Not much more really than anyone else might have done. Given a contract to a manager that was already here, signed a few players and staff, mostly loans or free transfers, painted a bar, renewed a pitch that was due to be renewed. Paid for by a charge against the ground, not 'new' money. All fine good, but hardly makes him a saviour.
Our success on the pitch is largely down to one man, Darrell Clarke, who has made silk purses out of sow's ears.
Why didnt Dunford/Higgs do it then? To say not more than anybody else would of done is not true, seeing as nobody else did it. I didnt say he was a saviour. No offence but you're talking absolute nonsense. Because they were incompetent. You didn't say saviour, sipirate did, which is who I originally quoted.

You could say that, but its still far more than our previous people at the helm had/have done. Better better than awful doesn't make him a saviour, and certainly doesn't justify the kind of blind faith that some are imploring.

To play devil's advocate - what has he actually done? As small as they are, he's improved the rediculously sh** facilities into not as sh** facilities, improved the pitch, kept hold of one of our greatest managers, esembled a backroom staff not seen at this club before and we're signing players both permanently and on loan of the quality we haven't seen for about 20 years. He's done more in 18 months than any of our other owners have done in the last 2 decades. Not much more really than anyone else might have done. Given a contract to a manager that was already here, signed a few players and staff, mostly loans or free transfers, painted a bar, renewed a pitch that was due to be renewed. All of you guys posting negative stuff about our owner, get out of the clubs way, you are the ones holding us back. I have been nothing short of impressed with Wael and his commitment. If Wael didn't come in, we would of been bent over backwards by UWE and on a definite downward spiral with the new stadium. Its hilarious that some people would actually prefer we put ourselves in a bad situation just to start building a new stadium that we will make a loss on. WAKE UP. I am disgusted with the treatment of Wael on here in the last few days, despicable, he has saved our rotting club. To play devil's advocate - what has he actually done?

I wrote a longish letter to Steve Hamer back in April expressing my concerns about the Mem and saying that it is not acceptable that a club like Rovers playing in league have such poor facilities for the fans and suggesting improvements that could be made to the Mem. Steve Hamer wrote back agreeing with everything I put in my letter, he was still hopeful at that time that UWE would still go ahead, but said that if it didn't then the club would be looking at ways they can improve/ develop the Mem. From the tone of his letter I am not at all surprised the plug being pulled on UWE. It appears that we will be staying at a revamped Mem. I have a feeling that the club does have the finance for a new stadium, if we have to borrow £10 million against the Mem how are we going to afford £30 million plus towards a new stadium. Good man for making that effort, rather than just complaining on a forum.

Bang on Pucklegas. It's the lack of communication from the organ grinder and the pathetic utterances from the Monkey that quite set me off today! Showed massive lack of respect for the fans, and I'm sure they would have said nothing if they hadn't been under pressure to do so. Agreed. We could be like the Crazy Gang! I.e. enjoy a brief period of success through playing rubbish football, go bust, have the club's league membership sold to another town and restart in the Downs league. Cheers Steve!

What do you have to stay to the thousands of fans?: "Its my 54th start to the season, wait for Charlton. We have a young manager, stick with us. I'm very confident that this is a day we both regret." Why does he keep saying that? Doesn't he know what the phrase means, for god's sake? Will we be looking back, regretting this day, from the conference again?

He's definitely, definitely setting it up for a redevelopment of the Mem. "Hamer: Alternative sites for the stadium in the area are very few and far between" That's what we'll do; cheap option as always. That's it then for this football club to be honest. League One football at best. Most likely L2/non-league. Get a ST this year if you haven't already as it's likely to be the highest standard of football you'll see from us for the next century or so. The club's ceiling has literally dropped by about 200,000ft overnight. We got to 'the championship' while at Twerton. Bournemouth are Prem. Burton are Championship. Scunthorpe were Championship with tiny gates. It's difficult but not impossible. Breifly, for us and Scunthorpe. Bournemouth and Burton have heavy external financing. Noone expects Burton to stay up in the long term. All unsustainable situations. Someone should tell our chairman what happened to Wimbledon.

