I think at home we've been paying to much respect to our visitors this season
we need to get control of centre mid and dictate the play so I would go 4-3-3 for the rest of the season
Bonham
parts locks tone THD
ogogo
lines Sercs
rodders JCH Nichols
with parts & THD being able to provide the width playing Sercs in a more central role
being able to switch back to a 442 to protect a lead if necessary

I’d be happy playing Clarke there, he’s probably been our player of the year so far and has always played well as part of a back three. I’d also be happy with playing Meneyese’s replacement there assuming he’s a natural CB of sufficient quality. If the money is being used to bring in a striker, it's worth the risk. At the end of the window, I will rethink if it's a good move. I think the problem we've got is the players that have left/loaned are low wage players
When you look at Bennett who is on supposedly £4k a week I wouldn't be surprised if Martin/Broadbent/Ruess/Bagdadi are not on that wage combined
and now we've got Slocombe back on our wage bill if they are adamant to stay within the FFP rules !
If we are trying to get a Proven lge1 striker & lf Wael & co will not donate then we will have to move on one or two more to give us a fighting chance
unfortunately if Bennett's wages are a benchmark then Upson/Payne/Rodman/Bonham/Craig's wages are all going to be top end I would imagine

I think DC did us proud and forever grateful but he strangled himself this season getting twisted about things he had no control over I think the vast majority of fans were torn about him - divided in our minds between loyalty to the club and loyalty to the man I've said this before on other threads - he wasn't the chairman , he was paid to get us results and it didn't happen I never once called for his head but realisation that his stubborn fixation with Nicholls, tinkering and "projects" DID NOT WORK THIS SEASON made anything other than the action taken absolute folly I shudder to think where we would be now without the ten Xmas points ...... So Coughlan deserves his chance, he gets what we are all about and is unfettered by broken promises and ideas above our level I think he will restore pride in the shirt and confidence and that can take you a long way ..... I agree but I also think the downturn in results coincided with him passing his coaching badges
now is silly as that seems I think he tried to implement a lot of new techniques, formations & stats that he learnt from the courses that were to advanced for the players to follow
since GC has come in by his own admission we've gone "back to basics" with players concentrating on what they are good at rather than trying to do thinks that they are not
As we know from DC's interviews he wouldn't give Jak a run in the side because of the things he wasn't good at instead of the things he was proved to be his Achilles heal !

Unfortunately the only players I can see going/leaving are Bonham and Sercs.... I think if that's the case we can kiss our league one status goodbye
we should be building a team around Sercs

Pros & Cons
IMO this is how the candidates line up
Holloway Pros = experienced-worked all divisions-good contacts-gasheadish-unfinished business Cons = been before-love/hate character-outspoken-poss short option
Flynn pros = young-early success-aggressive style cons = one club-lack contacts-aggressive style-buy out contract-not managed above lg2
Cotterill pros = experienced-success at this level-good contacts-out of work cons = want large budget-sheedhead-explosive-high salary-struggle to turn the gasheads-short term fix
Hurst pros = successful in shortish career-good tactician-good player spotter-out of work-dc mould Cons = failed at higher level-dc's mate-may be jump again
Archibald = loyal-young-worked with small budget-cheap wages Cons = never worked south border-contacts limited-end up like magoo with a lot of 2nd rate scots-poss long term
Garner = young-hungry- good contacts-cheap wages-out of work-pirate rates him-long term option cons = inexperienced-never managed-unproven-tough 1st appointment
feel free to add your opinions for me Hurst now but if we are prepared to drop and rebuild then give Garner a go

I still feel we should make every effort to attract Paul Hurst in my opinion he’s the ideal man for the job after his achievement at Shrewsbury I agree and the fact it didn't work out at Ipswich will curb his ambition to jump ship & manage in the championship at the drop of a hat again
so would be more of a long term option

He has been crap since he has been here. And given his age. Its really difficult seeing him improve. I’d rather see Broadbent alongside Meyenese for a few games. All the best sides in league 1 always seem to have two massive Center half’s. Trouble is he's a one trek pony, experienced I will give him that but slow/one footed/predictable/not good in the air & without Bonham behind us our defensive record would be far worse and we'd be rock bottom

I've enjoyed watching DC's brand of football over his tenure & his heart on the sleeve approach but...
he publicly criticised the pitch last season its like a bowling green this season and we've been bloody awful on it
he constantly criticised the owners in public and you can't keep doing that unless your at the top of the table and bomb proof as frustrated we all are its something that should be behind close doors and in public should show a united front
This happens up and down the country in our league Blackpool/Charlton spring to mind they seem to be doing ok
The buck stops with the manager its not been good enough thanks DC but time for a change
Lets hope our new man is as good if not better Sh%t happens normally to us UTG

