I was watching back the highlights yesterday of our game against Port Vale last season and he missed an absolute sitter from about 8 yards. He missed numerous sitters last season. One that comes to mind was at Wimbledon away I think. that's harsh - it was a great save that one ! Strikers don't score every one on one to be good finishers. just like good keepers do make the odd mistake.

The whole problem last season was that we had no width even when Holmes Dennis played as a wingback and his injury record would make us stupid to rely on him. So far all the problems we had last season still exist but to a worst extent as we no longer have Jacubiak and it sounds a sa if there is an injury doubt already for both THD and JCH. GC has so far just signed players which hopefully brings the defence and goalkeeper maybe somewhere near last seasons level. he has done NOTHING to improve the lack of creativity or to add pace and power to the squad. There is plenty of time still but we need at least 4 more signings and preferably before all the better players are fixed up. Half our problem was caused by not being in a position to play with wingers and only having one player who could score goals regularly. Don't Little and Hare have pace ?

News from the pre-season training ground Jordi is an amazing keeper - no one has yet put one past him JCH has a groin strain and could be binning off the worst of preseason THD in serious jeopardy with his knee - sent home , they don’t know what to do with him . Could be retiring Tom Nichollls looking very sharp Big ticket signing fell through today ....... ........when he's given himself a quick glance in the training ground mirror.

I was wondering where are the pre-season photos ? We usually get a load of those when the boys are back.

In that case delayed not fallen through That’s my wishful thinking! But we are rovers so it probably did fall through! Well ....... normally, but GC and the club have made really good progress with signings this time round

Regarding the player that ‘fell through’ yesterday. The graphics company were booked to come in for a signing. Then got put on standby and then cancelled. I personally think it was scales who wanted to delay the move to play his final game last night. If we are signing him I think it will be announced when we are in Ireland. He won’t come to Bristol for just one day. In that case delayed not fallen through

Hopefully Reilly adapts to the league more this season and can chip in with more goals. Do you believe that ? just asking.

Sounds the same as Bonham - more than happy with Bonham's standard To be fair, at this level, what are you gonna do with a keeper who can pick a pin-point pass at 40 yards. Ping it out to the FB, who most of the time passes it inside to one of our CBs, who then just hoofs it up field, anyway.
not now Lockyer's left

Those 2 goals v Oxford suggest he has goals in him and good ones at that - GC and staff must think this too. He's still only 21/22 and as GC said despite that he's had a few loans here and there. If he puts his roots down he may come good. He also does have a good turn of pace - always an asset up front ! I'd be happy to give him a year with an extension agreement based on appearances/goals (in 1st season). I wouldn't mind taking a punt on Jakubiak but if we can only bring in one striker then I think we need somebody with a better record.
Otherwise we'd be going with the same strikers as last year:
Jakubiak - 2 League Goals, 3 Assists (38 Appearances)
Reilly - 4 League Goals, 0 Assists (30 Appearances)
Nichols - 1 League Goal, 7 Assists (36 Appearances)
Yes I agree - we've got a problem here. I'd happily loan out/sell Nichols or Reilly and get Jak in with possibly one other new forward now Payne's been offloaded and Moore hasn't signed (yet). So JCH, Jak, Reilly or Nichols and a new guy - 4 strikers is the usual number ??

I can't understand why people would want Jakubiak. Of 4 strikers that would mean we would have 1 goalscorer. What happens if JCH can't replicate his outstanding run from last season? Where will the goals come from? Those 2 goals v Oxford suggest he has goals in him and good ones at that - GC and staff must think this too. He's still only 21/22 and as GC said despite that he's had a few loans here and there. If he puts his roots down he may come good. He also does have a good turn of pace - always an asset up front ! What is GC doing !? Signing two players (Little and Jaakkola) who have very recent Championship experience ! Can't we have some more non-league no hopers to keep the mid-summer mood down ?

How many of Div 1 clubs have lost over half a squad though? One more keeper and the defensive unit (including defensive midfielders) more than sorted, with the arrival of the irishman. Very happy with that. If we get a fit and motivated Sercs, Rodman and Bennett, plenty of creativity. Reilly and JCH + one more notable, stick in a raring to go (?) Nicholls and anything extra is a bonus. I'd be surprised if we saw Bennett in quarters again, given that he clearly wasn't part of GC's plans last season plus he doesn't seem to favour right footed left wingers. ok Topper, you carry on panicking

Because of course all those current Championship / Premiership centre halfs have fantastic passing ability....TL was quality for us, and this constant dig at his passing ability is pathetic, lets just accept him for what he was.......a brilliant defender for us. Yes his distribution wasn't always the best - but how much of that is down to the options presented by the rest of the team? With better players giving him better options then, perhaps, that aspect of his game will improve. don't think you can excuse someone's distribution because the players around him are lesser. If you have the ability to pass (in different ways) it will still come to the fore. Tom has some championship level attributes but his passing and heading aren't at that level. Is he going to keep Charlton in the Champ ? Think it's going to be a tough task as they are already losing their best players (even after promotion) - Bauer and Aribo, and uncertain to get Bielik again (loaned from Arsenal).

good luck to him, hope he plays a load of games. will be interested to see how much he plays. Personally, think he'll struggle to stay/get in the side.