And the all important Feasibility Study came back positive, apparently. Presumably the FS would have been based on the agreements reached at that time - around 12 months after the takeover. Has one party moved the goalposts so far since then that a deal can't now be made? Something just doesn't add up. “A new stadium has to be built. We cannot be sustainable if we stay at the Memorial,” Qadi says. “But we inherited this situation and we did find some issues which we had to address, and it takes time because UWE are a public institution; it’s not a private company where the CEO can say: ‘Let’s get rid of this condition.’ We hired Ernst & Young, they’re doing the feasibility study and they should be done very soon, so it’s a gradual process. But if we want to succeed, a new stadium has to happen.” June 1st... 'Today Hamer has spoken out in an interview with the club confirming that discussions are still very much in progress.' He assured fans that there was nothing to suggest that the stadium won’t happen. He said: “I have been very honest about that we are still talking and negotiations are taking place as we speak now. “So until one side or the other says we can’t do it or we don’t want to do it, we keep going on and we keep trying to achieve it." Today... Professor West said: “It is disappointing and very surprising. We felt we had made fantastic progress. We are disappointed that we haven’t been able to give Bristol Rovers and the local community a high quality stadium.” The Vice Chancellor claims he has had no contact from Dwane Sports despite sending emails. There are no meetings between the club and the university currently in the diary. Professor West said: “We are working off the assumption that there has been a pull out by Dwane Sports who have announced that they are closing discussions." If that's the case, then the fans deserve answers. That's not how you treat a partner, an important local business.

As I understand it, the quickets way from West London is tube to Charing Cross, then National Rail to Charlton station. There are other options though, as others have said.
Cheapest option on the network is probably to use a contactless credit/debit card, you get charged the same as an Oyster card

______________Smith Leadbitter__Lockyer__Broadbent__Brown ______________Clarke _________Lines____Sercombe ____Bodin_____Gaffney_____Moore Based on the pre-season teams. Threre's a few equally good options now though, so it will probably largely depend on how DC thinks Charlton will play. Personally really looking forward to this one, I haven't been to an opening day away game since AFC Wimbledon DC played Ellis at Yeovil and didn't even take Gaffers, so it'll be interesting to see if Ellis or Gaffers starts tomorrow. True, and after Saturday's fine performance my guess has probably changed again. Sinclair, the solution to our left winger gap, who'd have thought it

There's nothing racist - or indeed, PC - about seeing a situation and dealing with it. This is just recognising that there are less people of colour in a crowd then you would expect by comparing to the local population, and wondering why.
If I looked at the Mem crowd and noticed that there are less short people in it then I would expect, I'd also wonder why - is it because they can't see very well through a crowd? What could the club do about it, to make short people feel welcome?
Its all just making sure that the club isn't missing out on a potential additional group of fans.
The usual refrain of the PC brigade it's about equality. It could be about short or tall or fat people or why women earn the same at Wimbledon for 3/5 ths the work but it never is it? They always bang on about race and religion. Like a bunch of management consultants they'll make sure there us a 'problem' they can solve, and if that problems looks like going away and making them redundant they'll be making sure that racial and religious discrimination continues. f**king parasites. Simple solution if you think some group is under represented invite some along. Appreciate it offends some to actually do something about a problem rather just tell others to solve it Well I can't speak for other people, and I particularly can't speak for this 'PC brigade' I'm supposed to belong to. I didn't even know I was a member of this organisation, I must check my wallet for the membership card. Hope they aren't taking a fee.
And there I was thinking I'd come to an opinion through observation and exercise of conscious thought. Well there we go.

Thanks Oldgas, I think my decision is final because I have enjoyed the summer and have too many hobbies which take up a lot of time and really three hours after the match I just can't afford anymore. I will continue to participate in the forum and will still be going to all matches. Cheers You should try not to let your hobby get in the way of normal life. I had the same problem, it was a struggle but I managed to get my hobby down to 3 times a week. I have a lot more spare time, and my wrists ache less too.
Try to distract yourself if you get the urge to indulge your hobby, I ate more biscuits and took up smoking.

I sort of agree. The first step to treating someone differently is to single them out!! That said, this article did say they went in with bias assuming racism was at play, only to reveal....er, it wasn't. Got doubt their numbers too. They only counted 6 black/ethnic minorities?? Where did they stand and how long did they count for?? I accept the fan base is predominantly White though. Terribly sad that the PC brigade don't see a person but have to label everyone black or white, Christian or Muslim. Perhaps we should go the whole hog and provide a selection of badges for everyone to wear a nice LGBT or BAME or second class (for straight white non disabled men) or a star if David for Jewish people, you know just something inoffensive. With all the space at the new UWE we could even provide segregated areas for each minority. These PC types certainly believe in progress and ensuring racism and religious discrimination is kepr alive and kicking There's nothing racist - or indeed, PC - about seeing a situation and dealing with it. Completely agree with you Steve, also Nichols may be an improvement on James but as DC said, he's a replacement for Taylor.. is he gonna score that many goals?? I'm not so sure Not sure I ever understand this argument when it's brought up. How many Gasheads after we signed Taylor from FGR's bench thought 'yep, there's a man who'll go on to score 20+ in L2 and L1'. Maybe DC. Anyone else? Also, if we care going to include Taylor in the 'outs', then surely we have to include Burns and Partington in the 'Ins'?