I would bring back the Blue Flames
They would love it now on our carpet of a pitch whereas before doing a high kick and slipping on the mud quire on their backsides

I think we are crossing the ball in but when you have Payne who doesn't get of the deck & Nichols at 5ft nothing against 6FT plus defenders you are never going to get much change when there set and the balls put in high
What it needs is Nichols and Payne to be getting in front the first defender and getting the ball in lower in "the corridor of uncertainty" the area keepers don't know whether to come & defenders don't like touching the ball in case results in a OG two examples Wimbledon OG & Gillingham Nearly OG keeper pulled off great save Two other observations from last season to this = Ellis & Gafs are high press forwards never let defenders have a break then they make mistakes falls to them or midfielders who benefit goals from it
We don't have that now I noticed Nichols comes deep & wide to link play but then leaves Payne isolated & static in the middle
So my conclusion is if we continue as we are we need a tall target man to compete with big defenders

Trouble is we've been spoilt by DC's Sh%t or Bust football over his tenure
Many of his predecessors have been boring awful football languishing at the bottom of the football league with no hope of progressing eventually dropping out
Ok the owners are vague to say the least but we are not going to the wall and we've all seen them come & go
But were still Gashead's till we die whether we like it or not
We were there at Twerton when we rose from the ashes that's what we do
I'll be there 100% to support my club

Last night was very disappointing but we were never going to win it the cup that is. I think its more embarrassing than anything else just taken a load of crap this morning !!
A good result at Charlton & a win against Gillingham and this will be erased from our memories
we are not a million miles off just need a bit of confidence and some of our experienced players to step up fine lines between winning & losing
I feel for DC at the moment we are not performing' too many not turning up difficult one IMO we are not playing bad football just a bit of luck & a few decisions go our way would make all the difference
I've been watching rovers for over 30 years and I've got to say DC's style of football is some of the most enjoyable I've Witnessed
everybody is blaming the transfers/owners etc.. but it's a business that's losing a lot of money & bankers are not going to allow that
So the question is does he pursue with the experienced players hoping they turn it around or give fringe/development players a chance ?
I think there is something on the horizon there has got to be but the silence is not helping
if DC has not turned it round by Jan there will be funds to change it DC is very good at smoke & mirrors damping down expectation
IMO the experienced players will come through keep the faith UTG

Just a thought, but can anyone remember the last manager to resign? You know, hold their hands up and say "Sorry, I can't do this and the club needs to find someone who can" The last manager I can recall was Kevin Keegan as England manager , after we had lost at home to Germany . I seem to remember Holloway leaving Pallace in that way. How about Mick McCarthy from Ipswich

Hopefully this window will have a bit more influence From TW. I can only see one in one out policy so I think Bonham got to be a target permanent with Slocombe permanent out
defence by its own record this season good enough as a 4 or 5 with THD hopefully back to full fitness be great to see him & leads wing backs so Martin to go back with Kelly cover
Midfield I think plenty more to come from Sercs not hit the heights of last season yet, Lines in good form not played enough , Mathews Developing , Bennett Great to watch just not enough end product
Upson I think DC feels he has to play him now brought him in I guess as a top earner ? Rodman just haven't seen the best yet ! Tin hat on Sincs weak link we all know his strong points but lacks technical ability and at his age his engine will drop of a cliff at some point
Forwards our main problem ! for me our problems is we've taken away two players that never let defences have a minutes piece Ellis & Rory Forced a lot of mistakes from high press helping the midfield & strikers to score more of which is not happening any more Payne does a token chase now and again but with no real conviction & Tom is lightweight & more technical & Jak & reilly are two similar. I think with Rory he worked a lot off the ball which went unappreciated so need to bring a player more in that mould for me
THB I don't think we are far off a few wins Confidences is massive Tin hat on again but I think Tom will get double figures in Goals this season once he gets one! it will be like London Buses UTG

FA cup Liverpool 2-1 rovers what a day incredible support great goal from billy O right behind it watched grobalar diving thinking he's not getting that ended up about six rows lower
LDV cup rovers 1-0 S$*t full house / underdogs / cut the atmosphere with a knife & hero lambert comes up with the strike
league 2 rovers 2-1 Dagenham lucky to get a ticket sold out then offered tickets for away terrace went online just at the right time. I think along with most gasheads in this situation supporting for many years we don't get much luck so on that day the luck gods were shining down on us (despite it pi$%ing down on us in the open away end)just loved it everyone talks about browners winner but bodins equaliser was world class under pressure to get back in the game calmly waltzed past three/four defenders some twice and slotted home
