Comparing Clarkson with Reilly is like comparing apples with oranges. Clarkson was a clever player but slow and had low energy and fitness. In 10 yard sprints (yes speed in the first 10 yards is important particularly for strikers) Reilly is the fastest player in the club, though when fully fit DL might be up there with him. Reilly has a one touch finish that Clarkson didn't show with much consistency. Still would like to see Coles join the club, since he could play with any of our strikers Danny Coles? Make-shift striker?

No chance of that changing anytime soon. Spending Money and success don't go hand in hand, just look at our red friends south of the river developing players to a better standard is the way to go and make the club more sustainable. I would argue that selling the likes of Taylor/Bodin/Harrison/Gaffers have made our club a lot more sustainable for the future I know it was a while ago now infact around 9 years ago but it's funny to think that Lambert only cost £250K more than Ellis.

if bako Bako was at the game today and watched that performace he would want to get back to his club asap and not sign 4 us Well if he is heading back to Walsall I'll give him a ring and he can take you with him! It's closer to home for you and they don't have DC as manager. What's not to like midland?

It would be f**king hilarious if this Bakayoko doesn’t sign for us and it was someone else , seriously all you lot arguing over this lad need to get a grip! He hasn’t signed yet , if i remember rightly there were a load of belter posts aimed at Lumley when he first came in as he wasn’t deemed good enough or had enough experience, look how that ended , the same twats slagging him off were f**king moaning that we didn’t sign him permanently!!!!! Even if it is him he deserves a chance! Look at Oli Mcburnie no one really seemed to have rated him including DC and he's been banging them in at championship level recently. Some signings don't work out for certain clubs but blossom at other clubs so let's give him a chance.

FGR want £1m+ for him. Not a chance of us signing a player for that money. We pocketed 50k short of £1m for Harrison and Gaffney - it's going to cost us a lot more if we get relegated! Not saying it should be Doidge, but we've got to spend that money to stand still. All very well the people saying we could pick up cheap players from elsewhere, but we've had a whole preseason and haven't managed it. The owners / management have messed up, now they will have to pay either with their wallets or gamble with our league one status. So we sold Gaffney for £200K?

Bakayoko is there today apparently. Travelled with the squad. You've added to the nightmare Well after watching this dire performance he'll be having second thoughts about joining us.

Jeez! That's a bit harsh on Gaffney, think he played a real key part in our return to league 1. Even in league 1 he worked hard and created space for others, calling him a 'stinker' in terms of signings is very harsh. Never really performed after his loan, tbf. He did the job he was brought in to do, without his goals in league 2 while he was on loan and after he joined us permanently we would not have been promoted. Remember the first home game after Al-Qadis take over think Gaffers scored the winner in a 2-1 win over morecambe if I remember rightly.

Yes, not all players will be gems. But our club history - Hayles, curetoen, roberts, Ellington, Bodin, Taylor, Harrison. Point I’m trying to make is, under DC we haven’t done bad. So try and look on the bright side. And here’s hoping Nicholls bags one today. I agree about Gaffney and James! All clubs have their stinkers Jeez! That's a bit harsh on Gaffney, think he played a real key part in our return to league 1. Even in league 1 he worked hard and created space for others, calling him a 'stinker' in terms of signings is very harsh.

McAleney was a fantastic prospect at Everton amazed at his decline As was Jose Baxter my friend, and we all know what happened there. Think McAleny moved to Fleetwood after his loan at Oxford, would be happy if he does sign.

like I said... on a par with Ellis... by your earlier comment, with EH's goal return in league 2, he isn't good enough for league one... yet he still managed to score and have you singing his praises. then we get linked to a player with similar stats as EH in league 2 and he isn't good enough!?! AND I take it, you've not seen him play!?! It's not all about stats, it's about their playing attributes and all round game. It's ridiculous to compare the two players because anyone that has seen the two players knows they are in different leagues, both metaphorically and literally. And yes I have seen Green play. Agree! You can't compare players by stats all the time, if we did that Aden Flint would be a good replacement for most strikers in the leagues below. Matt Green is a very average league 2 striker tbf and is be very underwhelmed if we were to sign him.

Found this really interesting.. There is a certain amount of educated guess work with regards to fees both given and received , but as a rule of thumb I think it is about right and the results are interesting.. Season 2008/09Total transfer fees spent = £0 Total transfer fees received = £0 Balance = £0 Season 2009/10
Total transfer fees spent = £0 Total transfer fees received = £1.2M Balance = +£1.2M Season 2010/11
Total transfer fees spent = £0 Total transfer fees received = £95k Balance = +£95k Season 2011/12Total transfer fees spent = £75K Total transfer fees received = £625k Balance = +£550K Season 2012/13Total transfer fees spent = £0 Total transfer fees received = £640k Balance = +£640k Season 2013/14Total transfer fees spent = £250K Total transfer fees received = £0 Balance = -£250K Season 2014/15Total transfer fees spent = £50k Total transfer fees received = £200k Balance = +£150k Season 2015/16Total transfer fees spent = £200k Total transfer fees received = £0 Balance = -£200k Season 2016/17Total transfer fees spent = £35k Total transfer fees received = £350k Balance = +£315k Season 2017/18Total transfer fees spent = £500k Total transfer fees received = £450k Balance = -£50k Season 2018/19Total transfer fees spent = £0 Total transfer fees received = £940k Balance = +£940k Final balance on transfer activity over the last ten years = +£3.4M
As I say, there is an element of guess work in some of those workings out where fees were never released, but in almost all cases the fees were pretty much public information, so the guesses will not be too far off the mark but the figures will of course not be exact. Having said that, these figures are close enough to show the trend over the last ten years. Another interesting stat is that our record transfer fee paid is one of the lowest in the division at £375,000k, a fee of course paid over 25 years ago for one Andy Tilson. None of this was meant as 'board bashing' and I hope it is not taken as such, but it is clear that we have been reserved (some would say shown a lack of ambition) in the transfer market. The point of all of this is, wouldn't it be great if now we have already received nearly £1m in fees this summer, we went and smashed our transfer record for a real top top proven player? It is something we have never really done before whilst clubs around us do it every season. Over to you Mr Chairman.. Pretty sure the 08/09 season was when we signed Kuffour, Hughes and Duffy for a combined total of roughly £300K?

I think the white covering over the pitch may be the fibre sub-layer that SH and the groundsman were talking about. Presumably this will be covered with a layer of sand then top-soil, onto which the grass seed will be sewn. When the seed germinates, the idea is for the roots to entwine with the fibre layer, thus making the pitch more hard wearing and less likely to cut up. All this professionalism, I find it hard to comprehend! The white stuff you see are the germination sheets. All the soil, seeds and fibre you talk about are already in place under the sheets. They help keep it warm and moist. Your right though about how it should be much mire hard wearing. Should have a cracking surface next season 👍🏻 Ah so that's what it is, there was me thinking it was tbones semen keeping it all warm and moist after releasing himself after Matty Taylor missing chances galore for 2 1/2 seasons!

Tom Lockyer and Daniel Craig scoring record is worse.....which isn't their job per se.....both were out jumped for the goal conceded which is their job (per se). Gaff tried his heart out today, as always, it just wasn't his game. If anything, I feel he was trying too hard. Understand where you're coming from but still think Daniel Craig is better off concentrating on James Bond!
