Does anyone actually know if Clifford is any good, for all we know he's pants and not worth signing anyway, seems like crying over spilt milk until we actually see the player we missed and the player we got actually play! He used to play for Chelsea so must be!

Good point. Anyway southend don't want him and no other league club showed an interest.

He's not very good
Southend fans say he keeps hitting the bar instead of scoring

Blimey. He should strengthen your youth team, then, if he still qualifies.

He's not very good Southend fans say he keeps hitting the bar instead of scoring Watching that makes me wonder what has happened for him to be plying his trade in non league, then again these highlight packages can be very misleading on occasion. But you would think he would be good at this level, so fair play good signing, you need to hope he does not get injured on his debut,it does happen

You need to make sure he doesn't get his legs broken in an unfortunate accidental drive by leg-breaking incident, If you know what I mean.
Not saying we did Jamie Turley, I'm just saying, you don't see him walking around with the conventional number of working elbows any more.

Forgetting about location and assuming Barnet didn't outbid us, who seriously would take working with Mad dog whilst playing in front of 1500 (& probably just 150 away fans? ) over working for DC and playing in front 6,000 plus. If a young player is only interested in location then surely DC's been targeting the wrong player, and we've had a lucky escape not signing another JJOT.

Its a pretty important thing. ecially as there are a lot more clubs in that area so if he is looking for another club at some point then it will be a lot easier than finding one near here. And now you're comparing him to O'Toole?! That is ridiculous. All most of us know about him is that he came up through Chelsea's youth team and has played a fair few games in league 2 yet somehow we can say how we have missed out on such a brilliant player or how we have dodged a bullet as he is another JJOT. Either one extreme or the other on here.

That's my point it must be down to location as nobody in their right mind would choose Mad Dog/Barnet over DC/6,000 fans?
Comparing him to JJOT as he clearly missed the South East and Clifford doesn't seem to want to leave it.

... who has the brightest prospects over the next 5 years - us or barnet ? Well, if you'd answered that question five years ago, you'd have got it wrong. Made me laugh - very funny/clever reply (unfortunately!!)

He probably looked at the fate of the majority of loan signings we have had this season and thought he would get more playing time than Barnet. The guy we got from Bournemouth probably wont get a look in once Sinclair and Clarke are back. the loan signings that have done well have played regularly ie cunnington and della verde ,,,should we still pick wakefield if sinclair/clarke are fit and the maager beleves they are better players?

Surely that's the issue why do Yeovil etc sign players who go straight into thier first team but our loan players are usually only young players deemed good enough for the bench? LDV out of around 10 loanees is probably the only one we'd like to see return.

LDV out of around 10 loanees is probably the only one we'd like to see return. Because Yeovil are usually reliant on loans. It's not sustainable to build a team of loanees as Yeovil do each year (or used to do...) because you can't sell the good players on and any team spirit you had the season before is gone in the summer! They changed that philosophy a bit last season but only because other Championship clubs wouldn't send them loanees I suspect. Yeovil are a small club with a poor financial budget and if you ask me a lack of ambition. They had the chance to expand Huish last season and upgrade the awful facilities there with the money from their Championship season (on 3x their normal gates!!) but failed to. EDIT: Can anybody justify the argument that any of our loan players (LDV and possibly Cunnington aside) have been good enough to oust our current squad? Loanees are there to add squad depth, not make up your whole team.

Either one extreme or the other on here. Bang on about location. Easter wouldn't have come apart from it made sense as he wanted to move back to Cardiff. Why is Steve Elliot signing for Bath? It is entirely understandable that Clifford chose Barnet over us as he won't need to relocate or commute a big distance in order to come to us. Neither he, or us deserve any criticism over this. I think we're making a pretty good fist of things this year. Hardly anyone predicted we'd win this league at the beginning of the season. Now we have a sniff. People complain that we haven't brought in an experienced creative midfielder. Firstly they don't grow on trees at this level, at the correct budget, and secondly, DC has to be careful ensure he doesn't upset the undoubtedly good atmosphere in the squad which has been pivotal in getting us to second place. There's no doubt we've been unlucky recently with injuries. Sinclair, Clarke and Easter were all really big losses. DC has admitted that he wanted to get an attacking midfielder in. He started against Dartford with Monkhouse in midfield, something fans had clamoured for, but no doubt he had to change things once Easter came off. It's possible he could have put Ellis on as a like for like swap but over practically a full 90 minutes Ellis is yet to convince. Anyway, now he has brought in Wakefield and I'm pretty sure he'll have a part to play in the next few weeks. What gets on my nerves is when people say things like 'failure to replace Sinclair will cost us this season'. Sinclair has been our stand out player this season but even then it took him a few games to really find his feet. It is clearly going to be a very difficult job to replace your stand out player with one equally as good, to hit the ground running immediately! DC deserves more support and more patience from us fans in my opinion. He has done most things right so far this season and if we end up falling short of automatic promotion, it's worth remembering that hardly anyone expected us to get this anyway.
