I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I’ve always fancied the idea of designing a stadium so rather than vent our collective spleens over the perceived lack of activity, how about we come up with our own theoretical proposals? I need to get to grips with some new software and we could use the exercise to explore the fan base’s wish list of facilities. We could look at a couple of different configurations (straight sided and bowl) and for a range of capacities which I will then drop on a couple of different sites and generate a few visuals that you all crave. Interested? If so, I will start a new thread and get cracking!

Oh, the Fruit Market stadium pipe-dream! You’ve had the same one, where we evoke gasometer aesthetics for the principle structure. Spooky! 😉

As Wail wanted to own the club it is only right he should be bailing the club out financially. I suppose the fans are grateful for the new training ground but the ongoing stadium situation is abysmal. Gasheads are being fobbed off and readily accept anything! There hasn't even been an artists impression of a longed for stadium. If that’s a challenge then I accept. 🎨😊👍🏟

Topper old chap.Know you are always very eager to jump in. Certainly not negative about Wael.We would be in a bad place I expect without him. As far as supporting another club is concerned hardly likely.Travelled from RAF Laarbruch in Germany for 3 years several times a season, from North Staffs for 50 year years a 250 mile round journey and now 160 mile round journey.Don't be so eager to jump in mate.Smile and relax. We played well last night.Loved last season so try and look for the good in people and will buy you a beer next Sat v FGR is you fancy a meet up. The mention of RAF Laarbruch brings back happy memories of a CCF summer camp in the early 80’s and only just managing to get back past the sentries after a delightful evening consuming copious amounts of apfelkorn in Weeze whilst distinctly underage. Unfortunately they wouldn’t let us play with the Tornadoes or Jaguars so they packed us off to the Philip’s museum in Eindhoven and to see the bridges in Nijmegen and Arnhem. Happy days. 🍺😊👍

Why is there so much space either side of Wael’s armpits? 😂

Why can't a stand with decent conference facilities, a gym and a small supermarket generate income? We could even include student accommodation and a hotel/Travel Lodge. And music events. And exhibitions. Maybe not Earl's Court or the NEC level, but not everyone wants those. And hipster foodie markets. And summer open air cinema. And micro pubs and bars All sorts of revenue generating opportunities with a bit of imagination, and there is quite bit of space at the Mem, as some of our more nerdy types have measured on Google maps. By “nerdy types” I presume you mean construction design professionals,…in which case guilty as charged. 😉

and I’ll join you walking from Dorset to the new stadium, anyone else? 👀 IPG I’ll join the pair of you. I’ll be ok to Blandford but you may need to carry me from there!! But yes, come on Wael, sort it out. UTG! Just hop on the train at Blandford, change lines at Radstock and it will take you straight to Temple Meads…if this was pre 1966!

I just want a new artists impression of a stadium, the UWE one is so outdated. I can rustle one up if you like. What sort of capacity are you looking for and straight sides or bowl?

Will drug dealers have to have a machine for cards then 😂. What will users use to sniff it with I'm sure that they're ahead of the game regarding being cashless. Limited edition trainers? 😂

Cashless is the way forward whether people like it or not. It's just the reliability of the system. Local to me there have been a few shops where systems have gone down and regular cashless users have been left to find an ATM - there are not many - just to buy a pint of milk. Gone are the days of backup being pen, paper, calculator and a box full of change incase the till breaks. It’s not just the reliability but the vulnerability which bothers me. There’s more than one hostile state actor who would love to take down the banking system which would cause absolute chaos if it was for any length of time. And then there’s natural events like solar flares which could knock out the associated electronics. Persisting with a physical back up system like cash seems prudent to me.

*gargles noisily* . . . “Mmmm yes Tarquin, I’m definitely detecting base notes of DDT mixed with liquid Tomorite, along with feisty mid-tones of smug and pretension, skilfully blended with highlights of sneer . . .” mmmm….ya, ya, this bottle is made from sustainable fairtrade glass…. In 1066 we were colonised and our ruling classes became the French, or the Normans to be precise. This class distinction, of anglo Saxon peasantry and continental rulers endures to this very day. Francophilia, European foods, drinks etc are a core part of bourgeois signalling. A millennium on but cultural identities die hard. if you’ve ever wondered why the upper middle classes are so obsessed with French/continental everything, there’s the answer I always thought that Norman wisdom portrayed the working class. 😉

