How can you forget about location? Its a pretty important thing. ecially as there are a lot more clubs in that area so if he is looking for another club at some point then it will be a lot easier than finding one near here. And now you're comparing him to O'Toole?! That is ridiculous. All most of us know about him is that he came up through Chelsea's youth team and has played a fair few games in league 2 yet somehow we can say how we have missed out on such a brilliant player or how we have dodged a bullet as he is another JJOT. Either one extreme or the other on here. Bang on about location. Easter wouldn't have come apart from it made sense as he wanted to move back to Cardiff. Why is Steve Elliot signing for Bath? It is entirely understandable that Clifford chose Barnet over us as he won't need to relocate or commute a big distance in order to come to us. Neither he, or us deserve any criticism over this. I think we're making a pretty good fist of things this year. Hardly anyone predicted we'd win this league at the beginning of the season. Now we have a sniff. People complain that we haven't brought in an experienced creative midfielder. Firstly they don't grow on trees at this level, at the correct budget, and secondly, DC has to be careful ensure he doesn't upset the undoubtedly good atmosphere in the squad which has been pivotal in getting us to second place. There's no doubt we've been unlucky recently with injuries. Sinclair, Clarke and Easter were all really big losses. DC has admitted that he wanted to get an attacking midfielder in. He started against Dartford with Monkhouse in midfield, something fans had clamoured for, but no doubt he had to change things once Easter came off. It's possible he could have put Ellis on as a like for like swap but over practically a full 90 minutes Ellis is yet to convince. Anyway, now he has brought in Wakefield and I'm pretty sure he'll have a part to play in the next few weeks. What gets on my nerves is when people say things like 'failure to replace Sinclair will cost us this season'. Sinclair has been our stand out player this season but even then it took him a few games to really find his feet. It is clearly going to be a very difficult job to replace your stand out player with one equally as good, to hit the ground running immediately! DC deserves more support and more patience from us fans in my opinion. He has done most things right so far this season and if we end up falling short of automatic promotion, it's worth remembering that hardly anyone expected us to get this anyway. Top post !!!!

the loan signings that have done well have played regularly ie cunnington and della verde ,,,should we still pick wakefield if sinclair/clarke are fit and the maager beleves they are better players? Surely that's the issue why do Yeovil etc sign players who go straight into thier first team but our loan players are usually only young players deemed good enough for the bench? LDV out of around 10 loanees is probably the only one we'd like to see return. well yeovil have been bottom of there league for 2 seasons so there loan players go straight in as there desperate,,,we are 2nd in our league so a loan player has to force his way in,,, i imagine there are some players available for loan at league one clubs who would get straight in the team but can we afford there wages and will they want to play in the conference?

What get on nerves his peiople like you suggested replacing our stand out player, who's very experienced for this league, with a youngster who's failed elsewhere is OK. FFS we have gates double most teams in this division and have budgeted (ie set our wage bill) on even higher gates, if we can't bring in a decent replacement midfield player, which TBH we needed before OC's/SS's injuries then I think fans are right to ask questions. Last season NH blamed JW for his failure to bring in an experienced striker, this summer he could well be saying the same about DC and a midfielder.

something going on re conor clifford at Barnet. suspicions that they may try to wait a while to re-loan him so they can have him for play-offs if need be. www.onlybarnet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9087Would be interesting if he didn't make it back to the Bees. maybe someone will take him? maybe southend won;t be too impressed at Allen not contacting them?

So he's gone back? I heard he was doing ok there. Has he? I read it that he was still there, but discussions about the extension to his loan appear not to have happened between Barnet and Southend. Watch this space...................but not too hard!

Haha, there's no chance they waiting to extend it so it covers a hypothetical play-off final.

Little surprised if that's the case, considering his stupid interview when he 'chose Barnet'. That said, maybe he was just misquoted. Harsh to judge him on that I guess. If he had the choice between us and barnet now, i'm sure he'd rather join us.

Can't see that being the case, unless there is no possibility of Lines and/or Sinclair is going.
Why would we need 5 central midfielders + backup?

Lines can hardly be "going" when he's already gone back to PV?
The OP on the Barnet forum seems to be in the know although he has only posted on there 30 times prevously so it could be BS.

I'm not fussed if we don't I'm sure CL is a far better option.

Sorry - I meant if there is no possibility of Lines (signing for us)/If Sinclair is released. The latter is obviously not happening (thank god) so the only reason I could see us needing Clifford is if we aren't signing Lines.

i thought lines was top class for us in the run in but i really hope we dont pay way over the odds for him as i have niggling doubts about his character and attitude, especially if he gets a 2 year deal at rovers,

Don't think that will happen with DC in charge. Certainly won't be a JJ O'Toole mk. II with him signing a week before the start of the season.
