The "invited" clubs are:- Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland, Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United EFL Clubs – a minimum of 5 ‘First Team’ players in the starting 11 as defined under the competition’s existing rules.Invited Clubs – 6 of the starting 11 to be U21 (as at June 30). Final format confirmed hereI'm guessing a team would be fined if they played under 5 first team regulars?
It's a stupid rule anyway if you have a squad of 20/22 there can be an argument to say they are all first team regulars and important players, how would it be measured, must have played a % of games?

The rule has always been a joke, but it's even more of one now. Why should you have to play 5 first team players against a Premier League B Team? Utterly ludicrous. The rule should be scrapped. If clubs don't want to take the tournament that seriously, surely it's their choice?! I'm sure they'd only field a truly weakened side if they absolutely had to (i.e. more important game a few days later) and in that case it's surely entirely their prerogative. Quite how they have the audacity to keep that rule in place, when they'd already made a mockery of the competition by adding in B Teams is beyond me.

How do you define first team regulars when the early rounds are right at the start of the season?!

...then again perhaps not.
Might have been a good idea to check with the Premium league teams first if they were actually interested...

"Efl trophy in danger of becoming a farce". Um no it has been a farce since the idea was announced. We don't need or want B teams. By these B teams walking away it becomes less of a farce.
