I've seen Nichols miss 3 simple chances this season. And a couple of half chances. Peterborough away at 0-0 a one on one, hit keeper. Wycombe away, one on one, hit keeper. Southend at home, clear shot inside area not even on target, hit the bar. The whole post loses validity by describing the Southend effort as a clear shot on goal for me. It basically just shows you’re twisting things to suit your narrative.

Surely has to be an unchanged team from that which started against Coventry?

Actually, I think Luke James was something of a turning point for me. His continued inclusion in the team was the first time I started to doubt DC. To have persisted so long with a player that contributes even less than James makes me doubt DCs judgement even further. I don't like it.
Your opinion is that he contributes less than James.
My opinion is he links the midfield and attack, has an excellent touch, good vision and should start.
His goal scoring record is poor and he doesn't get into enough goal scoring areas for me but he does contribute to the team. He was excellent against Wycombe away and Portsmouth at home for example - probably our two best performances of the season. Even this season he's been in and out of the team - just give him ten games up front without chopping and changing - he hasn't had that since he joined.

Why is this necessary? It seems some people, and it’s always the same handful, are obsessed with Nichols and literally can’t post without a dig at him. It’s boring and embarrassing. It’s not just you but like I say, it’s the same handful of posters. He was nowhere near the worst player on that pitch yesterday. Because his continued inclusion in the team could cost us our league 1 place. Smith has a handful of bad games and people want him out of the side, no one says a word. Leadbitter is out of form and people slate him.... nothing. Nichols literally does nothing for 50+ games and I'm embarrassing?? Do me a favour. So if Nichols wasn't the worse player on the pitch, who was? And why is ok for you to single out someone and not me? If my opinion was that Nichols was worse than Leads for example, am I not allowed to say so in a thread discussing the match? It’s not about discussing players in match threads, it’s the obsession that some people have with him that every topic gets a dig at Nichols thrown in. I thought I’d made that fairly clear. I don’t rate some of our players but I don’t dig at them with every post. There was a bloke stood behind me on Saturday who kept on about Nichols touching his hair too much. I find it all really, really weird. It’s way beyond his lack of goals.

Yes, there were negatives... Nichols got game time again.

I'm a massive fan of DC and fully back him still but this season he's started to play players out of position for some reason or another, something he never used to do. The main one that sticks out is Sercombe on the right, I have a feeling he's doing this to try and protect the back four by playing Upson and Clarke in the middle. Hopefully he sees this isn't really working and moves Sercombe back into the middle.
Is it a coincidence that successive managers have come to the conclusion that Sercombe needs to be played out wide?

Thanks for the write up Steve. Broadly agree with you, but the lines red was stonewall. I also would have marked up the ref a bit more. Thought he was decent. Missed a few blatant handballs, but aside from that kept the game going and got all the big calls right. Lets hope Nichols can take last nights performance into Saturday as I was really impressed with him.
Nichols was even better against Wycombe for me.
Last night was not a one off.

Thank you for the report Steve.
I disagree on Bennett to be honest though. Excellent dribbling and skills but his actual final ball is next to non-existent. Should definitely have scored at the end which pretty well summed him up.
A few other things - Payne came off when we still had 11 men in a double sub which included Lines coming on. I haven't seen it back on the highlights but at the time Lines' 'tackle' looked an absolute stone wall red, surprised you think others may have given a yellow as it looked like both feet were up and high.

I think he did well individually but I also think him playing there is a real contributing factor to the lack of width issue.

Has looked like a new signing in the last couple of games. Convinced the goals will follow.

Tom Nichols was excellent today, not sure why we’d loan him out. Played well maybe, but still didn't score again so surely not excellent. We could loan him out as it could benefit us if the club didn't have to pay his wages and if he started scoring again he would gain confidence. Payne didn't score either. The team scored two though and surely that is what matters? If you give Nichols a run in the team playing up front with Payne then he'll score goals. Nichols' game is clearly about more than goals anyway. Watch Craig's header from yesterday and tell me who was on the goalkeeper... Very clever bit of play. His all round game yesterday was really good, so many good touches and flicks to bring other people into the game. There are so many people who genuinely think he's sh** and I just don't see it at all. Very intelligent footballer with a good touch and good build up play and was putting himself about a lot yesterday too. The support from the crowd yesterday said it all.

Got my tickets tonight but they’re for Row A which sounds like it’s gonna be a bit sh**!
Is the general etiquette to sit wherever? I don’t wanna grab a seat and then have to up and move cos I’m in someone’s seat.

He is currently having a medical at Sunderland for a fee of £600,000 rising to £1,000,000. How the hell can we compete with figures like this? I suppose they have now lost interest in Doidge at Forest Green? ?? Pretty easy just reinvest Harrison's money plus £400K bonus if we get promoted? Although if we can't replace Harrison why did we let him go so cheaply? Accrington seems to playing a harder ball game with Ipswich over Kayden Jackson.
Is Jackson out of contract next summer?