This just popped up on my YouTube feed and, as it is a bit quiet at the moment, I thought that others might be interested as he discusses the effect on him of his time with us:

Nothing like the shame I feel for being just too unenlightened and lacking in intellectual capacity to understand the nuances of fermented grape juice. Yes, I can understand that. 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps it is then. Splodgenessabounds? 😂

"best opportunity for years" Not sure we can get much closer than the UWE when all we needed was Sainsbury's to hand over the money, given that we'd already secured pp on the Mem and the stadium and finance was already in place, some were told. Even if Wael decides to proceed with a stadium at the FM pp for the stadium (and the rest of the proposed development?) will have to be obtained and also, potentially, pp for whatever is planned at the Mem. Agreed Topper, was looking like a plan but Sainsbury's didn't hand over the money so the deal was dead. I'd like to think plannning permission for the FM wont be a major obstacle judging by the local council support in developing the area from Temple Meads toward St Philips Marsh and the lack of residents who might object. I also haven't seen any great crested newts, so fingers crossed! For an allegedly rare species they seem to turn up with alarming frequency on construction sites I’ve been involved with. I reckon it’s a covert Natural England hit squad that dumps a load of them out of the back of a van when nobody’s looking. 😉

Agreed - shows a lack of respect for the history and tradition of a club.
However, I do like the fact that we now seem to be just called 'The Gas' on Quest. Perhaps we should consider a name change.
We would probably be cancelled as it’s not an environmentally responsible name! 😉

I went to School with Ray, he was in the same year as me. Hengrove Comprehensive. He was a funny kid, a bit nutty. Bizarrely he played centre forward for the school team. I was in the same year at school as Jonathan Gould and if I remember correctly he was an outfield player but Bobby told him that he wasn’t going to make it professionally so he took up position between the sticks. A career that took in Celtic and a Scotland cap wasn’t too shabby. He was a bit of a nutter too, and he still owes me a quid,…although he’s not getting stabbed! 😂 (that’s a Kevin Bridges joke about an experience at a Glasgow bus stop after midnight before anyone becomes outraged).

Art Deco or Neo-Gothic? We can rule modernist out Probably more surrealism. …or 1980’s theme park to fit the current zeitgeist, running up that hill, stranger things, etc. Oh wait…! 😂

I think deals have been done and some are being done - JB will have it all in hand for sure. Its more about when details are released .... Fully expecting a 'rapid fire' of news when it comes..... London Buses style!! Can see it now, new home and away kits showcased by Evans, Nicho, Elliot Anderson, Taylor, Connolly, McCormick, Thomas and Alfie May on the FM site with a giant picture of the first artist impression of the Gas Stad (capacity 35K)!! Oops, is this water actually vodka? You forgot Bale! 🙄

I wish you had written that before me just ordering 10, to be delivered. I will give my opinion when i get them, next week It's usually made with coconut oil and has a faint whiff of the stuff, which I find weird. The only product that I think comes anywhere close to an authentic cheese taste is the “Pimp My Salad” cashew nut Parmesan alternative. Just sprinkle it liberally over your tofu and quinoa salad…and then go and get a proper cheese burger to compensate. 😂

A soil test is normally to establish if there is any contamination which would require remediation whereas a trial pit is to determine the sub surface strata to inform foundation design. Given that it is located in former marsh land do you mean the latter as I’m not aware that there has been any heavy industry on the site which would require the former? There was certainly heavy industry on the site. It was formerly St Phillips Marsh locomotive sheds. Two large roundhouses and a straight road repair workshops and large sidings. Fair enough, I’m just a touch too young and only remember the Bath Road shed from standing on the end of the platforms at Temple Meads in the 70s. Contaminants from former railway land can be quite onerous, especially depots, however I would have expected that to have been taken care of when the fruit market was built, although I have no idea what the standards were like in the late 60s. I guess the transport and logistics side of the fruit market could be viewed as a potential source of contaminants and given the high cost of soil remediation it makes sense that that a thorough assessment is undertaken at this early stage. BTW, the Wikipedia entry for St Philips Marsh engine shed mentions that the foundations were supported on concrete piles which is what you would expect for heavy structures on soils of poor load bearing capacity such as former marsh land.
