i thought lines was top class for us in the run in but i really hope we dont pay way over the odds for him as i have niggling doubts about his character and attitude, especially if he gets a 2 year deal at rovers, Character and attitude? Never had a problem with either.

He was a class above in the Conference and dug in when necessary. Staying on at Wembley when he was obviously struggling with cramp for the whole of extra time shows plenty of Character and good attitude to me. There is no doubt that Chris Lines WANTS to play for Rovers, I don't know whether that was the case at Port Vale. Of course, we shouldn't be held to ransom by Port Vale on this and I sense there is some bluff going on now. I just hope a reasonable deal can be done sooner rather than later.

Although any of us who can remember CL from the past are bound to have concerns about his attitude but hopefully he's matured.

They need to cut the wage bill in half.

He also knows that he is surplus at PV and was in the shop window with us. The comfort blanket of a 2 year contract can do funny things to a player. Concerns are justified imo. If we end up with CL of the last few months, it worth it though.

I'd sign him but only on our terms. I wouldn't pay a fee for him and it would have to be a reasonable league 2 salary. If he really wants to play for Rovers then he'll accept that, if not then we move on.

Tbh I always expected him to perform on the loan deal; it's how he performs once he's won a relatively lucrative, no doubt fairly comfortable (length wise) contract - that's what worries me.
Don't get me wrong, there's no doubting his ability and I do think it's worth the gamble, provided it's a year with the option of an extra year (or 2 years ABSOLUTE maximum) and on wages that won't severely hamper us financially. I just have a niggling concern will end up in another JJOT situation otherwise.
Just my IMO and hopefully that won't be the guess. I'm sure it probably won't - but is a concern I have nonetheless. Definitely worth trying to make the deal happen though if we can get him for a reasonable fee and on a sensible contract that works for both us and him.

Has my memory completely fooled me here (it is very possible!) or were you not 100% against Lines coming back?? To the point of saying it was a disaster?

They need to cut the wage bill in half. Surely if he rated him he wouldhave been playing him in the first team? "He remained a key first team player in the first half of the 2014–15 season until he was sent off for violent conduct after thrusting his head towards Dele Alli in a 1–0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons at Stadium mk on 22 November; manager Rob Page stated that Lines should have known better. After returning from suspension he lost his midfield spot to Michael O'Connor and Michael Brown. On 9 March 2015, he rejoined his first professional club, Bristol Rovers."

It's no sceret that Port Vale want to reduce the wage bill, that seems the main reason.

As the game wore on against Grimsby you could see what a class act he is,he held up play well and knew just when to keep hold of possession and when to release it and his passing was a joy to watch, he is easily lg 1 standard.

Linesy has publically stated he would LOVE to return. I'd be surprised if the negotations were very tricky tbh. Tell him how he can help us, ask him what we can do for him, meet in the middle. No doubt he is dropping to a division lower than he is capable - purely for one club.

If he really wants to play for Rovers then he'll accept that, if not then we move on. I agree. For me, as well as the wage issue (he would have to be our top earner, I'm sure, but no silly money), I would offer him only a 1 year contract, possibly with a trigger for a second year if he starts 35 league games, or makes say 10 assists if you want to make it performance based. He has to understand that we can't afford big contracts, which at an uncertain time for the club, may even put our existence in jeopardy. If he really wants to play for us then I don't think he will have an issue with it. If he can get a better deal elsewhere and would play for someone else rather than stay here, then fair enough, it's his decision and we move on.
