that perhaps a pointless exercise. Sadly. If you're intending to do that then you need to do it properly. Not a half-arsed approach to it just to placate others or as an PR exercise etc. UTG!

Lys mousset formerly of Bournemouth only 28 he’s free Having seen him play for AFCB years ago before he went to Sheffield U I’d say a big no. Little motivation, usually looked uninterested and if Eddie H couldn’t get a tune out of him….. But I also say about not judging players from previous experience and he looked far better at Sheffield U. But I’d still say no knowing we need some pace in our strikers. Let’s go for players on their way up showing the attributes we need which I hope our scouting team are aware of. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏽 UTG!

And with regard to the changes at Wycombe: Someone coming in to replace the Couhigs with their complete blessing. They’ve been looking for investment and have found someone who comes in and ensures he immediately employs a CEO (or equivalent) to run the football side. If true, it’s sounds a good move for Wycombe. Grrr. I hate it! 😉

Does anybody seriously still take any notice of what SwissGas posts, he's been forecasting our demise for years, probably ever since he left the Board, but we're still surviving. Posters keep suggesting that the loan for the stand was used to pay for day to day running costs but is there any real proof that was the case or is it another forum fact with zero proof? Don’t be daft Topper. I get it that you perhaps don’t like him but Swiss hasn’t been ‘forecasting our demise for years’. He has warned that Wael didn’t really have the business expertise to run a football club and didn’t listen to those experts who he did employ for a short time and made poor business decisions which left us in that perilous position last year. And let’s be fair, he’s not saying anything that many, many posters haven’t been saying over the past year about the lack of football knowledge of our new owners. He’s been saying the same. I hope the birds aren’t coming home to roost! I don’t particularly like the message but I won’t blame the messenger. I’m sure Swiss doesn’t need me to speak for him but I think he’s been banned from here so he can’t really reply. Can he? I obviously don’t know why he was banned and I don’t need to know. I hope it wasn’t for questioning some of Wael’s decisions. Because after 8 years it’s hard to see the legacy of that time apart from the year on year growth in overspending and debt. And of course the training gro7nd for balance! UTG!

Hope I'm proved wrong but I have no co fidence in MT, and I still belive co.e August none of us will.be excited by any of his prospective signings. I just have a really bad feeling! I have a bad feeling when I go to the dentist or the hospital not about us. Whatever will be will be. With us most close seasons are about hoping the manager gets it right. No difference now. We’ve just had two decent seasons consolidating our place in League 1 which has been as good as it gets this century. So I’m pretty upbeat. Some players upped sticks and more or less gave up in February so it’s been a tough time for fans and MT. He’s come through a hard time and has got rid of some of those players who didn’t want to be here. Now we start again. Have a good summer ‘73. 😀 UTG!

Mixed message isn’t it, reduced budget whilst almost matching our transfer fee record a few months ago Or alternatively, looking to use the budget we have better than we have in the past perhaps? Signings more focused on players who will definitely play and make a difference. Less waste perhaps. Or even buy strikers? 😉 UTG!

And we’re off…..will he? Won’t he? I think the jury’s out for me as to whether he’s championship class, that’s a tough division. We are a selling club of course our better players are going to go, usually sooner than later, gone past caring now. Football has no loyalty anymore, Harold J Geoff Bradford etc it’s wam bam and thank you on instagram as they go off holding a cashier cheque aloft, bye gasheads thanks for the memories, next minute holding aloft the new shirt with the manager and chairman by their side. One thing I’m sure is the players coming in need to be hungry and proud to play for us not more mercenaries or un tried youth players. Totally unfair to compare 1950’s players with today’s players in my opinion. The world has changed beyond recognition since then. Whatever happens I will wish Antony all the best in his future, I’d like to think we get a large sum for him but somehow can’t see us getting as much as hoped, it’s how we roll. And of course the 50s also had the maximum wage so it didn’t really pay people to move around. You wouldn’t get any more playing in Division 1 than you may in Division 3 South. I’m sure some did but no real incentive then to move. UTG! edit: sorry ash….you beat me to it.

You could be right but alongside better players than he’s had this season…… Whatever, I’m sure GF will be aware as would MT. Not that it’s important or relevant but 10 years ago we signed a FGR player, similar position, who couldn’t get in their National League side and that didn’t go too badly! UTG! There is a player in Charlie McCann if someone can unlock his potential. In hindsight he made a poor career choice moving to FGR, but he does have ability. Came through the ranks at Manchester United before moving to Rangers for a fee that could have risen to about £800k and then won their academy player of the year award. I agree. Something was seriously wrong with FGR for two years. Vince made some horrendous managerial decisions which make Wael look good! And their form fell off a cliff for one season and 45 games. But there will be some decent players there who, with better players around them, could do a very good job for us. From your experience pirate what forwards are realistic targets for us this summer? Presuming Chris M stays which looks likely now. UTG!

Exeter supporters are commenting on the loss of "two of their own". Both players are seen as really great lads who were given their start by "Matty". They are both regarded as solid team players. Interestingly, there are frequent comments from ECFC supporters about how they would welcome Jevani Brown back. The most striking comment appeared in a player thread. It might be worth pondering for some posters. Do you really think that Matt Taylor is the sort of manager who is "happy to be bumbling along in mid table" ? Quite clearly you were completely blind to his highly competitive nature as both a player and manager whilst with us ! Thanks Sir Trevor. It’s good to have a different pov compared to the meltdown going on in the retained thread. It’s not exactly embarrassing but enough to make you shake your head and wonder about people!! Not that I particularly worry about what other clubs think but they must think that we’re a self-entitled lot when I never thought we were. But I don’t think GC defines BRFC fans! 👍 UTG!

Kevin Phillips I think will be a decent manager, not sure why Hartlepool dont want to keep him though Yes, a strange one. From talking to a Hartlepool fan there were some things happening behind the scenes. The owner still hasn’t sold the club after being on the market for a year or so. Might have something to do with it. UTG!
