A soil test is normally to establish if there is any contamination which would require remediation whereas a trial pit is to determine the sub surface strata to inform foundation design. Given that it is located in former marsh land do you mean the latter as I’m not aware that there has been any heavy industry on the site which would require the former? There was certainly heavy industry on the site. It was formerly St Phillips Marsh locomotive sheds. Two large roundhouses and a straight road repair workshops and large sidings. Fair enough, I’m just a touch too young and only remember the Bath Road shed from standing on the end of the platforms at Temple Meads in the 70s. Contaminants from former railway land can be quite onerous, especially depots, however I would have expected that to have been taken care of when the fruit market was built, although I have no idea what the standards were like in the late 60s. I guess the transport and logistics side of the fruit market could be viewed as a potential source of contaminants and given the high cost of soil remediation it makes sense that that a thorough assessment is undertaken at this early stage. BTW, the Wikipedia entry for St Philips Marsh engine shed mentions that the foundations were supported on concrete piles which is what you would expect for heavy structures on soils of poor load bearing capacity such as former marsh land.

Soil samples were being taken at the Fruit Market last week so assume once these have been tested they will feed into any feasibility study ahead of a potential agreement/sign off to develop the site.
Exciting info here on the world of soil testing if you have no paint to watch drying.....

Reading a post from Swissgas on Gas guzzler, now stating that he has heard he believes it is looking likely at the FM site, but the stadium will be grander than first thought. I dont know the poster so dont shoot the messenger Maybe Swiss misheard Wael saying in French Arabic/Bristolian, “Arena Grander” when he’s actually lined up Ariana Grande to sing “7 Rings” at the opening ceremony. 😂

Given what DC has done for Vale, do you think that he’s been given free tickets for the Robbie Williams gig at Vale Park tonight?

How would Rovers cope with season ticket sales if the club were to attain a successive promotion to the Championship? Do you mean how would they cope with the volume? Because it's not much harder to sell 10k tickets than 5k. Or do you mean how would they decide on numbers and allocations around the ground? A happy problem to have, and Tom etc will have a year to figure it out. It is a tricky one, because 3,000 POTD'ers are worth a lot more than 3,000 ST holders. I like your optimism and certainty that they’ve only got a year. 😉 Championship 23/24 here we come!

If the club were theoretically able to sell the ground’s total capacity as season tickets you could end up with the ludicrous scenario when a crowd of 900 people for a tinpot cup game is declared to be a sell out! 🙄

There's loads of posters who talk about having an affinity to other clubs, nothing to see here. But having an affinity to calling them my club is quite a bit different I think he explained before that it’s Joey Barton’s connection with Everton that is the root of the OP’s interest in the Gas. It’s a bit like some of our lot following DC on Walsall and now Vale’s forums.

I disagree. BRFC first team is more authentically Scouse than L’pool and is good going forward. Compare and contrast…as it’s exam season. 😂

My father is currently on B52 (the ward, not the aeroplane) so be reassured that if you are in B12 there will be Gas in the building rooting for you! We’re all looking forward to seeing you posting again as soon as possible.

Gashead 73 obviously not a Bristolian as they would say ,'Off OF the line!!' Sorry mate but it is the close season and nothing happening yet. Also maybe “would of said in stead of would have” the welsh do this too That’s interesting as someone pulled me up the other day because I said “comprises of” in a sentence which seems really natural to me.

This latest news is making me pessimistic, the non binding exclusivity period was already generous, extending says to me, some businesses still dont want to sell and be uprooted. Combine that with the Mayoral role disappearing in 2 or so years, to leave behind an adversarial governance system, and then add any pro city councillors that would try to delay or block the pp, and then add in any fighting groups that will try and resist the development of housing on the Mem, I unfortunately feel this chapter will inexorably draw to a disappointing non productive conclusion. Or nowt happening in a nutshell. I really want to be proved wrong, and will gladly accept any amount of ridicule if I am wrong, but..... The green party will be running bristol in 2 years so they need to get a move on! It depends upon how you present it. An application for a 120x90m green open space for recreational sport open to the whole community (to watch), reusing a brownfield site and very close to public transport networks should do it! 😉

It’s a humane gesture from compassionate owners who realise that job security is another stress factor which DC could do without at this moment. Being a manager is high pressure enough and it will allow him to concentrate on the football side of things as much as he is able to and with the knowledge that he has their full support. Decent people. 👏

Rumour is they need the stadium to pass planning for everything else. Ooh, are we going to get a free stadium thanks to the Community Infrastructure Levy as councils are allowed to spend it on cultural and sports facilities. 😉

A lot less than buying a new site in the middle of the city and building a completely new stadium from scratch Not necessarily, as phased construction takes a lot longer and labour costs rather than materials can tip the balance. Going back to your original post, pitch orientation is an issue and they are normally aligned so that the afternoon sun comes from the side of the pitch. That way neither team is hampered by looking directly into the sun particularly as it is low on the horizon during the winter. It’s the same reason why grounds with one main or higher stand locate it on the west/southwest side to shield the pitch from the sun even more.

Surrounded by Russians Bags. Some interesting conversations taking place I can tell you. So they spotted you in your quarters shirt and came over to congratulate you on the 7-0? 😂 …but seriously, and I’m genuinely intrigued, are they anti-war exiles or pro Moscow hawks?

Don’t forget that JB has already had a couple of seasons managing in League 1 and made the playoffs. Given that he didn’t have any prior knowledge of League 2 I don’t think he did too badly this year.😉 I think he definitely knows what it takes to succeed in League 1 and is pragmatic enough to know that he is going to have to do it with slightly different personnel. So, I’m not worried who is going to be in the team, I’m just intrigued.
