To say I was gobsmacked when I read this would be a vast understatement. I knew Brian for over 50 years and he is a part of Rovers' cultural history, to me (as alluded to by John Malyckyj). Orgasmic mentioned Brian's kindness. I can vouch for that. When my marriage ended and I had to return to England from the US, where I was living, my brother told Brian about it and Brian got in touch immediately to offer to take me for a pint and a curry and to offer his support. That was typical of him: he always looked after his mates. A few posters have mentioned his time on the old Gaslist. True to form he was controversial but yes, he did enjoy winding people up and as I mentioned on that list at one time, he had an acerbic sense of humour. He could not give a monkey's what anyone thought about him. If they did not like him, it was no skin off his nose. He was always true to himself and there were definitely no airs and graces to Brian. He is a very sad loss. R.I.P. Bri.

Ozzy goes wild infront of the south stand Surprised he didn't get booked for inciting the crowd. If fans had been allowed in, I reckon the South Stand Ultras would have been throwing their knee blankets on the pitch.

Four of the teams we're playing in the next 6 league games are likely to struggle or at least finish bottom half. Anything less than 8 would be very disappointing given the opposition and would mean we'd still be very close to the relegation zone going into a tougher looking November. I'd still be in the BG out camp if we don't get 8+. If we get 8, 9 or 10 I'd be on the fence. 11+ and I'd accept real progress has been made. We must take the initiative that WE are going to be play-offs or better and play to our full potential because I do not think that has been anywhere near realised yet. I believe that once BG gets his team selection sorted, Rovers will be fine.

Jaakkola 6 Not much to do but was efficient.
Baldwin 7.5 Did OK in defence and the goal was a great bonus. Ehmer 7 Again, did OK. Northampton never looked a danger. Harries 7.5 Has skills belying a defender.
Hare 7 Always likely to spring an attacking surprise. Grant 6.5 Some nice touches but could get more involved. Westbrooke 5 Definitely skilful but flatters to deceive and definitely avoids even 70/30 situations. I can see why Coventry let him go. McCormick 6 Again has some good skill but not up to speed yet. Tutonda 8 I like his seemingly languid style. Very calming.
Daly 7 Hard working. Kept harassing their defence.. Hanlan 8.5 MUCH better. Put himself about and was excellent in his hold up play.
Subs: Nicholson 5.5 Found positions well but did not convert them. Hargreaves 5 OK. Did not have enough time to stamp himself on the game.
Ref 4.5. Too stifling. Northampton 4 Did not look threatening and their heads dropped too readily.

Just my opinion but last season we were at our best with Nichols in the team. He’ll probably do well at a smaller club like Swindon without the pressure. "Smaller club"? What a supercilious opinion (IMO). When were we last in the Prem? What trophies have we won in the last 20 years? That attitude will get the club nowhere. There is no big club/small club in this league. They are all at their level for a reason. Rovers are a 3rd tier team and have to prove themselves better than the rest, in order to progress.

Back to the OP I guess it depends on what time frame you are using, given we've twice started a season in the old L1, now Championship, after being promoted they've got to be better season's, as was our first back in Bristol, plus the first season in L1 under DC has to take some beating, as does just starting back in L2, so I'd rank it 6th, although not sure when we had better prospects for the season ahead, probably under Buckle!! Not sure I'm that worried about BG's ability anymore as the way Wael's spending money then if he does start off poorly I sense he'll be gone PDQ, as it looks like Wael's going for at least a top 6 finish, if so, he won't want us floundering in mid table or lower for long. He's probably already told Nigel Clough to hang fire for a month or two just to see how things go!! I was really excited by the appointment of Buckle and the season ahead. More than I had been for many, many years. What a let down he was, to be polite. BTW, do he and Trump use the same make up? "Buckle's first act as Bristol Rovers manager was to successfully persuade Torquay assistant manager Shaun North, goalkeeper Scott Bevan and striker Chris Zebroski to join him. After signing a total of 19 players, and releasing or selling 19 of Rovers' existing players from the previous season's relegation, a run of four wins from the first ten games left the club in mid-table. However, things quickly worsened, with the club winning only two further league games before January and Buckle publicly falling out with Bristol Rovers' fan favourite Stuart Campbell, who he released from his contract in December 2011. Buckle's position at the club became increasingly unstable following home defeats to Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle that left the club just outside the relegation zone and, on 3 January 2012, he was sacked by Bristol Rovers after a 2–0 loss to struggling Barnet."So, at the risk of another pratfall, I think this could be one of the most exciting seasons ever to be a Rovers fan. I have faith that Ben Garner will prove his worth. He has many people who rate him as a coach. OK, he may have been more involved with the younger levels of players until his appointment with Rovers but some of the people he has worked with view him with great respect. He has made some signings that, to be honest, have been staggering by our previous performances in the transfer market. THAT, is where the difference is between the Buckle anticipation and that of BG, in my opinion. BG has bought young, (apparently) hungry, not to mention skilful players, with a couple of worldly wise very capable older heads. Buckle bought players that seemed to be good at our level but he failed to manage them, or to show any managerial skills whatsoever..

It is frequently bandied around that towards the end of the season, players raise their game to try to get a new contract. I cannot see that opportunity existing this season, as I cannot see it finishing before June 30th, if it finishes at all.
That raises the question, if the season does restart and does extend beyond June 30th, what would a club do about someone whose contract has expired? I guess they could play them on a per game contract or a monthly contract but what if they are tapped up or legitimately receive an offer from another club after 30th June? If it really detrimentally had an effect on a club's final position, it could be argued that the club had lost the players that were intended to see out the season, through no fault of their own and that they would not have been in such a position had the season finished on time: albeit that would be based on previous form and results could not, obviously, be guaranteed.
I do not envy the task of the decision makers at the FA , EFL or Prem.

What the f**k is this thread about? Has everyone lost their minds?? Sh1!heads the lot of them. Other than Philips I can even remember a decent reject we've had off them. Some of you need to self isolate. And take a shower. Trevor Jacobs was great for us. But he may have been before your time, Hugo.

Patience people. All good things come to those who wait. I don’t disagree Dr Gas, but, after 55 years, it’s a long time coming. And I love your optimism, typical gashead! 😉 UTG! Too true. I have been optimistic for 58 years in April (no one upmanship intended btw)

I too used to travel from 'artcliffe (I live in the posh end, not the bit by Toddy, BTW ) I started going to games on my own in 1963, when I was just 9 years old. I was the old un of our group and used to take my younger brother, when he was just 4 years old, as well as having younger mates coming along. I can remember one Boxing Day game against Swansea in 1970 when our entourage of about 10 walked to and from the game. I was 17 by then and my next door neighbour was 16 but the rest, my brothers and their friends, were all under 14. I did the walk back in 1970 Vyv, with a different mob. Wasn’t that the one where it was freezing cold & ended 0-0? Yep and I had a blinding toothache. Not a great day all round really because the weather was miserable too.
