We were bound to lose one, if not two games or possibly three on the run in and there were always going to be twists and turns. But, without any doubt those twists and turns will also strike the other teams in the promotion race. I still think that we will be strong enough to battle back into the automatic promotion places.
Before today, I thought that it will take 5 more wins to do it and I don't see that that is an impossible task. I have a funny feeling that it will be US and Accrington that make it and that Oxford and Plymouth could fall over.

The most amazing stat of them all is that I am on the verge of beating my previous record of 17 "Memorial Ground Pasties" in a season. Only one pasty to go in this incredible season and I am predicting that I match my previous PB with a comfortable pasty against Crawley.
I am looking at the BBC predictor ad I think that there is a chance that I could beat my own record with a slightly edgy pasty against Exeter.
If that is achieved then who knows............ The pressure could be off and the D&R game on the last day of the season could become a Pasty Party !!!!!

I hope that Rovers get automatic promotion, but the last 5 wins have been against bottom half of table teams and the last 9 games include Cambridge,Carlisle and Northampton...then 'derby' games against Exeter and Yeovil..even the last 2 games against lowly York and Dagenham could see them already relegated with the pressure off of them..so a run in that could be more tricky than it looks. 18 points out of a possible 27 should ( I think) see Rovers promoted, but it might be very close, lets hope that York away isn't a rerun of Dover last season,if they win they are promoted,I hope that its sorted by then. Wimbledon are still in the top half. Not only that, but when we played them they were on a good run of form and pushing for a play off spot. Part of the reason that they have dropped down the league is because they didn't get points against us. The same could be said of Mansfield. Newport maybe in the bottom half but, when we played them, they were flying in the "10 game" form table. We shouldn't underestimate the achievements of our last 5 results.
Every game from here on in is a potential banana skin but the same can be said of the run ins that Oxford, Plymouth's, Accy and Portsmouth have.
There will be twists and turns along the way but we can do this - one game at a time.
To contradict another post on here - we are ready for promotion - and how great it would be to build for the future from a basis of League 1 and not league 2.

What a GREAT GREAT performance AND result!!!! That game had "Banana Skin" written all over it after Newport's result at Portsmouth last week and I am sure a lot of us would have taken a draw at 12:33 after they went one up. But what a team, what spirit - We really do have our Rovers back.
The early kick off also allows us to celebrate the afternoon away and, for a couple of hours anyway, become closet Luton, Barnet, D&R and Mansfield supporters.
UTG, but...... come on Luton!!!!!

I think that, in part anyway, the point that the OP was making was that we should not expect the new owners to dive straight into the project to build the new stadium. The physical plans for the stadium itself and the business plans for the use of the stadium and the development of the football club were drawn up by the old Board. As such they will have been devised on the basis of the Old Board's plans for the club and, maybe more importantly, the budget constraints of the Old Board.
The new owners may have different budgetary constraints and, I hope, higher ambitions. It is only to be expected that they will take their time to scrutinise the existing plans and identify areas where modifications and improvements can be made (for instance, the purchase rather than the lease of the land at UWE).
I agree with the OP - The court case would have been a massive bonus if it had been won, but I sincerely doubt that they were banking on a victory when they purchased the shares and paid off the Club's debt. They have already said on numerous occasions that the stadium development was not dependent on the outcome of the court case.
In any event, I suspect that an even bigger bonus to them would be the possibility of promotion to League 1 this year. What a start that would be to their time at the reins. Lets not get deflected by the court case and simply focus on getting behind the team and winning the next few games.

They have already said on numerous occasions that the development of the new stadium was not dependent on this court case or on the sale of the Mem to Sainsbury's.
I am not sure what else they can say.

I believe that we were partly at fault for relying on a watertight contract that wasn't quite so watertight as it seemed. I also think that we were naïve to go to the appeal court on what seems like quite a threadbare case, which has now been overturned.
I also think that Sainsbury's were at fault - they entered into a contract but the retail economy started to turn against them. They obviously changed their minds and did everything they could to get out of it. They have successfully done that now.
If it were not for the takeover, I do think that we would now be in a very difficult financial position - and with very little hope. As it is, we can look forward to much brighter things to come. Our future no longer depended on the outcome of this case.
As for Sainsbury's - well we all have our own way of expressing our dissatisfaction with them. I for one will be making sure that I don't frequent their premises again and trying to convince my friend that they should consider the benefits of Messrs Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and Waitrose

What are the potential outcomes from today. In my mind I can see 3 possibilities:
1 The original decision is upheld. We keep the Mem (and 31 Filton Avenue) and Sainsbury's are absolved of any liability. We pay legal fees, which I believe are held as a charge in the accounts anyway.
2 The original decision is overturned and Sainsbury's are forced to uphold the contract to purchase the Mem.
3 That Sainsbury's are judged in breech of contract and are forced to pay damages but not forced to uphold the contact.
Under 2 or 3 the club will get some money in the bank which may hasten the progress of the new development. However, does anyone know if the the purchase of the club by Dwayne Sports had any conditions to pay part of any settlement to the old shareholders.

just because you threaten to cut off an air stewardesses hands doesn't make you un-cool....
that was ian brown anyway, and that dude is a legend....
Yeah, a mate of mine used to have three stewardesses hands nailed to his wall, when he was in a band, and he was a pretty decent bloke, too. It must be a really bad day - That post really made me laugh.
I was just starting to get maudlin too - after the comments in the thread about the REM Song "Everybody Hurts" - I have literally just learnt the chord progression for the song and had just given my first practice rendition of it to the dog (he was not impressed).

It will be quite interesting to see how DC manages the new era.
Up until now he has had to work within a tightly constrained budget and has build a squad of players drawn mainly from non-league status. He has got them playing and, in my opinion anyway, overachieving as a team. We are all applauding the fact that we have "got our Rovers back". Every single player seems to want to put in their shift, and more importantly they want to win for the club. They play together as a team, and seem to be just as much a team off the pitch as on it. Maybe that has evolved as part of the "backs to the wall" mentality.
I do hope that the availability of funds doesn't change any of that. I kind of agree that we need cover for the central midfield due to the current injuries - but I would hate to see the spirit of the club lost if we brought in the wrong type of player.

Yeah, it's gonna be closer to 85 than 78 this year, I would think. Looking at that it's a tough ask 7 wins from 10 but our fixtures suggest it's doable so hopefully 83 will be enough even if we lose the other 3 ? We have to do this one game at a time - if you try to do anything else, it becomes a mountain to climb.

We have had an amazing journey over the last two seasons.
On top of that we have had a really intense time since the beginning of the Christmas period. A fantastic run of form and results over Christmas; the hoo-ha surrounding the signing of Gaffney; a fantastic result against Oxford; followed by a disappointing performances on the road against Accy, Portsmouth and then Wycombe; and then the euphoria of the take-over.
Since then, the spirit in the camp has secured a run of 4 successive league wins and now we are looking upwards at the possibility of the automatic promotion places.
What a ride - I feel just about as knackered as the Playing Squad must certainly be.
Time to take a deep breath, a short rest to recharge whatever needs recharging, and to look forward to the run in. There will be twists and turns all along the way, but, keep the spirit going, and we can do this.

It is interesting how much more "press" references that we are getting since the takeover (in all sorts of different ways too).

As excuses go, I thought it wasn't bad. I took my inspiration from the abandoned Wycombe game. If they can get away with it, then why can't I - lol
