I’ve got to be honest I’ve never liked Barton for off the pitch reasons but I still don’t think there’s footballing merit to get rid of him yet. Injuries are hampering us and we don’t quite have the cutting edge up front to convert the chances we are creating. This has probably damaged our confidence, resulting in a sub par performance tonight. We’ve got home games coming up and a few games in hand. Marquis and Hunt will hopefully be back from injury, Woods will return from his suspension, which will improve the squad massively. Maybe Barton will give Belly another chance to redeem himself as well. Re-assess closer to January, budgets and expectations are high for this season so clearly being 18th in the league won’t be acceptable by then, but there is still plenty of this season left to turn things around. Tbf Axe, those are all good points regarding the squad. But do we have a manager capable of doing anything with them? I haven't seen evidence of it. No plan B - barely a plan A. Zero game management ability. Poor subs. The list goes on. A decent manager and I'd have faith something could be salvaged when we get those players back. But I really cannot see Barton doing anything worthwhile with them I'm similarly frustrated by the tactical decisions, selections and game management that we've had so far this season RD. The case is certainly building against him.
I'm just trying to remove my dislike of the man and view him like any other manager who's been in charge of this club.
We've had two good seasons of achieving promotion and consolidating ourselves in the division above.
Do I think he's the messiah who's going to sort out all his shortcomings and instigate a miraculous turn around towards the top end of the table? Probably not.
However IMO he's earnt the right to have more time to try and turn this squad around. Tonight was probably the first game I've seen us in this season, where the football on display was poor.

Come on mate, it’s a blatant red, he leads with his arm. Ref got it spot on. Agreed, I didn’t watch today, so when reading the reaction in the thread to it I thought it would be a soft one. Seeing the highlights, I’m surprised anyone is disputing that red.

Following players contracts expire Summer 2024: James Belshaw - Thanks and best of luck. Prob goes JanLewis Gordon - 12 month extension only unless big improvements seenLuca Hoole - lock down for 3 yearsGoerge Friend - no idea, too little time. Prob let expire if fitness doesnt improveJames Gibbons - disappointing. Decent back up but we can do betterJordan Rossiter - Hasnt worked out, unless something changes, have to let him go unfortunately.Josh Grant - 3 year dealSam Finley - maybe 12 monthsScott Sinclair - want to see more of Scott this season. 12 months more I thinkJohn Marquis - Not sure. Like him, but at some point he'll look for more playing timeHarvey Greenslade - Spening lots of time at the gym going by his insta! Looks to have bulked up. Would like to see him given a chance and a new dealAny players you think need tying down to a new deal ASAP, before Jan window? For me: Marquis, Hoole & Gordon Would look to keep Greenslade, Grant, Finley, Sinclair (player coach) on our terms but not overly fussed. Belshaw, Friend, Gibbons, Rossiter I would definitely move on Thoughts? Agree on the most part, but I'd only give Grant one or two years at most, and I'd offer Marquis another one year deal if we're still in this division.

I think it’s time to lock the thread now. The Barton stuff is going round in circles and the rest has veered off into a tangent about politics.
Feel free to carry on the Israel-Palestine conversation in the general chat.

Jack Hunt about city: I had some brilliant years there and had a good relationship with the fans. Get the flamethrower or at the very least transfer list him immediately. If he keeps up his good form and keeps scoring goals, I couldn’t care less.

Bogey side if there ever was one can't remember us ever beating Posh. Not to be that guy but we did beat them at home last season. Haven’t beaten them away in years though.

I'm not bothered about the South West Stand being small or odd looking at all.
I'm just happy that we're able to maximise every section of the ground possible to increase the capacity. It looks better than what was there before.
You look at Exeter where they've built a new stand that only runs half the length of the pitch and that looks way worse IMO.

In case you didn’t know Topper, loans have to be paid back. Who’s paying it back? It’s not our record profits that’s for sure. We’re lucky to have Wael. It certainly won't be Bristol City Council or UK Govt. paying back the loan. I think we’re all on the same page with that one.

I don't think Wael's the one stumping up the cash nowadays. Still, someone is paying for it, and it's not coming from public funds. I thought the club had taken out a loan with Nationwide Finance to build the stand? In case you didn’t know Topper, loans have to be paid back. Who’s paying it back? It’s not our record profits that’s for sure. We’re lucky to have Wael.

Someone has left the building recently but not communicated to the fans yet, will surprise a few. Can’t imagine it’s anyone on the footballing staff given that JB took his interview today and Andy Mangan was on the training video as well. Can’t think of anyone who would ‘surprise a few’ bar Gorringe himself. Unless it’s the Twitter guy because Twitter is proper quiet right now. Eddie Jennings would be my immediate guess.

It will have a slightly larger capacity than the Thatchers terrace, which is weird to think about. What’s the capacity in the Thatchers end now 3200 ? Didn’t we used to get 4k in there a while back before SAG limited things ? It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a bit below 3000 these days. We’ve had a few sell outs recently where it has looked a little emptier than it used to be.

The Barnet stand holds 1900 & found this out about the Woking stand ( Leslie Gosden) which holds around 2000. Leslie Gosden Stand[edit] The main stand, called the Leslie Gosden Stand, is the tallest structure on the ground. It has entirely covered seating. The stand was built in 1995[3] using financing from Woking Borough Council[3][4] and represented the first of four phases of development.[4] And our new south/southwest stand will hold 3400 (?) . So will be at least a quarter bigger than those in the pictures. It will have a slightly larger capacity than the Thatchers terrace, which is weird to think about.
