I couldn't make this game so thanks steve192 for the usual excellent in-depth report.
Completely agree about the "bad old days" where a Rovers team away from home would be set up to achieve a draw and if they conceded a goal you might as well leave the ground and go home.
Now we have a team that doesn't give up, have players that can score goals and a manager who is not afraid to go for the win. I'm looking forward to some more great "away days" this season. Long may it continue! UtG

Surely there has to be a genuine reason to make a game all ticket for away fans ie fear of trouble/limited capacity in the away end etc not just to help the police with numbers? I'm pretty sure Rovers away game at St Andrews was pay on the gate and 3,000 turned up there w/o any issues. I doubt even Walsall away will be all ticket from past experience. Fact. There are no cash turnstiles at Sheffield United. All games are by ticket only for both home and away supporters. Tickets for home supporters can be purchased up to kick off time with suitable proof of identity. As I previously posted a quick phone call to them will confirm if the same applies to away supporters. On the BRFC website: Tickets for away supporters can be purchased at the ground before the game this evening- see here.

Is the Ref up before the FA ? The number of bookings is also a reflection of the way the game was refereed. He was a bit card-happy and seemed obsessed with making sure the free-kicks and throw-ins were taken from exactly the right spot. I think at least 4 of the total bookings (Swinedon and us) were for time-wasting (kicking the ball away, etc).

Good article... thanks for posting. Away to Braintree also has bad memories for me as well. Great achievement for Dis. I'll always remember his towering header for the first goal against Lincoln in the play-off semi-final.

Seems I'm firmly in the minority then! Did have a few Chelski mates who said they could barely hear us but have yet to establish if they are just being jealous. Just had the feel of a pre-season friendly cos of the heat, lack of atmosphere from the home fans etc. Thoroughly enjoyed myself though and was proud leaving. I guess it depends where you were sitting. I was in Upper East Stand next to the away end and the Gas choir was very loud. Well done to all who made the trip and sang - it made for a great occasion. Matty's perfect ball over the top for the non-stop Stu to run onto was one for the memory bank! Roll on Saturday and another big turnout at Swindon - UtG.

Phil Brown believes referee Gavin Ward was well within his rights to give Southend United a penalty at Roots Hall this afternoon – and says Bristol Rovers opening goal should have been ruled out for a foul. Rovers boss Darrell Clarke was left fuming after Ward offered Southend United the opportunity to cancel out Peter Hartley's opening goal when deciding that Ellis Harrison had handled the ball in the penalty area on 80 minutes. Clarke labelled the decision as 'ridiculous' after Simon Cox stepped up to coolly despatch the spot-kick to offer Southend a share of the spoils, but Brown said: "It was a harsh penalty but it doesn't matter. "Our players thought it was a definite penalty. The lad has put his hand up to block the ball and he's blocked it." On Hartley's opening goal on the hour mark, Brown complained: "Adam Barrett's man (Hartley) scored but he is on the floor and I thought it was a foul."Brown was more modest about the outcome of the game, when saying: "We could have lost it in the end. "It was one-way traffic in the first 25 minutes, but after that it could have gone either way. "When we went 1-0 down it was doom and gloom for some fans. If I make a mistake then come after me, but they need to stay behind the players." Ha-ha... Phil Brown is an idiot. Just watch the Goal Cam here. You can clearly see Adam Barrett stumble to the ground after the Rovers' players have left him trailing in their wake. Gas score from a corner... woo-hoo... give Hartley a cigar!

As a Distance Gas Head, does anyone know when these will go on sale? How can I get one? I'm in the Supporters Club. Can't get to the Ticket office. The last time I asked how to do this as a non-local BRSC member the ticket office told me that I had to send my membership card to them before the ticket could be sold to me. Best to phone up the ticket office and they will give you the details and the exact price you have to pay (including postage, etc). If you have any mates or family in Brizzle then it's easier if you send your BRSC card to them and get them to go to the Mem and buy the ticket. Hope this helps! UtG

I thought it was because blue and white quarters were the Duke of Beauforts jockeys racing colours ? I have seen it said that Shankly changed Liverpool to all red to make the players look bigger/more imposing. I started going in 1967 and Rovers wore blue shirts with white trim for the first 5 or 6 seasons that I went, imagine my shock when one day they turned out in quarters !..I have got used to them now but I cant honestly say that I like them. Even worse is that soppy badge and the sponsors and kit makers name on shirts, tacky describes it well. From 1897-1900 the club adopted the then Duke of Beauforts Blue and White 'Badminton Hoops but in 1900 changed to Black and White stripes up to the first world war. When the league resumed in 1920 and Rovers joined the football league they played in White shirts and Blue Shorts changing in the mid twenties to Blue shirts and White shorts until the then manager Capt.Albert Prince -Cox introduced quarters in 1931 to make the players appear bigger! The quarters were disbanded in 1962 the reason given was the shirts tore too easily along the line of the quarters. there then followed eleven years of Blue and White in various forms until in 1973 and by popular demand the quarters were revived ,the decision was received with general approval and the team celebrated by winning promotion in the first season. Yes. 1962-66 Rovers had blue and white stripes of varying thickness, and then all blue from 1966-73 before returning to the beloved and unique blue and white quarters. I always hated the all blue strip and was very happy to see the quarters return. See complete history of kit colours here.

Billy Bodin was Man of the Match for me. The first goal is the crucial one and he's contributed several of these this season. Always looked a threat on Saturday, seen a steady improvement in him since he's been getting (fairly) regular starts.

The BRFC Youtube Goal Cam is a great for getting a different view of the Gas goals. For the second you can see Taylor getting a big shove in the back as the ball first comes over but he doesn't go to ground and appeal, just gets himself ready to snap up any afters. Also with that goal I saw the Yeovil players appealing for something - at the time I assumed it was for a Gaffney handball - but after watching the goal-cam view I think they must be appealing for the ball going out of play. And a nice rendition of "You're not singing anymore"...

I think Hartlepool could be a major factor as to who goes up automatically this year . They are 5th in the form table ,and they have to play Accrington / Plymouth / Portsmouth I agree - they have been on great form since the Gas whacked them 4-1. Come on the Monkey Hangers!

Hi Guys, Wanted to send praise to you guys for the come back yesterday, we threw away the 3 points. Couple of good changes from your gaffer. The two sets of fans shared some good banter. I don't see any reason why you won't join us in League One next season. The only sour notes really were the idiots who felt it necessary to pelt our keeper with bottles etc, from where I was sat it looked like our keeper actually took a knock to the jaw.. but thats irrelevant now. Anyway good luck in the rest of the season, and on reflection a point was fair. See you next season. I don't condone the throwing of plastic bottles onto the pitch, at the time I didn't think the keeper was hit by one - a fact confirmed by the Goal Cam footage on Youtube. He holds his jaw after he held onto the ball and Ellis wrestles it off him. Northampton player booked for diving earlier on so I suspect this was just another piece of play-acting.
