Would think 100% to do with location. Yeah, location is one of the most important things which people just seem to dismiss in favour of the strength of fanbase. I read on facebook one of our fans said he shows no ambition for choosing Barnet over us. Well, he certainly looks more likely to be in the league with them next season than he would with us.

Good to see we are not just chucking money at people like we used to do, he made his choice to go to Barnet, I am sure in the past we would have offered a fortune and had a guy on a three year contract and he then twists his knee. I am pleased to be honest, we stuck to our guns on this one ! UTG.

Short term decision and imho the wrong one. Unless he sees barnet as a better shop window for a move in the summer who has the brightest prospects over the next 5 years - us or barnet ?

... who has the brightest prospects over the next 5 years - us or barnet ? Well, if you'd answered that question five years ago, you'd have got it wrong.

Fair enough, I think it is the right one for him personally. How many players stay at a club for 5 years? Especially at this level. If he goes to Barnet, he will most likely be playing league football next season where he is more likely to get noticed than in the conference? Joining us would have represented a far bigger risk as we are much less likely to go up and much further away from his current location.

You are probably right that it was location but I can't see that your manager criticising the training facilities at the weekend helped much in making the players mind up.

He probably looked at the fate of the majority of loan signings we have had this season and thought he would get more playing time than Barnet. The guy we got from Bournemouth probably wont get a look in once Sinclair and Clarke are back.

I doubt that the state of the training facilities really came into consideration. I'm sure Martin Allen can be very persuasive, we're not paying over the odds for anyone (fee or wages), so a move just up the road would have suited - especially as we were only looking for temporary cover in that position.

too much thinking going on here.

what a Dam lady garden though.
anyway, we genuinely don't want players like that. If he says he wants to fight for his place and also doesn't want to drop a level, and then 10 hours later reneges on that, then we don't need him.

They are owned by an ambitious multi millionaire who's ploughed £20m into the Hive alone, I assume they can sign who they want if the owner will fund it? maybe we should then thank god he hasn't actually spent much (any?) moeny on players then!

Can't believe the arrogance of our fans who think he should sign for us just because we have more fans? I'm pretty sure that's way off the top of most player's lists of things they think about when signing for a new club. in years gone by I think we were attractive as we had a good reputation of players going on to bigger teams with more money (wages!). I always thought of it as a slightly bad thing as we always lost of best players and the money went into a black hole. Now i realise it's catch 22. Now we have very few players being sold upwards we not only don't get that money, but we also lose that reputation that attracted the likes of Roberts, Hayles, Cureton, Carayol, Ellington etc here in the first place.

Can't believe the hype this is getting seeing as he has only signed a short-term loan deal at Barnet and would only have been cover here anyway.
Still, let's continue to extrapolate.

With respect, I think you're missing the point: I'm not debating why he chose Barnet - I'm simply pointing out that it's not "arrogant" to suggest that we're a bigger club than Barnet when we are - that is fact. Unfortunately, just like everything else in the world these days where things have gone PC mad, it appears football fans are trying to do the same now - "oooh, we mustn't be arrogant. We mustn't say we're a big club" blah de blah de blah. Bollocks to that frankly. We are a bigger club than Barnet. I'm not saying we're a massive club or the "Barcelona" of Non-League - I'm simply saying that we're bigger than Barnet. Furthermore, I'm not trying to explain why he chose Barnet over us - I'm just pointing out that you can't call fans arrogant when they say Bristol Rovers are bigger than Barnet - because we are.

No, I actually think it's YOU that misses the point! I have not debated that Barnet are a bigger club than us. You have gone completely off on a tangent which is irrelevant to my original point made.

Does anyone actually know if Clifford is any good, for all we know he's pants and not worth signing anyway, seems like crying over spilt milk until we actually see the player we missed and the player we got actually play!
