The perfect reason why we should have tried harder not to plummet into non-league in the first place! Players won't want to come here for 5th tier football, and those that do come leaves you wondering why they did come; was it money? The days of us being an attractive stepping stone onto bigger things have sadly gone (Hayles, Gareth Taylor, Ellington, Martyn, Agogo, Lambert etc - even Carayol!).

Blimey one player's turned us down, it's not the end of the world!! Leadbitter & Blisset have both joined this season I assume both in the hope of bigger things to come?

I meant promising players from a higher division. ok, my examples were poor as most were from lower lges at the time. I should have used examples such as Billy Oceon, Paul Miller, Brian Parkin, Jamie Cureton, and Jason Roberts. Being in the 5th tier is no selling point, and not having a 'production line' of players moving on any more is actually an interesting negative.

Whilst it's harder the lower you drop surely some Conference players still go for decent money, I assume Akinde wouldn't be cheap if anybody signed him?

Wouldn't surprise me if this is not the last we've heard about this one if no one else comes in for him today.

Interesting from a Northern Echo journo on twitter:
"@loughlinecho: Jack Compton to Bristol Rovers in exchange for Andy Monkhouse returning to Hartlepool - if it comes off its a good one."

I really can't understand why we would let Monkhouse go with some of the injuries we have had. A winger for a winger just doesn't make sense.

At least if he stays with us Monky has a chance of not playing in the Conference next year.

I don't think a player wanting the best for his career or attempting to get the best terms and conditions of employment available is being mercenary. Professional football is no different from any other career in that respect.

I would be gutted if Monkhouse went. He does love Hartlepool though and the manager who got rid of him has since been sacked, so it is possible there could be substance to this rumour. He has come across like a trusted assistant of Clarke's this year though and I can't see that he'd want to lose him.

Barnet are now interested in Clifford. Yeah, saw that on Twitter. That really would be a bitter pill to swallow if he ended up there!

I reckon Barnet are partly getting him to stop us from strengthening. Strange how they've come in at the last minute, ****s.
