I would have taken a point before, especially at a ground we always loose at and often ship three or more goals. Of course we all end up being a little disappointing when we had the chance to win. I am not so sure about those who say the same player should not take two penalties. Of course if we had someone like Lambert then he would take every one. Our other recent penalty takers were on the bench. JCH had already scored one and has experience at taking penalties. How many other players on the pitch at the time had taken a penalty in a match before? Probably hardly any of them! I like to think GC has an order of takers based on who he thinks is the best. If Nichols had come off the bench maybe he would have taken the second penalty? It was a shocker in terms of technique but the idea was right for a second penalty, smash it down the middle. He is a handful though and the pompey back four wouldn’t have enjoyed playing against him.

Keep saying soft defence bit strange how our GD is much better than most in the bottom half!?!? Probably because we rarely seem to concede normal goals, it’s usually from defensive calamities Plus Bonham has saved us how many times this season? Most goals do come from errors, unless you’re Man City or Liverpool at the moment.

Our soft defence again. I know we have a good GD considering where we are - but our defence is always a clanger about to happen Keep saying soft defence bit strange how our GD is much better than most in the bottom half!?!?

The man has never managed a football club though, he is a coach. Just because Rickie Lambert thinks all those things, it doesn't mean he will be an instant success. As other suggested, it would be risky to bring someone new and unproven in a managers role, id rather see stability until the end of the season. Players know GC and are picking up points under him. What happens after the new manager honeymoon period is over, will the players still buy into Coughlan's methods? Garner has been preparing for this sort of role for years now. He has a background in educational middle management which taught him about planning and organisation, and also the importance of empathy and understanding the human side of coaching/management. He has psychology/Neuro Linguistic Programming qualifications, the UEFA Pro License and the LMA Diploma in Applied Management. He was responsible for the likes of planning and delivering training sessions, analysing the opposition, and delivering the team meetings to the players at West Brom. Most weeks he would be out watching matches to analyse an upcoming opponent or to look for potential recruitment targets. He has taken charge as manager for EFL Trophy games and pre-season friendlies. He has thousands of coaching sessions in his locker, hundreds of players worked with, thousands of games watched and almost 200 games coaching at senior level with five seasons in the Premier League competing against some of the best players, teams, and coaches in the World, working under managers with more than 4,000 games and 14 promotions under their belts. He's more than ready IMHO. I completely respect your views and knowledge pirate, on paper it looks a no brainer. Does he have what most successful modern managers have. Excellent man manager and motivator! I suppose we won’t know until given a chance, so will be a gamble. A bit like paul Clement and sammy lees of this world, great coach and assistant but will he have what it takes to be boss!?! If he gets it I really hope he does because as you’ve stated he’s got excellent credentials

You find someone with more passion and hunger than this man for this club currently. He’s clearly got the the respect from the players so it’s currently a no brainer for me! Pull your finger out WAQ FFS!! Happy new year gasheads see you all at the mem tomorrow

3 points, 2 goals and the second best defence in the division. Get in! Yet how much of a abuse do Lockyer and Craig get!?! Shows when strikers not putting the ball in the net, you’ll eventually concede and lose games. Board not backing DC in investing in a striker or just bad luck missing out on a few decent striking targets in the summer. Either way, need someone in on January 1st! Important 3pts tonight UTG

Nichols must have a clause in his contract that says 'if fit, he plays'. It's quite possible seeing how hard DC worked to sign him. I’m pretty sure that it was Marcus Stewart that gave the thumbs up to sign him as he worked with him at Exeter.

Real lack of quality all over the pitch, bar Bonham and the Jak when he came on. If the Jak doesn’t start on Saturday I’ll be shocked! He actually got his body between the defender and ball on the 3 occasions he actually made a bad pass into something decent. Considering we are supposed to be strong in the middle of midfield, they all looked shot tonight. They only real positive is that we have a team of try-ers but no one with star quality.
Kyle Bennett bottles out of 3 challenges tonight which is disgusting for any player playing at any level. I can accept players who don’t have the technical ability but not ones who don’t put in a shift and fight for the cause. Not acceptable at this club Bennett!!!! Chris ‘hollywood pass’ Lines, well, well, well. Awful in a deeper role, please don’t ask him to play in there again DC.
Oh well, an away point is and away point. On wards to saturday

so he had no club when we got him ? Bodin was a young, hungry & talented player who was injury prone. This guy is supposed to be in his prime but instead of being injury prone, can't get into a L2 team because he isn't good enough. This is only because Stevenage’s tunisian manager doesn’t rate him.....

Largely agree however, Jakubiak looked a bigger goal threat in the time he was on.

DC was told the club was up for sale. A big statement to make - why did Wael portray just the opposite in his interview? If true, I would not be surprised, I think the family are totally out of their depth and comfort zone. edit: semantics maybe - you say "was" up for sale - not "is" up for for sale? I think Wael was asked if they were committed to the club, and of course they are going to say yes and would be crazy to say ‘no we’re not and are trying to sell the bloody thing!’

Craig is an excellent player, barks orders and his block before our second goal was brave and timed to perfection. Both him and Lockyer read the game better than any other lump of a centre back. They both try and anticipate the ball in but as posted by many sadly we are getting done by crosses and lack of height. Defending is a whole team issue not just the centre half’s. Again, sadly league 1 gks are playing league 1 because they just struggle to deal with crosses. Must stop the supply, but unless DC thinks Rollin is ready I really think we need a big lump on loan to mix things up.

Here lies the problem! If we don’t have a prolific scorer it puts pressure on the defence and they get all the blame.

No way to most of those! Including Matt Mills type players. My mates a Forest fan and he said that Mills is the worst defender he has seen and spends the whole time fouling and arguing with the referee, made a career out of being not very good.

Against Wigan, think Craig as a defensive left back might work well with Broadbent and Lockyer as cbs.
